Kash Mayfield to the Padres. They always go upside.

Good point. How about “Have shown no ability to get hitters better. Ever.”

Not me. Sox have shown no ability to help guys like him.

Move over, Jud Fabian. Baltimore has a good rep developing hitters. If they unlock this guy, the ceiling is monstrous, but that is a big if.

Nice pick by the Dodgers.

Tampa has my favorite pick almost every year.

Such a weak class. Everyone is chasing upside I guess.

Red Sox get Teel fall to them one year and then Montgomery the next. Pretty sweet luck for them.

2024 - MLB Draft Thread
I think agents tell all the teams the number that it would take to sign. Bazzana is reputed to have a pretty big number. If Bazzana falls and the Sox are interested, they likely call the agent and ask if he would sign for the Sox slot ($7.8 mil roughly). If he has assurances somewhere else that he's getting $8.5 mil+, chances are the Sox do not draft him.

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
When the 2023 collapse happened, it was clear that they were going to have to get rid of EVERYONE. Replacing an entire failed roster is easier said than done. Given the fact that they got rid of their entire starting rotation and 90% of their bullpen, the pitching has been reasonable. With the lingering injuries and the bad approaches that have been exposed in the last three seasons, this team simply can't score. I guess getting someone like Soto might have made them closer to a .500 team, otherwise, it was always going to be some version of this.

Crochet Trade Updates (Nightengale)
Outside of those 3, there is a steep drop off. I guess the next tier is Norby, Bradfield, and Beavers. But they are all 50FV types with a lot of warts. For Fedde, I could see Beavers and somebody. Personally, I like Horvath a little bit, but hard to see a trade for Crochet built on the middle of the Orioles system.

Tyler Glasnow hits IL, Dodgers looking for pitching
How about a low mileage Flexen? Or a factory-reconditioned Fedde?

Sox in such an interesting position. There is either risk or low upside fears with just about everyone in this draft. I think Condon is pretty safe. Everyone else is a crapshoot. I prefer high risk/high reward like Griffin, but Bazzana has decent upside with less risk. I wonder what the Sox are thinking.

7/13 Games
Pipeline has him at #23 in the Sox system and they slap a 40FV on him. Love Jim Callis, but this is insane. Anyone who saw him last year at W-S would have been at least 45+ once he proved he could play short. Hitting .330 all year at higher levels, I think he's a 50.

7/13 Games
David Fletcher has converted to being a knuckleballer while he's being investigated for gambling. He has held the Barons to 2 runs and he's pitching into the 9th!
