QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 07:24 PM) I homebrew. Are you doing all grain? Jaysus, no! We're talking total beginner here. Just using the kit first time out, obviously not expecting any great results from that but just want to get used to the process. Once I get the first batch out of the way, I'd like to dabble in the realms of creativity a bit more. I fancy messing around with I.P.A.s as my first specialty.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 06:40 PM) That's why you can't have nice things. I'm imagining a giant hole where you threw someone through a wall. Is this the fella that said he was still able to handle his gargle??? Give us some damage reports, Rowan. We want details!

Any Soxtalk homebrewers out there? I've got the stuff together to do my first ever batch of homebrew. Just need to make the time to get it done.

Is there anything to be said for the fans taking the lead here? What I mean here is in terms of atmosphere. At the end of the day, the main reason people attend the stadium is to go and support their team. The other stuff is really just superfluous. Welcome additions, of course, but at the end of the day the main thing is to watch and get behind the team. Nothing creates a great experience (outwith the performance on the park) like an electric atmosphere created by the fans. Talking from my own experience, it is the supporters that largely shape the quality of 'experience'. A few years ago, the atmosphere in Celtic Park had become really really flat and quiet. The club tannoy played music at half-time and before games, sometimes there were live bands, and there was plenty of food on sale both inside and outside the park. Yet the place was like a library during games. A fans group took it upon themselves to gather in a section of the ground and create an atmosphere by singing throughout the games, whether we were winning or losing. It took a long time, but gradually the enthusiasm spread throughout the ground so that Celtic Park often sings en masse in support of the team. Here's a couple of examples: Just a couple of my thoughts. I think nothing would create a buzz, and also attract people sitting at home watching to get their arses down to the park, than some good old fashioned fan created atmosphere. I appreciate I'm coming from a totally different fan culture, so this might not be an easy starter. In that case, with a view to the future, you need to teach your kids to be like this young rocker : P.S. Apologies for my repeated profiling of Celtic in this post, but it's what I'm most familiar with in this regard.

2012-2013 Sox off season Catch-All thread

Need to find a way to get my baseball fix over here during the close-season. This forum will be my mainstay, do ESPN keep have a regular baseball programme during the close-season? -
Best of luck Reddy and any other Soxtalkers in the areas getting hit with this. Makes me realise the upside of living in a place where the biggest weather problem is year-round morbid grey cloudyness and lack of sun.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 29, 2012 -> 03:51 PM) what else is there to do during a hurricane? i don't drink, but it's gonna happen today/tomorrow! I suppose, if your missus hadn't dumped you, sex would be on the cards. Sure, drink and Soxtalk... What the hell else does a man need?!! (Notwithstanding several other, ahem, specialist internet sites) *whistle*

A good solid supply of Bulmers Irish Cider to keep me going from now until the end of the Giants/Tigers game.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 28, 2012 -> 09:28 PM) y'all wanna hear something crazy? She came over Friday evening... and left this morning. For good. We had a LOT of time to talk and cry and ... do other things. And she explained her point of view more thoroughly and where she's coming from, and I agreed with her. She said that prior to moving to NYC she went through a lot of personal crap. She used that as an impetus to take the leap and move all the way across the country on her own to New York. She says she in NO way regrets the relationship we had, but that jumping into it after only being here and on her own for a couple months meant that she didn't give herself the time she needed to learn who SHE was - what SHE wanted, etc. The whole reason she moved here is because she wanted to take her life by the horns and develop the personal strength to succeed in this business (acting) by jumping in feet first. Taste of my own medicine much? HAH! But yeah I became a security blanket, and in time, having that security led her to stop trying. After hearing all of it, I completely agree that she needs to do this. But at least now I also know that this isn't about ANYTHING being wrong in the relationship (how we feel about each other). Also, we got to end it on a really awesome note instead of the awful "out of the blue" note of last weekend. We had an amazing 36 hours together doing all sorts of things we both love, having fun together, and then today she had to go back to work. So it was most definitely the weirdest breakup i've ever gone through or heard of, but I'm glad it happened the way it did - and I feel infinitely better about it all. I sincerely hope she goes out and starts kicking ass again, because she's amazingly talented - she just needs to find her personal strength. Obviously I'll miss her, but if it's meant to be we'll find each other again, and if it's not, then we won't. But either way that means it was the right decision. How bizarre is all that? LOL FFS! You could've checked in over the weekend instead of keeping us waiting like this!!!!!

