Look at the stats: Jon Jay cannot play CF.
-
Sure. Absolutely. Gives Jon Jay protection in the lineup. Give me all the guys who used to be able to play centerfield!
-
You call this work? If I soiled the bed this consistently at my job, I would be fired. We have a season ahead of watching big roles from Jon Jay, Yonder Alonso, Ervin Santana, Wellington Castillo, and Ivan Nova, after watching Shields, Derek Holland, etc over the last two years. I am seriously considering a scenario where that truck didn’t swerve and I am in hell.

2/23 ST Games, split vs. LAD and OAK
Timmy U replied to caulfield12's topic in 2019 Season in Review
Wow. You really get a feel for the dearth of talent on the mlb squad when they split it up. The home game has two guys who are going to be starters in 2020, Jimenez and Anderson, and the road game has maybe two Moncada and Madrigal. This rebuild is going to take a while. -
Donn Roach starting ST game is current Chisox.com headline?
Timmy U replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
My fear is he makes the opening day roster, the money becomes guaranteed and he has nothing ala Shields. -

And yet, Donn Roach, is in the large group of people I would rather watch pitch for the Sox than Ervin Santana. If he sucks, cut him. Jerry never releases guaranteed money. -
Sox signing Ervin Santana (pending physical) to milb deal per WSD
Timmy U replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Since they’re not going to contend anyway, I half believe that Reinsdorf is taking one for the league. “See? The veteran free agents signed. No reason to change the rules.” -

I dispute the word “dive.” -

If they sign Adam Jones, I am going to crossover from anger to enjoyment. I will hate watch this season like it’s the last year of ER. -
Steve Carlton. Ron Santo.

Marwin Gonzalez Signs with the Twins - 2 yr/21 mil
Timmy U replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You and I just disagree on Marwin. I think he’s had his one good fluke year. Maybe I’m wrong. But I think the Astros agree with me. -
Sox signing Ervin Santana (pending physical) to milb deal per WSD
Timmy U replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Okay, maybe it has nothing to do with Cease or Dunning. Maybe I just don’t want to spend any of the precious time I have left on Earth watching Ivan Nova or Ervin Santana and thinking, “I hope we can flip him for a C+ prospect.” -
Sox signing Ervin Santana (pending physical) to milb deal per WSD
Timmy U replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It' not a crazy idea. Remember last year when they said one of the reasons they weren't bringing up Eloy is that they didn't want to take AB's away from Palka, Delmonico, and Ryan Cordell? They may have been lying, but still... -
Marwin Gonzalez Signs with the Twins - 2 yr/21 mil
Timmy U replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I am not convinced that the next 2 years of Marwin Gonzalez are going to be better than the next 2 years of Jose Rondon. And not because I think Rondon is all that good. -

Ha ha, in another thread I said that Ivan Nova is an example of the White Sox thinking 5 years behind rather than 5 years ahead. This is more of it. Imagine if they won't bring up Dylan Cease or Dane Dunning cuz they're giving the innings to Ivan Nova and Ervin Santana. This isn't a rebuild, it's turning trash into treasures. -
Fernando Tatis Jr. trade burns more than the loss in the Machado sweeps
Timmy U replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He also won the NL home run crown and played Gold Glove caliber defense. Maybe, but Keith Law wrote before the trade that he had scouts telling him that, we’re he eligible for the draft, Tatis would go 1-1. Everyone knew he was a significant prospect, but they valued their mirage of a hot start, James Shields past, and salary relief over future production. The decision making in this trade encapsulates everything wrong with the Sox management’s thinking over the last ten years. They prefer past production that Kenny saw on TV five years ago to production five years from now. Hence, Ivan Nova and Jon Jay. -
Just keep Yonder below 550 PA’s and I don’t care. Jay will be gone by August 1. Basabe’s injury probably means Jay and Engel have jobs for the vast majority of the season. Gonzalez is my dark horse to force a change.
-
They've also been extremely unlucky/too good in September. With those records, they've picked first zero times, second zero times. They've even sucked at sucking.
-
This might be the most depressing post of the year. Reading that is about a cheery as reading my own obit.
-
I’ll miss everybody who leaves, but I want to watch Eloy and the other young guys when they arrive. Frankly, I am still way madder about Tatis than Manny anyhow. I agree with all the other posters that watching Alonso and especially Jay while they waste roster spots for a year is going to suck.
-
They are two very different hitters. Moncada’s strength in the minors was he took a lot of pitches and was very good on balls away, with pop and speed. Problem is maybe he takes too many pitches and has holes especially just inside out of the strike zone. Eloy is way more aggressive with fewer/no glaring holes, but he doesn’t walk all that much. Nothing similar about them at all, really.
-
I agree. 9 years until he signs, 275 million page thread.
-
Man, I wish I had your confidence. To me, he is a player to watch because, if he is all bat to ball grounders — no walks, no power, then he is barely a major league regular let alone a guy you take with a top 5 pick. Fingers crossed.
-
I’d add Amado Nunez to that. Kenny is going to be interesting.
-
I guarantee the Mets are not involved. They're still paying for their owner's Madoff mistake. NYC prices for a mid-tier payroll. League should have made them sell.
