  1. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 3, 2011 -> 12:06 PM) Some things crossed my mind when reading the story: (1) I saw Kenny Williams play in his only good hitting year (1987) and I don't think he has anything to tell the hitting coach on how to do his job better. But, he is the GM (2) Walker says to keep what happened in the locker room and that is a good way to make sure the fans might never really know what took place here and I for one would like to know what really ignited this issue (3) Going back to KW being the GM and supposedly having authority over the manager and coaches and seeing Jerry intervene makes you wonder about the status of everyone next year (4) Jerry is the owner and the boss and aybe is the cooler head in the case. If changes will be made they wilol be made after the season is over and my guess he will be making them for sure. As Walker said though this has been a very frustrating year Walker is also looking out for his future. He can't be spilling secrets and then expect another team to bring him on board. Even though the extent of his future in professional baseball should be nothing more than a base-coach, who knows what JR has lined up for him.
  2. I'm actually enjoying all this bickering between everyone in the organization. If I could, I would instigate it further. If it wasn't for any of this I wouldn't be paying attention to this heaping pile of filth on the field.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 12:45 PM) I don't really have a beef with Ozzie for playing them...it's in our best interests to try and get these guys going again since we have them signed long-term. What I do have an issue with is his insistence on batting them in critical positions in the batting order. This only works to exacerbate the problem more. Hard to defend hitting Dunn and Rios anywhere but in the bottom third of the order, even when we're already running Beckham and Morel out there. It's in our best interests to win baseball games, and continuing to play Dunn and Rios anywhere in the lineup with any consistency doesn't help us achieve that.
  4. QUOTE (Papa Tru @ Aug 27, 2011 -> 11:06 PM) I cant wait for them to trade Danks, they couldnt possibly f*** that up I'm basically setting the expectations upon our GM to deliver a franchise changing deal involving atleast two blue chip prospects (does not include a RP or 4thOF) from any trade involving Danks. It's necessary for our improvement. And they damn well better produce.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 26, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) Say hello to the Pierre Rios De Aza outfield. I mean, were in the pennant race! Viciedo will have to rake whenever he's in the lineup to find consistent playing time, and even then, I expect a few of those "Viciedo has been on fire these last three games, why is he sitting?" posts.
  6. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 03:28 PM) Give them Mitchell. Nah, Mitchell is more valuable to us as a future September callup/pinch runner/embodiment of the system's failures.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 25, 2011 -> 09:08 AM) I have posted a Drive trailer in the past, this is the newly released international trailer. I have really come to appreciate Gosling. He could have easily fallen into the Rom-Com group and increased his exposure, but he has been pretty selective in his choices. I like pretty much all of his work I haven't much of his work, but I've seen Stay and he was phenomenal in that. He fits well into soft spoken character roles.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) Missed it, good defense? Great jump on a shallow fly ball to CF for the diving catch.
  9. This is what it looks like when Rios cares, I guess.
  10. Beckham just doing his thang, finding fastballs impossible to catch up to and yet again embarrassing himself.
  11. Lillibridge obviously looking for an offspeed pitch, because Holland threw all his fastballs right down the plate.
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 12:11 PM) And you know this how? Walker only wants to work for the White Sox. So many people think saying something to someone and throwing pixie dust into the air will make anyone a .330 hitter with 40 home run potential. Beckham is struggling right now. Its not uncommon in young players. Heyward is struggling. Morrision was sent to the minors under the guise he was struggling. BJ Upton has struggled. Delmon Young has been pretty bad. More struggle than do not. It sometimes takes a while. You can pick any hitting coach out there and someone is struggling under their "watch". Anyone who has ever played should know you can know exactly what you are doing wrong and exactly what needs to be done to correct it, but it still takes a while. You have to have it built in. If you go up to the plate thinking about 100 things, you are screwed. As for Beckham's swing. Let me get this straight, the Sox draft Beckham, he goes to the minor leagues and Walker calls up and tells him he needs to change his swing? Is that how this went? Please give me what you're smoking. As Ozzie said, the minor leagues are for instruction. In the majors is tweaks. If you have no idea how to hit when you get to the major leagues, again, you're screwed. I now want Walker fired for no other reason than to see your reaction. And if the major leagues is only for tweaking hitters, Walker has failed at that too. Time for him to do whatever he does in the postseason permanently.
  13. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 09:37 AM) Im at a loss. This team is a tease. There will be no good opening thoughts on this thread anyways, sooo f*** it. Go White Sox. Try and Win. meh Be prepared for another tease. I won't fall for it, but it's predictable -- by September 5th (immediately after a three game series against the Tigers) they'll be within 2 games. September isn't quite September without the White Sox falling apart at the hands of the Twins, and since the four game series will matter (unlike the one earlier in the month) they'll crap themselves.
