  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 06:51 PM) If somehow Micah and Anderson were both positive offensive contributors by 2017, that could offset 3b and maybe even allow Sanchez/Saladino to hold it down effectively, esp. if Saladino can find a way to grow as a big league hitter given the start he's on...but the only way we're going to have confidence in any of that is to slow down and play the guys we have for a season to see what they can turn into. That said...would continue looking for candidates at those slots in trades as well. And it still leaves us a glaring lack of power, as well as major potential gaps in the corner OF. Woulda been really nice to have Semien in this mix as well. Hell, with Abreu's season, woulda been nice to have Ravelo as a 2016 candidate arrival as well (even though he's also been hurt this year). Anderson ( at SS) and Micah( at 2B) are both at this stage very questionable defensively. Now maybe Anderson can play 2nd but I doubt they will ever be the Sox doublplay combination. Maybe the defensive light goes on for both guys but hopefully one can play average defense at 2nd since I think both can hit at ML level.
  2. QUOTE (Sox Fan In Husker Land @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 05:10 PM) In 2017 we could have an entire rotation 28 or younger and under team control through 2019. Chris Sale 28, $12 million. Under control through 2019. Jose Quintana 28, $7 million. Under control through 2020. Carlos Rodon 24, $660 K?. Under control through 2021. Erik Johnson 27 $660 K? Under control through 2020. Carson Fulmer 23 $660 K? Under control through 2022. In 2017 the bullpen could also still consist of Robertson, Duke, Nate Jones, Putnam, Petricka, Jennings, Webb, Montas, Danish and any others we chose to add. Pitching appears to be in good shape for the future. There is no need for Jeff Samardzija in the rotation costing $12 mill + a year. There will also be no more $15.75 mill from John Danks in there. We need to trade Samardzija (not for scraps but something or take the comp pick) and give Johnson and Rodon chances to grow the rest of this season and next so we can see what we have for the next couple of years. If they can't handle it we need to look for another solution in the rotation. How will the offense look???? If you don't trade pitching, other than Shark, how are you filling the numerous holes offensively and defensively.
  3. QUOTE (staxx @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 11:39 AM) I think with Shark the sox would be smart to be the ones to strike first. But it takes 2 teams. Maybe Hahn wants to trade today, but he needs a buyer to be willing to trade now instead of waiting closer to the deadline
  4. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 22, 2015 -> 09:59 AM) Simple question, would you trust two of Saladino/Sanchez/Johnson to plug up 2B/SS for the forsee able future? Im leaning closer and closer to yes. I have little doubt Johnsons bat will be able to play. That's weird saying, I haven't thought that about a Sox MILB guy in forever. His defense needs to come along, but I think it will. So hopefully one of Saladino and Sanchez pan out to something decent. The other could hopefully make for a utility man. I still have faith in Sanchez. His glove is that good where his bat won't have to do too much more, if we can plug up a few other positions offensively. It seems like most posters on this site thought Johnson was terrible at 2nd. The FO obviously thought the same since they quickly sent him back to AAA. So his defense needs more than "coming along" . He may never be an average 2B if he is as bad as many are saying. So his future could be determined somewhat by the pieces around him. We know IB is not the greatest and we all want Alexei replaced and RF is also a problem. So Johnson's bat would be a needed addition but his glove may be a bigger problem.
  5. I think it is safe to say, after an Angel sweep, Boston will now be a seller. Porcello could be a new SP added to the available pool
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 12:27 PM) Alexei Ramirez is as good as any other FA option, which should tell you a lot. Hell, I'm not sure I'd be all that mad about picking him up for $5 million as a 1-year stopgap. Alexei, Cabrera, Stephen Drew, JRoll, and a couple of utility guys. He is the 8th highest paid SS in baseball and this year is one of the worst overall. I wouldn't offer more than $3 Mil and if he refuses worse case pick up someone who can defend. Next year is another rebuild in the 3 year plan so you monitor Anderson and determine his future and the see who you can get in 2016.
