QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 08:38 AM) As we go throughout this melancholic life through the drab and dreary, slumping and carrying our tired feet one step at a time on the ever-so-slow process towards our grave, we occasionally come across a ray of sunshine that ultimately changes our life to the point where you, as a single representative of humanity, can say "I'm a better person today than I was yesterday." I recently switch to flushable wipes. I'm a better person than I was yesterday. It's such a monumental switch. Too intimidating.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 2, 2014 -> 02:03 AM) Same here. And after a half a dozen times or so, they start to figure out that they can speed the process along by lifting up each paw and leg for me. Mine has no interest in speeding the toweling process along. She either tries to slink away or decides it's a good time to show affection and just buries her head in my chest.

He asked his bar buddies and they all said Sabes lose.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 08:01 AM) I would not be surprised if the White Sox brought in a veteran LH option out of the bullpen, but I would be surprised if the White Sox paid top dollar over multiple years for the top available lefty on the market. Which leaves the real question...assume Miller is out of our range but we still would want a veteran lefty. What options do we have available to fill that need? Left-Handed Relievers Joe Beimel (38) Craig Breslow (34) – $4MM club option with a $100K buyout Sean Burnett (32) – $4.5MM club/vesting option with a $500K buyout Phil Coke (32) Neal Cotts (35) Scott Downs (39) Zach Duke (32) Tom Gorzelanny (32) Andrew Miller (30) Franklin Morales (29) Joe Thatcher (33) Cotts! Cotts! Cotts! We must retain at least one member of the '05 team on the roster for all time.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 07:55 AM) And zero postseason at-bats, quite the way to end a career last night It was like a Greek tragedy. I felt really bad for him that he couldn't find a way into a 12-inning game. Honestly, objectively, that was a bummer.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 05:53 AM) I have been giving this some thought listening to Hawk, but if Robin Ventura were no longer the manager of the team, I would want the Sox to hire Bo Porter. I really liked what he did with the Astros and he should still be managing the team. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 04:40 AM) Ned Yost is a f***ing idiot that lucked into a win. This. Both managers tried really hard to give it away. I have no idea why Melvin left Lester out there in the 8th at all - it's do or die, go to your talented bullpen. As for Yost, new sig.

Either team will be incredibly lucky to win this game.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 10:38 PM) So it's a guarantee Dyson steals second, right? Ned Yost.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 09:14 AM) well this game is supposed to be awesome, and they have a gamecube extension port and started selling new cube controllers again. SSB is one game i never really got into, but i will watch my buddies throw down Why wouldn't you? Smash is in the Trash Talk Hall of Fame. They've been very smart in marketing this game. The little tourney at E3, the simultaneous 3DS release, the character videos. The fanbase is in a lather.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 09:09 PM) You realize Gillaspie has never played LF right? This Gillaspie as the starting LF thing needs to do. He'd be a slightly worse version of De Aza offensively and who knows defensively. I agree. Out of nowhere people were putting Gillaspie in the outfield one day. I don't think it's an option.

Guerra and Quintana look to hit "super 2"
shysocks replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 09:07 AM) That contract will end up changing the game. I think you will see teams like Pittsburgh, Houston, and Tampa try and sign guys to long-term deals prior to or shortly after call up and those players' agents will say "let's increase his salary if he qualifies as a Super 2." George Springer reportedly turned down 7/$23 from the Astros. It's still a joke of an offer by them, but if they had offered him a boost in compensation if he reached Super 2 status - say 7/$33 - do you think he turns that down? The A's did the same thing with the Doolittle contract, which came about a month after Quintana's. I could swear I remember some player having that before Q, but the name escapes me now. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 30, 2014 -> 09:07 AM) crazy that they went gamecube retro with it. Its cool that they respect the following that Melee got, though To this day Melee might be my favorite game of all time. I don't own a Wii U but if Smash can't get me to buy one, nothing can.

