For the record, I'm very excited for this year. I'm not thinking World Series but definitely playoffs. I'm just glad to be excited for baseball and that our team has a general direction they're going. Hope we get healthy, stay healthy and kick some ass. What's to be down about? We have one of the best pitchers and hitters in baseball along with a nice young team with some needed veterans that can produce. We have a good young lefty coming up soon. Sale, Shark, Q, and Rodon. Ya that's really something to feel bad about.

People are just over Beckham I get it. As a non baseball analogy, he's like Matt Cassel to Chiefs fans in the NFL. Sucked and we were tired of him rammed up our asses week in week out. I'm over Beckham. As a reserve I can handle it. But he's clearly not a full time player and I want to see Micah and Carlos get their chances.

This seems like it's just a matter of time before its done. May be the offseason but I think it'll get done.

@ChiTribKane: Jose Quintana says for now he is scheduled to pitch the second game of the season, which would leave Jeff Samardzija as opening day starter.

Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports that the Padres most recent offer to free agent hurler James Shields was four years and between $72 and $80 million. On the surface it seems like a very fair offer and one that Shields would be wise to accept. There are several other teams rumored to be in the mix for his services, but industry sources believe that it would be an upset if Shields wound up anyplace else at this point. Victor Martinez tore the medial meniscus in his left knee last week during an offseason workout and is scheduled to undergo surgery on February 10. Dr. James Andrews will perform the procedure. It's not all that serious as far as knee injuries go, but the timing is obviously quite poor with major league camps due to open in two weeks. V-Mart has to be considered questionable for the start of the 2015 regular season and the Tigers might no longer risk trying the 36-year-old slugger at positions other than DH. 85 wins is where I'm at with this team. If we add another starter, according to Bruce Levine, depending on who it is I could see the win total increase.

If this team can get to 85 wins I'll be happy. I want to go to the playoffs obviously but we got to let it play out. If we miss the playoffs it'll be disappointing but not the end of the world.
