QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Aug 10, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) lol, yeah, like anyone would have been super upset if something from that finale had been spoiled for them. I assume that youre joking but in all seriousness, I actually want to work in the field and with that studio (WB) in particular and if I do something like violate an NDA and they find out and my chances with working with them are over.

It feels good to talk about the season finale of True Detective, I saw it last week and signed a NDA.

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 7, 2015 -> 04:21 PM) The majority is too strong for me to even think about seeing F4. I need to check out The Gift. Reviews are through the roof. Edgerton is an underrated asset. But he did play an Egyptian.

2015 Films thread
I saw fantastic 4 last night and despite all the bad reviews the movie was actually quite entertaining. The first half hour of the movie is really good with how they introduce all the characters, but after that the movie falls off the rails. When you watch the movie and see all the continuity errors and the unwarranted tonal shift it's apparent that the movie was tampered with after Josh Trank turned in his cut. If Josh Trank had final cut, which I'm unaware of, he could sue Fox. There are tons of scenes missing and a lot of stuff from the trailers is not present in the film, like the chase scene with Reed in his car racing through the cornfield. I feel really bad for Josh Trank, I remember him talking about the movie soon after he was announced as the director and said that he wanted it to be like David Cronenberg body horror/Sci Fi films and that premise really excited me because the first 4 issues of the original book fit that description perfectly, where the characters are struggling to come to terms with their powers (I have a huge collection of FF comics, the John Byrne and Bryan Hitch stuff is really good). The first 30 minutes of the movie deliver that concept but it's not followed up. There was a lot of bad press surrounding this movie and I think that the vast majority of that was complete BS. I think that Fox is in such a panic to keep the rights that when Josh Trank turned in his sci-fi/body horror movie that Fox freaked out and tried to Frankenstein it into a conventional superhero movie. This movie had so much right going for it but Fox had to cut their nose to spite their face. If the rights do end up reverting back to Marvel, I hope they keep this cast and story going but that appears to be unlikely because the movie is tracking well.

Music and more Music
QUOTE (shipps @ Aug 6, 2015 -> 02:53 PM) That is really interesting. I would like to hear how it sounds. I am assuming there arent to many of these being sold in stores yet to hear it for myself. Its pretty recent, there was a Kickstarter maybe years ago and they raked in a lot of cash. Right now they're only on digital retailers but they been features at a lot of events like the Grammy's where they were included in the gifts bags the attendees receive. The last time I spoke to Jeff he said that he was considering talking with retailers

QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 5, 2015 -> 01:40 AM) I have to admit, I'm really lost as to what the hell is actually happening in TD this season. There's an article on Slate breaking all of it down and even that thing is too long to read. Read the followups on Polygon.com or the True Detective subreddit.

Dave Dombrowski hired by the Red Sox
I guess he was fired for not adding to the roster and going for it at the deadline, we all know that their owner is desperate for a championship. Dombrowski appears to be a victim of his owner's desperation.

Nick Hostetler Promoted to Director of Amateur Scouting
Hopefully this change will mean that Hostetler will bring some new scouts into the system. But we can see finally see Rick Hahn's FO take form, with Jeremy Haber, Marco Paddy (Yeah, I'm aware that Kenny hired him.) and Hostetler.

Nick Hostetler Promoted to Director of Amateur Scouting
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 09:45 AM) Why even keep him around? God forbid someone loses their job for the lack of success this franchise has had. Hostetler is pretty young at 37 and having a guy around that has had that position before and that has tons of experience in an advisory capacity is not a bad thing.

Nick Hostetler Promoted to Director of Amateur Scouting
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 09:21 AM) A source of guidance on how to scout s***ty ballplayers? On how to find the next Gordon Beckham? Or is that Kenny's job? He is only there as a source of information, Hostetler is in complete control of his department and his people. That means he doesn't have to take Laumann's advice, so chill out

Nick Hostetler Promoted to Director of Amateur Scouting
QUOTE (LDF @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 06:30 AM) the main philosophy is between college vs hs. kids. i think there has to be a happy medium between the 2. however the sox like college in the 1 round, b/c that person will be closest to the majors. i will admit high ceiling vs high floor, well, i guess i will need to really think out that difference in order to make any semblance of an informed answer. let me asked this of those who can answer. to me, i always assumed that the sox picked, esp in the 1 round, prospects who were easy to sign and can make the majors quickly, as oppose to players who were more talented. was that how any saw it??? I would say that if if were 2011 but the new CBA changed that and since the 2012 draft the Sox have been taking BPA, line you should no matter what.

Nick Hostetler Promoted to Director of Amateur Scouting
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 07:25 AM) I don't have as much of a problem with them promoting Hostetler. My issue is that Laumann was rewarded for his sub-par performance with a promotion up, just like Kenny Williams. White Sox Baseball: Loyalty without Accountability Laumann didn't get a promotion. He was stripped of his job and the power that came with it, he's just there to be a source of guidance for Hostetler and nothing more.

Nick Hostetler Promoted to Director of Amateur Scouting
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 4, 2015 -> 04:09 AM) There's only one problem with this...start drafting high schoolers in the first round and Sale/Abreu/Quintana/Eaton will all be long gone before they make it to the big leagues. Rare is the hs player like an A-Rod or Harper who doesn't need at least 2-3 years in the minors, if not 4-5. You always take the BPA no matter what, and he said that in the same interview.
