  1. Yes he did. He started wearing his batting helmet in the field and one time with his spikes wrote "boo" in the dirt around first base. And you are also correct about the assumptions from his family.
  2. From Paul Sullivan's Sunday column: Worst programming decision: How does CHSN virtually ignore Allen’s induction into the Hall of Fame? They had all year to put together a short documentary on the man who helped save the franchise from moving in 1972. It would’ve been great viewing before or after Sunday’s game. Someone dropped the ball.
  3. From Paul Sullivan's column Sunday night: Worst baserunning. Lenyn Sosa, take a bow. Sosa was thrown out at third Sunday after Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner baited him by letting an infield fly rule popup drop. Instead of staying put, Sosa gets nailed at third, squelching a potential rally. “Not a real good baserunning play by Sosa,” CHSN’s Steve Stone says in obvious disgust. “A little bit of a mental error there where he didn’t see the call being made,” Venable said, adding “we have to look ourselves in the mirror and figure out a better way to coach that.” Sosa might also need to look in a mirror.
  4. Good question. Fundamentals are an unknown word around the franchise.
  5. According to Dr. Fletcher from the Chicago Baseball Museum (Chili Dog M.V.P. book) these are the people connected to the White Sox who were there today, not counting former players enshrined in the Hall: Bruce Tanner, former Sox pitcher and son of Chuck Tanner, former Sox owner John Allyn's grandson Bryan, Nancy Faust and former Sox pitcher Tom Bradley. No one from the current Sox organization. I don't know if Goose Gossage was there or not.
  6. This video has both inside the park home runs and the famous Chili Dog home run:
  7. Much like Venable’s predecessor, Pedro Grifol, was brought in as part of an effort to clean up fundamental mistakes, part of Venable’s role in the Sox’ latest rebuild is to lead a staff capable of minimizing days like Sunday. “Those are things that we’re always working on. We’re always trying to figure out how to coach those things better,” Venable said. “The infield-fly rule, that’s something that we’ve been proactive about and talking about, and we still didn’t get it right. “We have to look ourselves in the mirror and figure out a better way to coach that. Certainly, we’re going to readjust, and as we continue to make mistakes, it’s on us to figure out how to get it right.” https://chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/2025/07/27/white-sox-cubs-crosstown-series-rebuild-andrew-benintendi-lenyn-sosa-colson-montgomery-will-venable-errors
  8. July 31, 1972 – It was another baseball rarity. Dick Allen’s magical season continued with two inside the park home runs in a single game. That tied the Major League record. It happened in Minnesota at old Metropolitan Stadium as the Sox beat Bert Blyleven 8-1. Bobby Darwin was the Twins center fielder who misplayed both of Allen’s drives. He slipped on the first one which saw the ball bounce completely over his head in right center, then on the second one he mistimed his dive in left center and the ball got by him and rolled all the way to the wall. Allen was credited with five RBI’s on the day. It started a stretch that saw the Sox win 14 of the next 17 games.
  9. Watched the tape of the ceremony this afternoon and while I'm very, very happy Dick finally got his due as Dr. Fletcher, myself and others worked very hard to see it happen I was disappointed the White Sox were basically ignored in it. It was Philly, Philly, Philly even though he won the MVP award with the Sox and helped save the franchise. Mike Schmidt talked about Dick in the feature but no White Sox teammate was interviewed and guys like Jim Kaat were actually there. I also didn't see any Sox fans decked out in any gear in the audience when they were showing wide shots. Maybe they were there and I just didn't see them. Anyway I hope Dick somehow, someway knows he finally made it.
  10. Cubs have now won 10 of the last 11 meetings. Never though I'd live to see that. Organization should be embarrassed (but they probably aren't)
  11. Unfortunately he's not wearing a Sox hat even though in his last interview he told Paul Sullivan of the Tribune that is what he wanted.
  12. And JR thanks you for your patronage 😉!
  13. EXACTLY correct, instead of letting guys settle in and master a position they move them all over the place with predictable results.
  14. Their defense overall has been as bad as in recent years past. Every year in the spring they talk about how they are going to work on it, emphasize it and yet nothing ever seems to change.
  15. This is what I was told started to poison the waters between Jason and Brooks: “Jason Benetti’s deal with the Sox is up, the Sox hold the option for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He went to Fox to negotiate that deal with them after he was told to do it and then come back to the Sox and they’d work something out. Jason wanted to get the deal done with the Sox first and then go to Fox or ESPN or whoever. Turns out when he came back to the Sox and said that he needs 40 days off so he can do the Fox work he was told, ‘no, that’s not happening.’ So I don’t know what’s going to happen to him or Steve Stone.”
  16. True. JR did not care for him.
  17. https://awfulannouncing.com/mlb/detroit-radio-host-comedy-act-tigers-jason-benetti-andy-dirks.html Jason just signed on to do play by play for the Lions pre season games.
  18. Rockies have won 6 of the last 11. I don't think they are going to break the Sox embarrassing record from last year unfortunately.

  22. Always fun to beat the Cubs. Wish Wilson had pitched better though, his ERA has shot up the last few weeks, was hoping he may get traded for a prospect.
  23. If JR is still running the show this is certainly possible when Naylor is over the hill and willing to work cheap.
  24. In head to head meetings between Billy and Whitey, Pierce came out on top 8-6 for what that is worth.
