  1. Alex Cora played his college ball at Miami... maybe that's where he learned it?
  2. Jack is one of my all-time favorite Sox players. I'm also a fan of his music (the two Stickfigure CDs I have are excellent). Given the fact that he never played for LaRussa, I can only assume that he heard it from a teammate. That being said, I'm not going to judge ANYBODY here until one of those teammates confirms Jack's allegations. I'm really starting to wonder how many teams do this. IIRC, the Indians got caught using a camera to steal signs back around 2000... IIRC, Mike Sirotka is the one who called them on it.
  3. I'm willing to see what Ricky can do with a MLB caliber roster, although the bullpen still needs help. Look at Jim Fregosi. He was awful when he was here (during a rebuild). Five years after the Sox canned him, he had the Phillies in the World Series. I remember when the Sox drafted AJ Hinch out of high school in 1991 (he didn't sign).
  4. I agree with him. IIRC, in Lip's interview with Mike Veeck on WSI, he said that it could've been fixed for a modest sum of money. Historic preservation wasn't very common in the 80s and 90s. Had today's attitudes existed back then, old Comiskey and Tiger Stadium would still be in use today.
  5. I was screwing around on YouTube the other night when I found this video (presumably from the early 80s) that I'm sure some here would enjoy watching. Hard to believe that old Comiskey has been gone for almost 30 years. Jean Shepherd's America - Chicago (White Sox) Notice how parking cost a whopping FIVE BUCKS. 🤣
  6. Goodbye `27 Yankees, hello `23 White Sox. 😎 The 2010s was arguably the worst decade in White Sox history, hopefully the 2020s will be one of the best. I was just looking at my 2020 White Sox wall calendar that features one player each month. Two of the players featured (Robert and Madrigal) haven't played an inning of MLB yet.
  7. I believe the Sox were the overall winningest team in the American League in the 90s... a lot of 2nd place finishes, but only one playoff appearance. That's been the MO of this team for a long time... good but not quite good enough.
  8. Those two were hilarious together. Some of the most fun radio I've ever heard on The SCORE. I think it was just a one time thing. I've been really enjoying some of these holiday pairings. Spiegel and Boers were simply awesome together, and Boers and Shepkowski were very good as well.
  9. IIRC, Ozzie wanted out. He and Kenny weren't getting along very well at the end.
  10. Jerry, Kenny, and Rick should all be aware of one fact about Sox fans... "If you win... they will come"
  11. Sports radio has been a pleasant listen these past few days. For the past 5+ years, it's been all Cub love and almost all Sox hate. Today it did a complete 180. They're actually starting to criticize Saint Theo!
  12. Don't know if Stoney has any inside information here, but he makes a good point... https://twitter.com/stevestone/status/1202423326699749376
  13. I'm fine with this signing.... a veteran arm who will hopefully eat up innings and provide leadership and depth. His career has now gone full circle.
  14. To quote Jurko on ESPN 1000... "Twitter: Where idiots go to play"
  15. Believe me, it's worse than you think. The medical profession completely destroyed my life. All many doctors and hospitals care about is the almighty dollar (a few doctors have told me that). "But you can't reverse a surgery" Truer words have never been spoken. I speak from experience... on MULTIPLE occasions. We discussed the "concurrent surgeries" issue here when this story first went down. His experience with the Percoset and Ambien is frightening but not surprising. Remember, the EXACT same thing (DUI) happened to Tiger Woods. The part about him stabbing his TV and whatnot is the reason why whenever there's a mass shooting or other similar event, the first question I ask myself is "I wonder what kind of "meds" he/she is on?" Thanks for posting this, and thank you Bobby for writing it
  16. A great defensive catcher for sure, but I just can't get all that excited over a career .241 hitter. Besides, this team won't do a damn thing without at least a competent rotation.
  17. Giolito is one of six finalists. That video of every one of his strikeouts this season is awesome! 2019 Comeback Player of the Year
  18. I expected Yolmer, but Lucas was a bit of a surprise. 2019 Gold Glove Finalists
  19. That team had holes in it that the front office did NOTHING to fix over last offseason. Maddon isn't solely responsible for 2019, but he's far from blameless in it. I've long felt that he is the most overrated manager in baseball.
  20. I hear the Angels plan to "spend big" to fix their problems. Well, the Angels spent a gargantuan amount of money on an aging Albert Pujols, and they broke the bank for Mike Trout... how much "bigger" do they expect to spend? Putting all your eggs in one basket and signing one big name free agent is dumb... you don't win by doing that. In baseball, one player isn't going to change your fortunes. The Twins did it right. Once that Mauer contract came off the books, they took that money and brought in several players who turned them into a playoff team. The Nationals said goodbye to Bryce Harper and hello to the World Series. Coincidence? Maybe yes, maybe no.
  21. That's not the issue with him. He has great stuff, but poor control.
  22. A knock on Maddon is that his clubhouse is TOO relaxed. I'm not saying he needs to be a Billy Martin/Bobby Valentine type who screams at everybody all the time, but sometimes some players need a kick in the pants. Kaplan was saying the other day that Doug Glanville interviewed for the Rays job after Maddon left, and the interviewer told him "things are WAAAAAY too loose around here."