  7. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 08:14 PM) Thanks! Good read. Exciting that we can flip him for more than we gave up to get him. Agree good read. I think he over-values a 2 month renta. The Blue Jay trade has them giving their #2 , 9 and 10th prospects. If Toronto could sign Shark i would agree that sounds realistic. My prediction is some team's 3-5 and 15-20 and I assume that is a team with a good group of prospects like Toronto.
  8. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:32 PM) It ain't ovah till it's ovah. But, a fat lady sighting has been reported. Sell her too
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 03:27 PM) sell sell sell sell sell sell sell sell sell sell sell sell No keep Sale.......................................
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 12:27 AM) I just don't understand the rush on this board to trade Quintana for far less than he's worth. Who wants to sell Q for "far less than he's worth" I definitely think they should trade him but they need to get 2 starters + prospect( s) in return. Also one needs to be a C, SS or CF ( what I consider prime positions). If you can't get that you don't trade him.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 07:29 PM) Drat. Really really surprised Tyler wasn't bunting. Bunting would be playing for a tie. If Jennings is shot and Robertson unavailable, it makes sense not to bunt. Unless Emilio can pitch a few innings. ........................................
  12. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 07:20 PM) Well s***. How do you run out of pensmen? End up w a 13 inning game after a doubleheader.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 07:17 PM) Have a bad feeling Robertson felt something was off when he was warming up. or was traded.................
  14. Dumb question. Why is a pitcher credited with a walk when they intentionally walk a batter ( i.e.Duke). A batter is not credited with an out when they sacrifice.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 18, 2015 -> 12:37 AM) You could be right, but I see Saladino being sent down. Conor was a golden boy entering this season. He was supposed to be OUTSTANDING for us this season. Can't see them pulling the plug. Maybe Sanchez goes down instead. Conor could be an extra throw -in to a trade in the coming weeks.
  16. Danks and Sale and pray for hail
  17. Flowers another game winning hit.
  18. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 07:54 PM) KC will go yard 2 times off Danks. Danks will eat up KC and spit them out
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 07:03 PM) Conor can hit a little - maybe more if he had some coaching. Bonifacio is useless. Actually he got a hit in the game. Now if Shuck had gone yard................................
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 11:00 AM) Ha, i've been there for good and bad. Saw his gem against the Os, then a few days later his crap game v. toronto (which we won and most runs i've seen all season. He is well-rested so another gem tonight.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 08:30 PM) If I'm sending out Shark and Montas I want a Top 10 prospect. No point in trading a comp + Montas for just any org's 1-3 I would actually spread it to top 20 if it was a C-SS-CF.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 08:11 PM) If I'm trading with the White Sox and I"m in competition, I would very, very much prefer to trade for Putnam or Petricka rather than Montas. Or if you're that desperate for a closer, Robertson. Get someone who is at least partially proven. Why would a team in contention trading for Samardzija want to break in a rookie over the last 2 months of the season? I mean, it worked for Jenks but seriously? And the White Sox, if they're trading people away, would be silly to trade away guys they control for 6.5 years. What are they going to get back that makes them younger and more long-term set up than a guy they already control? I don't think he is being showcased either. But you can look at it another way. A team in contention may be reluctant to give up a top prospect( 1-3 in their system) for a 2 month rental. But trading a top prospect for a 2 month rental plus a young pitcher a couple years away may be more palatable.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 03:45 PM) I get the feeling the Sox payroll has not hampered the team's bottom line at all this season and the Sox are comfortable keeping all the players they acquired. I get a gut feeling the front office thinks 5.5 out of the wild card chase is close enough to keep the team together. During their all-star break meetings, I can see the front office and Robin pointing to the exceptional starting pitching they've been getting and improved defense and them saying, "If we keep up this recent rate of winning we will get the wild card. Let's stay on course and make no changes." Makes too much sense to me. I would prefer dealing Shark immediately and seeing how the team does with Johnson as his replacement. But don't you all agree with me the Sox have made a business decision to stay with the same players and see if the team can grab a wildcard even though they are in last place in their own division? The 5.5. means nothing. On July 4th they were 5.5 games out of wildcard. Since then they are 7-3 and are still 5.5 out of wildcard. Because there are teams ( 6 at this point) between them and the 2nd wildcard, it makes the difference more like 13-15 games back not 5. 5