  14. QUOTE (SI1020 @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 02:00 PM) Here is a scouting report from 2009 that praises his swing. Beckham scouting report I stand by my original post. His swing has gone to hell. After the draft, I recall a website posting a video comparison of Gordan Beckham's swing to that of...........Alex Rodriguez. They were nearly identical. There was no excessive looping action. I honestly believe it was a case of scouting reports identifying a weakness, and Walker/Beckham completely overhauling his swing to accommodate that weakness; which only spiraled out of control.
  15. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 05:13 PM) Take this for what it is worth. Spoke with my guy on 35th today. This is the only scenario he knows that has been discussed. 1.) Guillen/Cooper out (presumably will go to Florida) 2.) Williams moved up or moved out. 3.) Hahn new GM. 4.) La Russa/Duncan hired. La Russa/Duncan hire would mean no rebuild. Under this scenario, I couldn't be happier to miss the playoffs. Even if it means the loss of Cooper.
  16. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 10, 2011 -> 02:32 PM) That's probably my third favorite. "See you in hell, CANDY BOYS!" News reporter: Homer sleeps with sheet that he believes gives him sexual powers! Homer: Aw, that's the half truth!
  17. Simpsons travel to Australia because of Bart's lost distance, phone-call shenanigans The short stories episode (Smithers stung by bee, Tall man chases Nelson for laughing at him, etc.) Jay Sherman visits The Simpsons for their Springfield Film Festival
  18. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 02:55 PM) OK then. What's worse than benching Quentin for Rios is hitting him 5th, right behind Dunn. Why yes, let's have quite possibly the two worst offensive players in baseball bat back-to-back. Edit: WAR says that Dunn and Rios are actually the two worst players in baseball. Incredible. If I'm Pavano, Konerko doesn't see one hittable pitch tonight.
  19. QUOTE (MAX @ Aug 6, 2011 -> 03:02 PM) I'm not going to address all of the fallacies here. I simply don't want to spend my time doing it right now. I'm going out. Anyway, it wouldn't take the sharpest mind in the world to come up with a counter argument for each of these, and bring up positive points that you had not mentioned. Hell, you could probably even do it. More important to my point is what I said in #36. Its a philosophical position I've taken, and there are no right answers. That is just my opinion. Have a lovely day. You shouldn't be allowed to post again until you address every one of Caufield's points. When you call out people to present counter arguments to your position, and someone does exactly, it's just cowardly of you to call them "fallacies" as you slowly back away from the computer. Also, deciding whether or not to sell is not something of a philosophical question. Quit making it out to be more than it is. Either you believe the team is in it or not -- there's definitely a right and wrong answer, as we've seen this last week.
  20. Lineup: Pierre, Ramirez, Konerko, Dunn, Quentin, Pierzynski, Beckham, De Aza, Morel
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 03:24 PM) Jon has updated the spacing in the article as well as apologized via the Tweet. He also informed me that he would like to apologize to the members of the forum as well over the confusion. I give him credit, then. I don't believe many within the media feel the need to held accountable. And let's face it, we're a small minority of his readership; he could have easily brushed us off.
  22. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 02:50 PM) I often wonder how many people with different views just dont even bother to post because they dont want to deal with the mob. Great, yet another group of whiney Soxtalk members who can say the last couple years they've been discouraged from posting. I don't see J4L or Greg having a problem. Also, I'm rooting for the team to lose to hasten the firings of Guillen and Williams; I'd say that's a radically different view.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 4, 2011 -> 03:09 PM) That seems like a scary big risk to me. Yeah, we wouldn't without a clear cut replacement for him; but I could imagine a team figuring that for what his potential may be as a starter they could give us a few top prospects. It'd be a good bargain too if he amounts to anything in a rotation.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 3, 2011 -> 05:40 PM) There's a possibility they can still move Thornton this year. How many teams would claim someone owed that kind of money as a set-up guy, and at his age? I think not very many. You could argue more strongly that it might end up being the best time to have maximized Danks' value, based on his June/July numbers. And Quentin. Trade Santos? He's one of the biggest bargains on the team. We still don't even know for sure that Sale can make the transition to starting...to act like he has the value of Randy Johnson instead of Aaron Poreda/Royce Ring isn't accurate either. Does he have great stuff and multiple pitches? Yes. Does he have a very slight frame and/or mechanics that might not hold up? Possibly. Of course, the same concerns existed about Gio when he was drafted and he's turned out pretty good as a starter. I could see another team trading for Santos and developing him into a starter. He's a fresh arm with not a lot of tear; it's not unreasonable. If you have three potential plus pitches, you should be given the opportunity. I'd consider his delivery a lot cleaner than Sale's, who everyone here is (rightfully) yelling to be stretched out.
