Do you basically have to start from scratch after TJS? For example, if he had built up innings as a starter in the past, would it be easier for him to ramp up the innings post surgery than if he was a reliever with lower innings per year?

I can't help but think about all the players to Sox acquire that end up being dead money. It's typically barging bin contracts on washed up players. Going back to 2019 (because I'm lazy), here are contracts that were basically worthless. It may be unfair to include relievers (Herrera) and guys who just aged poorly, but I did. Is it normal for teams to have this much dead money?
