Moncada finally admits his preparation needs to change…beginning this offseason (ofc he will be a FA)
And I’d be ok with that.

Zavala DFA, Cronin up, Lambert to IL
Yeah I would have done the same.

Sox place Clevinger on waivers
It’s a $12 million option or $4 million buyout.

Sox place Clevinger on waivers
The timing of his contract including a mutual option with the allegations and being injury prone makes this feel like less of a slam dunk.

Will he opt out?

Sox place Clevinger on waivers
Lopez and Giolito wouldn't as they were in their last years of arb. Same would go for Hunter Renfroe, Harrison Bader, Dominic Leone and Jose Cisnero. As for older vets who have been confirmed to have been placed on waivers: Randall Grichuk, Matt Moore, and Carlos Carrasco do not have buyouts. Edit: of course, the list of players is probably bigger than actually reported though and there could be guys with buyouts.

Sox place Clevinger on waivers
We're talking about 1/6 of their salary. The teams I listed payroll per Spotrac: Reds: $109,205,658 (a team that basically did nothing at the deadline and needed/still needs starters) Twins: $165,962,068 Marlins: $136,869,890 These 3 teams have plenty of room to add a guy or two.

Sox place Clevinger on waivers
Feel like we won't see many guys (especially the starters) get past the Marlins, Reds, Twins.

Sox place Clevinger on waivers
But if he makes the back half of your rotation better for a playoff run/during playoffs, I can see it.

Sox place Clevinger on waivers
Yeah I get why some teams would wait until late. But there has to be worse teams that have impending bigger free agent salaries that are not going to get a QO (cough cough Grandal cough cough) that you think would have been exposed at some point to clear as much salary as possible. That’s why I’m wondering if there was a specific date teams had to wait until.

Sox place Clevinger on waivers
I’m wondering why it’s all happening this late. Is there a rule that teams can’t do that earlier in the month?

8/29 White Sox at Orioles. 6:05, NBCSN/WMVP1000
Turned it off before it was over. What happened?

Sox place Clevinger on waivers
I think they can pull them back. Tyler Anderson is also on waivers and he has 2 years left. Also, Clevinger is with the team. If he were to be waived where he would go to a new team or released if not claimed, I don’t think he would be there.

Fire Pedro Grifol

Just when you think this team can’t get any dumber, they find a way.
