  1. Rick Hahn NOT making any trades doesn't mean he did nothing at the deadline. He has 5 or 6 players he realistically could trade. If the return isn't fair, why make a trade for the sake of making a trade. Sox fans: "...for the sake of Pete! Trade somebody! Anybody!"
  2. I hope the Oakland A's win the World Series so all the 50 year old grumps on WSI will STFU and GTFO about how Billy Beane and his spreadsheets can't win a post season series.
  3. Ok, I'll bite... Yes, the Sox will make 3 trades. John Danks to the Yankees for JR Murphy and Angel Rincon. Dayan Viciedo to the Mariners for Brandon Maurer. Gordon Beckham to the Giants for Barry Bonds' O-ring bat weight from the 1998 allstar game.
  4. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 30, 2014 -> 03:56 PM) $12-14 AAV is pretty standard fair for a #4 these days. It shouldn't be, but there are a lot of teams paying crummy #4 pitchers quite a bit. Sup, Dawg?
  5. Comparing Abreu to Cabrera is apples to oranges. Cabrera actually has lineup protection behind him.
  6. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 05:59 PM) Dan Hayes ‏@DanHayesCSN 5m Hasn't been much chatter about #WhiteSox leading up to deadline. Not many scouts here. One said: "It feels like I'm the only one here." maybe MLB scouts avoid Detroit like the rest of civilized humanity does.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 10:05 PM) They're looking at Aaron Hill or Chase Utley, if they can pry him away from the Phillies. Chase Utley has 10/5 rights.
  8. "Gordon Beckham is the missing piece to our championship team" - said no MLB GM, ever.
  9. Is it just me or has this been the most boring lead-up to a deadline, like... omg... EVA! Seriously though, there has been so little legitimate info, league-wide, not just the Sox. The only stories are seemingly what writers can piece together based on deductive reasoning. A typical tweet from Rosenthal leading up to this years trade deadline:
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 08:52 AM) Maybe get a firehose and spray him down when he chases a slider two feet out of the zone? Who wants a drink from the firehose?!?!?!?
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 08:54 AM) There's a reason we're proud of the fact that the White Sox had the most quality starts over a period covering much of the time Cooper has been here. Sure, worst-case scenario it's a 4.50 ERA for the game, but usually not. It's saying more often than not, a team with a good offense/bullpen has a chance to win the majority of his starts. Worth the money we're paying him? Probably not. Can we recover from trading him? Surely, just as easily as the Astros if they trade their top 3 (and Danks is really a 4th starter now, or a 3 on a bottom 1/3rd of the league team). A lot of GMs and managers would rather have 5 guys who are predictable than 5 guys who might put up zeros... or might go 2 innings and give up 7 runs. Its a lot easier to plan/build and offense and bullpen when you know exactly what your rotation is going to give you.
  12. Seems like there are two options for the Sox with Beckham: A - Give him away for virtually nothing (like the trades that send Thome to LA and Contreras to COL) so the team isn't on the hook for the remainder of his 2014 salary. B - Ride out the season and non-tender him. C - Profit.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 28, 2014 -> 10:16 AM) 18 ER, not 49. I had no idea why a 7.11 ERA seemed as though it was "not terrible." OMG I used his year ER instead ... #dumb
  14. we should add brooks.boyer@whitesox.com to the list.
  15. Looking at his statline for the last 10 starts... doesn't look all that great, but not terrible, either. 62 IP, 58 H, 15 BB, 1 HR, 49 ER, 33 K Regions Field suppresses power, so we'll see how he does in the more lively BB&T Park.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 27, 2014 -> 11:25 AM) I think Chris Sale is the best starter in baseball. He's dominating the AL. Say what?
  17. Robin Ventura is definitely the worst manager the Sox have right now.
  18. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 02:02 PM) I don't think it's confirmed, but it's heavily rumored. I think Bungie's comment was something like they don't want to make you grind for dozens of hours to get to the good stuff. It also sounds like it's a "soft cap" in that you can keep adding skills and grabbing more powerful loot. Sort of the old line "the game doesn't really start until you hit the level cap." Once again, that's not confirmed, just what I've read on some boards. Its probably a lot like CoD in that getting the max "level" rank isn't difficult, but unlocking the extras is. I got to level 60 on CoD in a few weeks of online game play, but its mighty difficult to unlock everything.... for example the sniper "outfit" requires 130 kills with a chrome barrel rifle.
  19. This explains why the hot stove has been so cold leading up to the deadline.
  20. You know what I love about Jose Abreu... When he goes in a slump... its for a 3-game series and not 70 games like the rest of the Sox.
  21. He's an exciting young player, who doesn't want to see him back?? Say wha'?
  22. Anyone interested in one of Wilkins' bombs from tonight: http://www.milb.com/multimedia/vpp.jsp?con...87&sid=milb I'm assuming they chose this one of the two he hit tonight since it went roughly 450 feet and almost left the stadium.
