  1. QUOTE (since56 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 06:35 AM) If you are going to bunt then make sure the guy bunting can bunt. Coaching some in this area might help. How about making sure the pitchers hold on base runners better? This can also be done with coaching. Hold the coaches involved responsible for preparing the players to execute. Coaching and preperation are not so good. How much of this is neglected in the minors? Executing fundamentals should exist before coming to the majors. I think it's evident that this was never a priority to Kenny. The minors could use some overhaul. That is Kenny's responsibility.
  2. So how did De Aza do today?
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 10:42 PM) That seems a little harsh doesn't it? Unless he's a Yankee fan that finally came out of the closet.
  4. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 11:52 AM) Hawk is a polarizing figure to be sure. There's boatloads to criticize, with umpiring complaints at the top of the list for me. However, if you have the Extra Innings package or you're a frequent traveller to other MLB towns, you may realize that he's rather good at his job from an entertainment standpoint. There's SO much blandness out there it's numbing. That was real evident in the 2005 post season. After that I didn't know how terrible Chris Berman is. Outside of making up silly names, there is nothing to him at all.
  5. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 02:33 PM) Talent from a losing organization is actually a great deal to make. We dealt for mediocrity from a losing organization, therein lies the problem. Turns out he wasn't even mediocre, he was just plain bad. Not for this organization. They tend to hold on to them much longer to do more damage. Then you get mental midgets who can't react to pressure because they really nothing to play for after ASB.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 07:02 AM) I'm sure he would like something, but I also think he would be thrilled to be rid of him for no cost too. If by some chance LaRussa is manager, Kenny will miss Ozzie. There will be more friction between KW &TL. Be careful for what you wish for.
  7. QUOTE (Anderson Cooper's Quivering @ Jul 29, 2011 -> 10:15 AM) The whitesox are a bunch of racists. Ignore the latin manager, black GM and jewish owner. Post of the week. So when will it be convenient in Amerika for the single hetero Caucasian to file discrimination suits?
  8. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) LOL. Anyway, I love this thread. I have nothing personally against Teahen, I just couldn't stand him as a player. I don't know what they saw in him at all, except that he bats lefty. It was a way of dumping Josh Fields except they got a higher priced version of Josh Fields instead. This is another reason why this organization needs a new GM.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:57 PM) Uh, they could have called up Viciedo before we lost 3 of 4 to Minnie and got faceplaned 4 of 6 to KC. but nooooooo we couldn't do that and try to improve the offense. What a failure of a GM we have. They still may have lost those games. Someone steps in to wet the bed. They've had a habit of getting owned by those 2 teams after the ASB, it also happened under Manuel.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:07 PM) It's general because it doesn't need to be specific. Ozzie makes blatant managerial errors on pretty much an everyday basis, and they're obvious for all to see. If you think he's as good an in-game manager as anybody, I mean you have the right to think that but I'm not sure how you could possibly come to that conclusion. It doesn't really matter what we think. It's who ever is willing to pay him. He's definitely cut out for managing in the NL.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:19 PM) The Cardinals are doing a lot of things that make me think they think there's a very real chance Albert leaves. Either way, I'd be pretty surprised if La Russa is there in 2012. He might move up in their front office. Just think Sox fans could get their wish of Walker being gone only to be replace by McGuire. People will wonder why Lillibridge is on pace for a 25 HR season playing part time. Mark will introduce the team to those same skills that made he, SamMe and Barry famous.
  12. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 11:34 AM) Bad trades and/or putting a team togeher is more an indictment of Kenny Williams then Ozzie Guillen. But, I would not be surprised at all if Ozzie does leave for the Miami Marlins next season. Phil Rogers blurbs that maybe Tony Larussa will be welcomes back to Chicago in 2012? But, you know what say what you will about Guillen we have an under producing team this season and he is still within 3 1/2 games of the top. I have often wondered about the aggressiveness of the Sox to pull off deals and use our farm system as the feeder for other teams. We have given up some pretty decent youngsters. Yes we won in 2005 but memories run short in baseball. If Ozzie and Kenny are both here in 2012 I have no problem with that either. I just hope for a better producing club He'd cost a lot more than Ozzie. I do wonder what the St. Lous fans feel about LaRussa. Sometimes guys like that don't know when to retire. It's just Phil being Phil of s***. He should be a low paid yahoo blogger. I enjoy reading the comments to his columns. The Cards wanted Sale for Rasmus. They didn't want to take on Thornton's salary for next year. It will be interesting how much Pujols will make next year?