Went to see the new James Bond film with my good lady there tonight. Thought it was decent, they kept the plot very simple - enoyable and a good few laughs in it.

Well done so far, Giants. Ended up falling asleep on the couch last night and missed the whole game. Definitely need to stay awake tonight.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 11:26 PM) absolutely - all good advice - save the fat bird part... my ex is small skinny and hot. not sure i'd feel a whole lot better doing a fat chick.

Took advantage of my recent travels to stock up on a litre of Cointreau, a litre of Stroh rum, a litre of Havana Club, and two litres of Grand Marnier. Enjoying a few various glasses now.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 04:29 PM) Definitely, a lot less stress (the booze helps, definitely suggest hitting up a local liquor/grocery store for some drinks and snacks/meal before you board), and typically bigger seats. Bring a deck of cards, a book, and/or a tablet and jsut enjoy the ride/views. Cool. Train it is, so. Good that we have that all sorted out.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Oct 22, 2012 -> 04:33 PM) yeah that whole losing my willpower thing? happening in a big way. more time that passes, the less and less sense this all makes and the more i want to talk with her about it. this stuff is so dumb. she's probably not contacting me because i'm not contacting her and we both don't wanna be the first to break. why do we do s*** like that? lol people are stupid. I haven't read through all that's gone previously but, judging by your post above the one quoted, the breakup was her call - don't let the tears and declarations of love confuse this. Under no circumstances should you go trying to get in contact with her. It will only push her further away and convince her it was the right thing to do. If she's going to change her mind, she's going to do it without your contacting her. There's no guarantee she'll come back if you don't contact her, but I would almost guarantee she won't if you do. This is where your pals are very important - if your feeling low, turn to them rather than trying to get on to her. I'm not trying to come across as some sort of know-it-all here, just giving you my thoughts based on my own experiences. Now! Get out there, get drunk, and pump a fat bird.* You'll be brand new!!! *Doesn't have to be fat (could be a model) but, whoever it is, get them pumped!

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 26, 2012 -> 04:05 PM) Depends on where youre going in relation to the train station and airport. Sometimes between baggage checking, delays, and travel to/from airports it actually will be about the same amount of time as a train ride (minus the bonus views, and extra comfort). I remember Vienna's airport being fairly far away, about a 30 minute train ride (which by the way, you better have a ticket for, we were told by our hostel we bought the right ticket but turned out that was wrong and we each got charged about $100). So depending on Prague's airport access, I would suggest taking the train as it may be just a bit more time, but you'll end in a more central location. As I recall, Prague Airport is a bit out from the city centre too - maybe about €25/€30 in a taxi. The train could be a good shout - only a couple of hours time difference plus the benefit of seeing the countryside, being able to walk around, bring on some booze for the journey, etc...

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 04:31 PM) So I'm going out to London for work for a couple days in November (right after Thanksgiving) so I'm going to end up having my wife come out. I have points for hotels and thanksgiving week is one of the cheapest times to fly internationally. We've previously been to England, Ireland, and Paris/Champagne. Wanted to see if anyone had any good ideas for a good 7 night trip (whether it is 7 nights in Italy). Would want to limit it to about 3 cities, 4 at the most. Only saw this now. Come to Dublin for some Or make a quick trip up from London to Glasgow for a Celtic match - and

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Oct 15, 2012 -> 11:13 PM) Since every team I wanted to win lost in the Division Series, so now I'm just watching for drama. My uncle lives in Detroit and asked if I would drive to Detroit for a World Series game and purchase my ticket on one condition - I root for the Tigers at the game. I can't turn this opportunity down. Am I a bad White Sox fan? Yes! Yes you are. Glad to have been a help -

All New Soccer Thread ~ All Levels ~ All Leagues

Stopped into Barcelona on my way back from Africa for our Champions League game on Tuesday. Was amazing to see Celtic score there to take the lead - heartbreaking for us to concede the game winner in the 94th minute. A fantastic trip, , and I was very proud of Celtic. Everyone thought we were going to get pumped rotten beforehand, and we very nearly emerged with a point from the great Barca.
