Detroit had a better total WAR from 1B than the Sox did. Tork >> Vaughn, period. NYY isn't looking at Vaughn and thinking he's an upgrade from Rizzo. Houston just lived through Pito cratering so they definitely are looking for better production than a no bat no glove 1B. The list of teams that would look at Andrew Vaughn and think he's an upgrade is very very short.

Accumulating all of that talent at once is the key. Some guys were traded for others, and some guys broke out elsewhere, etc. It's really a big picture indictment of how the Sox operate, and their failings as an organization.

And Bobby Witt would have developed like Vaughn did too...

Don't hold your breath. As much as this org is obsessed with being the Royals, KC can actually draft and develop. If the Sox can go from 121 losses to *only* 106 losses in 2025 I'd consider that a small miracle.

Of the 6 teams with worse WAR than the Sox at 1B in 2024, only 3 were more than .2 WAR worse. NYY, Hou, and the Reds. Even with Tork struggling, Det was better. Cincy and Miami *might* look at Vaughn and think he's an upgrade, but we are still talking about bottom of the barrel production at 1B.

Who the hell is going to pick up Andrew Vaughn and give him the starting 1B job? That's why he'd come back. He isn't worth half of what they paid him last year, let alone a jump to $6.4M. Its the cold reality of the business side of baseball, and a lesson young Andrew will soon learn.

Vaughn and Lopez should be the easiest non-tender decisions imaginable, but Getz will no doubt find a way to f*** this up.
