Machado signs with Padres 10/300
This dude has been parroting this same BS for weeks. Ignore him. He's a Yankee fan/homer that refuses to believe his beloved team won't spend the money to sign Manny. And for most of his life, he's been right. But everything points to that not being that case here, and the Sox aren't going to let the Yankees get Machado for anything less than $275M, IMO.

Joc Pederson: ???
I think the need they fit is cheap control. The Dodgers are going to have recurring luxury tax issues for the foreseeable future. Getting more major league ready talent to fill in the roster is probably important to them. I do agree that the rumored return makes a lot more sense for the Sox than the Dodgers, however. But I personally wouldn't give up much more than the rumored return if I were the Sox for a guy that isn't a very good CF, can't hit lefties, and has only two years of control.

They get twelve years of control of two major league ready relievers. Fulmer obviously has not been good the last couple years, but it would be far from surprising to see him be a very good major league reliever. It is in there somewhere. Bummer is meh, I agree, but he's cheap and he's serviceable. I agree now is the right time to trade Rivera from the Sox perspective, but he will all of 2019 as a 24 year old...coming off an .850 OPS season. He is a decent guy to take a chance on for LAD. Definitely one of the Sox top 25 or so prospects.

I highly doubt Hahn is sharing trade details with his sons. Way too much risk in today's day and age.

Two years of control. They just signed a player that displaces him unless they trade Verdugo. Dodgers aren't exactly in a position of leverage. Plus....Fulmer, Bummer and Laz isn't nothing. But I do find it at least mildly surprising a team like the Indians wouldn't beat that.

Joc Pederson: ???
I mean...technically it hasn't. At least a few people have said Fulmer/Bummer/3rd piece or Laz. Those names have been rumored for a few days now. But yah, no one super credible is saying that. Though raBBit seems to know more than he's shared, and seems awfully confident lately....which may or may not be related to Joc/Manny. Then you also have WSD emoji and Chili's comments...

Joc Pederson: ???
I have a hard time believing the sox are planning to "surprise" soxfest with a Joc Pederson trade. He is a nice piece of the puzzle if Machado is around, but not that exciting by himself. Saving a Machado announcement for Soxfest....now that I could understand.

Machado signs with Padres 10/300
To be fair, he was referring to the season. To paraphrase, he basically said..."we'll have a surprising season. Lots of surprise. Lots of surprises.".

Giant mess is a bit of overreaction. Jay can be released at minimal cost, and the Sox would definitely be able to trade Alonso.

Joc Pederson: ???
This is very important and way too often ignored here by the folks that look at things so black and white.

Joc Pederson: ???
Not quite. Pederson is due $5M in 2019. Pollock will be making $13-14M.

Acquiring Realmuto is going to cost them. Dodgers giving up Ruiz, Pederson and Urias for Realmuto and also landing Fry and maybe a guy like Flores/Lambert from the Sox as well doesn't seem so terribly lopsided.

I agree with your first paragraph. Your second takes is a bit far. There is some value to whatever Pederson provides in 2019, and certainly 2020. He is an enormous updates over Engel. I do agree that a big part of his value is showing MM you're serious about putting a decent team together for him in 2019. I do think adding Pederson, Machado and a decent 5th starter gives this team at least a punchers chance in easily the worst division in baseball. That is worth something. But, I do agree that it is not worth trading Rutherford, even if you're not in love with him. I would, however, trade Rutherford for a controllable SP - hence my suggestion of somehow getting Urias back in this proposed 3 way.
