2018 White Sox catch-all thread
Hah. Good for Gordon. He's actually been pretty good with the bat in AAA so far this season.

It's time to talk about the Sox young pitching
Between Rodon, Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer, Hansen, Cease, Dunning, Adams, Clarkin, Stephens, Guerrero, Puckett, I am pretty certain they can find 5 very good rotation options. The ones that don't stick in the rotation join Burdi, Hamilton, Johnson, Vieria, Fry, and Bummer in the pen. There is a world of depth and talent there. I just listed 18 guys that the Sox control long term and are all legit major league prospects. The pitching is the least of my concerns.

Who will survive out of the Sox pen?
The Sox did not sign Soria

Race for the worst 2018 record (Top 5 pick) again
The only guys I think we'll see out of that group are Kopech and Stephens. I'd personally put Stephens in the rotation soon. Rotation spots are going to be hard to come by next couple years and he's already 26. Let's see what he's got at the major league level.

Source: Rodon about to head out on Rehab assignment
I'd be for something like this. Carlos is going to be getting close to FA by the time the Sox are making things interesting. I used to think that was going to happen 2019, I now think its 2020, with an eye on being a really good team by 2021. Rodon is a FA after 2021.

Who will survive out of the Sox pen?
This. Those are the only 2 I see with potential to be in this pen in 2020. Maybe Rondon, but I doubt it.

5/9 1:10, Pirates vs White Sox
Dear lord. So ugly. I'd be happy to never see Engel again. Just sent him to AAA already. I don't even care who plays CF, whether its Leury or Trayce or Tilson or some waiver claim. Just don't want to see him anymore.

They will continue to allow him to pitch every 5th day and work though it. Not very complicated, and a luxury you have when you're not trying to compete. Engel and Giolito are in very different situations.

Reds trade for Harvey
There is zero doubt in my mind that lots of people on this board would have been and would continue to be freaking out about that kind of numbers from a top 10 prospect.

Reds trade for Harvey
Just so everyone knows, Fernando Tatis is currently hitting .219/.275/.453 in AA. He has 47/10 K-to-BB ratio. He is still hitting for power with 6 long ones. Certainly an aggressive assignment to AA for a 19 year old and his last 2 weeks have actually improved his numbersdrastically, but Sox fans would have been jumping off a cliff if Tatis was doing that in this organization. Tatis may end up being the real deal, and he no doubt would be a nice guy to have around, but this isn't some sure thing.

Reds trade for Harvey
Fair. I don't disagree.

Reds trade for Harvey
I am not necessarily campaigning for the Sox to pick up Harvey, but the above reason certainly shouldn't be a determining factor. This group may be tight-nit, but they also aren't very good at baseball. Harvey in his final year of control doesn't do much for me (if he was controlled beyond this year, it may be worth the minimal risk), but not taking a chance to improve the club because everyone likes eachother is no bueno. This year was never about competing, but I expected to at least be a halfways decent team (low to mid 70s wins). Some of these guys are going to need to learn to win at the major league level at some point. It looking like that won't be happening until 2019.

Generally, I agree. But if the guy is raking in the minors, you gain not pissing off your future cornerstone. We're not there yet - but its totally conceivable that he proves worthy of being in the big leagues well before next May. But again, if it were up to me, we wouldn't see him until late April / early May 2019.

Minaya 26th man, Covey to start game 2
Guessing a sox hoping to get 3 IP out of both Volstad and Santiago in game 2. Was kind of hoping to see Roach get a shot.

Yep, that is correct. Minor brain lapse.

I suspect we'll see Covey or Danish before Roach. Or, like you said, perhaps they keep Roach and send Infante back down.

Is he out of options? Wouldn't they need to expose him him to waivers to send him back down?