Non-story. They had an argument in the manager's office. Sale apologized the next day. That's how things should go. The only reason we know is because somebody tattled.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 07:44 PM) Ideally, Rodon starts the season in the bullpen and becomes a starter in either June or July to save his arm. What... no. Any scenario that has Rodon pitching out of the White Sox bullpen should be avoided, except the above mentioned "we're competitive in June and the rotation is full."

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 03:50 PM) I'd love to see Dusty(save me the pitch count garbo), or Leyland.

Let's Grade the Players, Coaches, Hahn for 2014

QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 03:56 PM) Puig, Sale, Goldschmidt, Jose Fernandez and I'd even throw McCucthen in the conversation despite a pretty high AAV. Isn't Fernandez still pre-arb? The rest are fantastic deals. Distinction: the Sox have three of these guys. -

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 03:38 PM) Noob question, but why would Sale and Q sign team friendly deals like that? They both signed before they were "proven." That's my assessment, at least. Sale signed his just before the 2013 season, when he had one great year out of the bullpen and one in the rotation under his belt. Quintana had only thrown one full year as a major league starter when he signed his. In hindsight they should both fire their agents, but they traded their upsides for immediate financial security. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 02:43 PM) Wait, Houston didn't sign Aiken??? They didn't. Something about the size of his UCL. It was a whole thing! -
AL 1. Orioles 2. A's 3. Angels 4. Royals 5. Tigers NL 1. Pirates 2. Nationals 3. Giants 4. Cardinals 5. Dodgers If we're talking about rooting to win it all, put the first four AL teams 1-4, then all the NL teams, then the Tigers at 10.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 01:36 PM) I'm not worried about it because I don't think it's going to happen but I'm definitely not a fan of bullpenning Rodon for this season. We need starting pitchers, if he's going to be on the Major League team, he should be starting. I'm just mad he even suggested the possibility. Maybe he's just trying to appease Hawk.

Daniel Bard is another name that crapped out. If he's with the big club at all he should be starting. Just... just ugh.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 12:08 PM) Morosi and Passan reporting Gardenhire out as manager in Minnesota. This caught me by surprise. Were there any rumblings that he would be gone?

QUOTE (VAfan @ Sep 29, 2014 -> 11:01 AM) Why don't we get the 7th pick? I count only 6 teams worse than us: Boston, Minnesota, Houston, Texas, Colorado and Arizona. We're tied with Philly and the Cubs, but our record was worse than both last season, so we should win the tiebreaker. Isn't that right? Astros didn't sign Aiken in 2014, so they get the 2nd pick as a "bonus" next year. Everyone else gets pushed back. Hope you enjoyed reading it three times in a row! -

Let's run the grading scale, focusing on "core" guys who needed to be evaluated going into the year. A: Jose Abreu. Not much more to say about him that wasn't already said. His slumps lasted a week and his hot streaks lasted a month or two. He was two completely different players before and after the All Star break, but both of those players were awesome. B: Adam Eaton. He showed us just about everything we could have hoped for. You'll take a .362 OBP from your leadoff hitter every year. Would like him to stay on the field more reliably, and maybe tighten up the stolen base % a little. C: Conor Gillaspie. Proved, at least, that he can hurt righties and be a good platoon player, which is infinitely more than Jeff Soptic proved this year. Unfortunately he did a nosedive to close out the season. Gets an A+ for dugout comedy. D: Avisail Garcia: On the plus ledger, he showed some uncharacteristic plate discipline towards the end of the year that will hopefully linger, and flashed the power that we absolutely need from him. On the minus ledger, everything else. He lost 70% of the season to a clumsy shoulder injury that you could see coming when it didn't happen the first time he dove awkwardly. Both metrics and the eye test confirm that he is not pulling his weight in the outfield, and if we have the second coming of Viciedo here, he's going to need to hit better than he did this year to earn his keep. Still a complete question mark. F: Erik Johnson: What happened to him this season was a shame. It became clear quickly in AAA that he had lost something; who knows why. The FO was counting on him to show progress. Instead, they'd have to be crazy to plan around him in the future.