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) They need to get healthy and find some pitching quick. I think the wheels are finally coming off that wagon. They only thing that would help them if they got to face the Sox another 40 games.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) That's all right Rudy will fix him! Funny how I see both Chicago team mirror each other in hitting. Poor plate discipline and they all shut down at once. At least the Cubs tried a new but highly though of hitting coach to produce the same results. I always thought if the Sox had Big Z, he could be used as a pinch hitter. He likes to work on his hitting. Maybe they need that kind of inspiration.,

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 04:31 PM) The HOF has made judgments just like that where players careers have been ended very early. I could see Frank being a guy to do it for sure. He was one of the best players in the game during his time. Longevity should not be a major factor, but then again most of them had careers over 12 years. Outside of a pitcher I don't think the Hall should have one dimensional players like DH. Frank wasn't that bad of a 1st baseman. He was better than Lamar Johnson. If Frank left the planet before he became a DH, he would have a good shot. It will be interesting if Munson gets in. I just can't stand the DH. Back in the 80's guys like Eddie Murray would go have a 2nd career in the NL. Now the NL players instead of retiring can swing a bat in the AL and get paid well.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:31 PM) Well, is the 12 inch sub cheaper than getting two 6 inch subs? It is as Subway. People use to do that all of the time when Subway had all regular subs for $5.
  17. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) Since things have gotten really funny in here...I figured I'd pass on a little story you guys may like. I just had to post it somewhere: I was at Sheetz (gas station/store) earlier today getting some lunch...And there was some guy there ordering a sub/s. They had big signs showing different types of 6 inch subs and 12 inch subs. I'm standing there and the guy asks the cook/server could he get a 12 inch sub and make each half different. I nearly asked for his autograph. Huh?
  18. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 03:22 PM) Very toolsy, but a longish swing that may never hit for a high average in the majors. I'm well aware he's not a finished product. Sounds like the perfect White Sox.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 02:10 PM) Kenny's going to lose a lot of cred if he starts trying to dangle Adam Dunn. However, MLBTradeRumors is complete trash. You have to realize there probably isn't one MLB not on the trading block. It doesn't reflect well on an organization to give up on a big money FA who hasn't finished a full season here. Maybe Rios can be traded depending on how much the Sox wll take on his salary. Maybe 80%?
  20. QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 10:29 AM) From the sounds of it, the Phils know they have a 2-3 year window to win. Whether that means they'd do a Brown for Quentin deal, who knows. If I were the Sox, I'd do it. http://www.csnphilly.com/07/27/11/Phillies...&feedID=704 So if they need a hitter why are they possibly willing to deal Brown?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 11:43 AM) When did Pete Rose DH? Frank Thomas's career was probably extended by the better part of a decade thanks to the DH. I'd say there's a good shot he would not be a hall of famer without it. If that's all he was, I wouldn't put him in the Hall. You never know, he might not make it if he is recognized as a DH.
  22. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 12:00 PM) McDougal's who I was thinking of, and while he had a good first season, his remaining ones with us were horror movies. When he'd come out of the bullpen, I'd hide under the bed. At some point getting talent from losing organizations isn't exactly a good idea.
  23. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 11:30 AM) http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/tra...franch_ID_2=KCR Bannister for Hibbard and Melido didn't suck. That's also when the Royals didn't suck.
  24. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 01:43 PM) Out. The GM has no clue on how to trade. Or run a farm system. Fans always complain, "why don't they teach these guys the fundamental?" I think that is the least concern of KW. The organization may reflect that. If there are negative patterns emerging in the minors than he needs to hold the instruction and scouting more accountable.
  25. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,6523878.story Sports journalism is getting as bad a political journalism. A lot of people in front offices were asking why the Sox didn't simply use Jackson as a chip to get Colby Rasmus from the Cardinals But what if Jerry Reinsdorf has a good idea that Ozzie Guillen is going to the Marlins after the season, with La Russa leaving St. Louis to replace him? A guy who wants to cut payroll is going to fork out more money on a manager?
