  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 05:43 PM) Ugh. Let Avi play in the bigs now. I'm sure it'll only be a 2-3 game stint.
  2. QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 04:00 PM) What's the point of going down to Charlotte to rehab, let him rehab with the big club, it's not like he's going hurt the team, it can't get much worse. He could certainly help the team scratch out a few wins though.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) A lot will happen between now and the draft. It will be interesting to see how they are lined up by the gurus next June. Exactly. Guys will fall and some will rise between now and draft day.
  4. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 02:03 PM) Shame on those two pitchers for not carrying a team of career MiLBers to victory. There's literally no rationality in your posts sometimes. This one takes the cake. *palm face* that wasn't his point. He wasn't saying those 2 should be doing that in the minors. Just making the case that those who think we will be better with because they are expecting instant dominance as soon as they come up are more than likely wrong.
  5. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 01:13 PM) Kopech would need to be added to the 40 man roster in order for that to happen^ Although his past month has been terrific, I'm not sure his control issues are a thing of the past yet. AAA/MLB hitters are more experienced and patient than AA and below, which will force him to continue to work on harnessing his plus stuff. A callup to the mlb should only be when the organization is convinced he can be here to stay. He's only 21 years old right now, why rush his development? The 2018 season will be ugly, and most of our shiny toys will still be in the minors outside of Moncada, Lopez and possibly Giolito. I'm fine with the party starting in 2019/2020. And there's really no point of starting his service time. Call him up after 2 weeks in 2019 when he gets that extra year of control.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 12:11 PM) I don't know how well Kopech will end up taking Lopez + Giolito getting the call before him. He doesn't strike me as the type to be chill about that They're farther along in their development than he is. You're talking about a guy who has never thrown more than 65 innings in a season until this year.
  7. Consider when Kopech needs to be added to the 40-man as well. They call him up next year, he gets put on the 40-man and will be carried on the 40-man all off-season.
  8. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 10:53 AM) Send Engel back to AAA, and give him at least half a season to work on his hitting. He was in A ball in 2016, so he moved up pretty quickly. Delmonico's bat is ready - give him time in the field to see if he can be a legit LF. Avi plays RF; hope he has another good year and then move him in July. IF won't be changed much from where it is. But then there is the pitching...... Pitching, you got: 1. Rodon 2. Shields 3. Lopez 4. Danish 5. Veteran signing Release one of Shields, cheap veteran signing or both when Giolito and/or Fulmer is ready. Or they can replace Danish.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) These are the 2nd year statistics of one of the best SS's of the current generation: .255/.271/.373, 2.2% BB, 13.5% K (16.4% MLB average), 0.5 WAR, 64 wRC+, 229 PAs And these are the statistics of Tim Anderson: .237/.258/.361, 2.5 BB%, 27.9% K (21.6% MLB average), -1.0 WAR, 59 wRC+, 402 PAs Jose Reyes was only 21 years old in 2004, but considering where both are at with regards to their overall baseball age, I'd say they are similar. Anyone willing to write Tim Anderson off in the first year of the rebuild needs a reality check. Anyone will to write off Tim Anderson after during his first full year in the bigs is in for a loooong rebuild.
  10. C: Narvaez/Smith (would also be ok with veteran backup signing) 1B: Abreu/Gillaspie/Delmonico 2B: Moncada 3B: Davidson SS: Anderson LF: Delmonico CF: Cordell RF: A. Garica (if not traded, then probably a combo of other borderline guys Cordell/Delmonico/W. Garcia/Engel) DH: Gillaspie/Delmonico/Abreu Bench: C: whoever is sitting out of Narvaez/Smith/possible vet signing IF: Sanchez OF: Engel UTIL: L. Garcia
  11. Think we are looking at out 2018DH here. And I'm 100% ok with that.
  12. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 04:09 PM) I agree, especially since Calhoun likely ends up at DH. But I don't think they could have done much better either, so I think both teams came out OK in the deal. Exactly. They weren't in a position to hold onto him and possibly receive more. If they offered a QO and he declined and signed elsewhere, it's a pick after third round instead of first right?
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:59 PM) He's an interesting guy, and definitely one the Sox should be taking a look at. Problem is, he kind of sucks. Yeah, whenever the time comes where we have a 40-man roster crunch, he's easy fodder.
  14. How can anyone pencil Charlie Tilson into a lineup at this point without being sarcastic.
  15. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:36 PM) Not a bad return for a three month rental of a slumping Darvish. Calhoun does not really have a position and might be best suited as an AL DH. Alexy has promise and is only 19. Davis looks like a throw in. Considering they didn't have the leverage of a first round draft pick on their side if they offered a QO and got declined, this is a good get.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:25 PM) Is Liriano all the Astros did? So far yes. And McCullers is on the dl now. Sounds like they could use Gonzo
  17. QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:25 PM) Astro's are the real losers here. Didn't swing a deal other than bullpen help (1 player, forgot who). They need SP. I am looking for them to lose in the playoffs due to SP issues. Francisco Liriano.
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:22 PM) I had no idea what you were talking about but then I thought about if for a minute...
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:20 PM) Yu was rumored to be staying at the time That's why you gotta wait a bit after the deadline.
  20. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:17 PM) Tobias Myers I just love the fact that you responded with the name of the player. More specifically, the first name.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:02 PM) Assuming no other major deals, what a failure for the Dodgers. They are relying on the same staff that fell apart in the postseason last year. Feels like the Cubs closed the gap big time on them over last few weeks in terms of postseason roster. They got Watson, Cingrani, and Darvish today.
  22. Didn't someone say Pelfrey was warming up in the bullpen the other day close to the end of the game? Maybe he is being moved to the pen.
  23. Tim Beckham to Orioles...that's a weird one.
  24. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 03:04 PM) It's over. Dan Hayes said we didn't do anything Ah.
  25. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 02:59 PM) Looks like Gonzo stays. Give it til 4. The Peavy to Sox trade was announced like 30 mins after the deadline.
