QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 11:41 AM) I feel like Catcher war is often lower due to games played, is that an accurate statement? Probably. Maybe it's adjusted? I'll admit that I have no clue.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 11:30 AM) Some punk blogger who lives in his mom's basement. Yeah who obviously has no connections who work for the White Sox.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) If you had to bet all your money, like HAD to...would you have him closer to a .700 or .800 OPS? Love the guy above me- "Na man, closer to .900." Love it! I'm going closer to .800. Maybe around .760-.785 OPS.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) 5 players in baseball put up a .390 or better OBP last year and only 3 of those hit 30 homers. I would guess closer to Brian McCann numbers if he hits his peak, and more mid to late career McCann than early career McCann, .250/.340/.460, something like that. If he hits over 20 homers and can stick behind the plate, I take those numbers all day.

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 09:45 PM) At this point the Sox should be pitting teams offers against each other, not against the idea of the Sox holding onto Quintana. Why would you think they aren't already doing this?

I don't get access to twitter at work so they have broken news to me.

QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 06:29 PM) Elite Prospects >>>> "Major league ready talent" Elite prospects are major league ready at somepoint so in a lot of cases, samr thing.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 05:52 PM) If the offers were up to par then Quintana would have been traded already I'm guessing right now the offers stand at: Houston: martes, tucker, paulino Pirates: Glasnow, Newman, Diaz/Hayes/Craig Sox aren't biting I get that. I'm not saying otherwise haha

QUOTE (JRL @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 05:36 PM) There was clearly a lot in my post that addressed other common sentiments re the need to trade Quintana now, as opposed to holding until the deadline or through the season, in addition to addressing what you did say. Your contention that Quintana's trade market at the deadline or next offseason is significantly effected by "factoring in next year's free agent market on pitching" could have meant only either/both/some combination of 2 possible things: 1. Teams won't trade as much for him at the deadline , because they can trade for other pending free agent pitchers at the deadline; 2. Teams won't trade as much for him at the deadline or next offseason, because they can sign a pitcher who will be a free agent after 2017 during next offseason. It was unclear which you meant, simply addressed why both of those contentions, don't necessarily hurt Quintana's trade value. You also said that only those teams that have currently been reported with rumored interest in him now would be the only teams possibly interested in him throughout the season and beyond, and that the offers received for Quintana at some point during or after the season would only "be the same at best", so I also addressed why additional teams might become interested in Quintana, and why there is a good possibility that offers received around the deadline, and even possibly next offseason, may well be better than what the Sox are being offered currently, or at least more suitable to the Sox. I am not saying that this will 100% be the case, just that it is a possibility. I have no way of knowing that forsure, and quite frankly, thought they have far more info than we do, neither do the Sox. Their job is to use the far better and more plentiful information that they have compared to us, and do the best they can to determine whether it will or won't likely be the case and determine the best path to take re trading or holding Quintana, and until when, based on that conclusion. But, to claim that "at best" the offers on Quintana will be the same down the road, and therefore it is most likely best to trade him now is not sound. It's certainly one possibility, but it's at best an equally likely possibility as them doing better down the road. Fyi, I'm not advocating they trade him now just that we might be looking at the best offers now. Hopefully July brings us some surprise contenders if they end up not trading him now. Granted all the teams can't put together a competitive enough offer to trade for him. Ideally, Yankees are playing well going into July.

QUOTE (JRL @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 04:46 PM) a) who are all these pitchers that will be available at the deadline? To be fair, I never said there would be a lot of guys available at the deadline and never suggested they'd get less trading him then than now. Sucks you typed all that thinking I did. I said "if they don't trade him by the trade deadline."

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 04:14 PM) Yes sir. 2017 is the first year of the 5/35M extension he signed. Starling Marte contract is also great. Edit: you sure you didn't mean 7? He's signed for 7 more years.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 03:58 PM) Scary thing? Polanco will still be under contract when Vlad Jr is 24-25. He's signed for that long? Edit: Holy s***, just checked. Why did he do that to himself lol I mean, it's good to take the guaranteed money but he will be a free agent after his age 31 season. Second edit: they bought out 3 years of free agency for him. Good for them.

QUOTE (RegionSox @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 03:46 PM) I just saw on Twitter that Abbatacola is going to be the full time update anchor for Bernstein and Goff. So he's replacing Rongey?
-
QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 03:51 PM) Probably not, unless acquiring Vlad Jr. makes them more comfortable trading Meadows to the Sox. Yeah I don't see the connection. By the time he is ready to make an impact, I'm pretty Polanco and Marte would be traded/left via free agency by that time.
-
QUOTE (Whitesoxa6 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 03:46 PM) Heard that the pirates could be targeting Vlad Jr. In a McCutchen-Jays swap. Not sure if he would really move the needle on a potential Q package though Where did you see this? And yeah he seems like he would be too far away too make an impact on any deal that could involve closer to ready MLB prospects from getting dealt.
-
QUOTE (OklahomaBrave @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 03:29 PM) I generally assumed that they have multiple offers that would be sufficient. At this point I believe they are really just trying to hold out for additional talent and weighing The offers. I feel like this could be the case but who really knows.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 02:57 PM) If it does just keep him for the 4 years Yeah if he's here past the trade deadline, factoring in next year's free agent market on pitching, I feel like there's a chance we may not see better offers than we are receiving now. Edit: I guess he would still make sense as an option for the current teams still in on him like the Astros and Pirates. But offers would possibly be the same at best.

Brazilian RHP Eric Pardinho: July 2nd Prospect

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 02:53 PM) With the new rules, isnt this next July 2nd period a hard cap? You might be correct. I'll look later. -

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) Or skip it altogether and save money to make a run at Otani. Depends on when he comes over. He may wait it out until he isn't a restricted free agent and when that happens, it won't matter if we went over our bonus pool because he wouldn't counts towards that. -
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 12:19 PM) Am I the only one who hates Judge, thinks he's nearly guaranteed to bust, and thinks that the likelihood of him busting only increases if he joins the White Sox organization? Honestly, I'd prefer Andujar to him. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) I am not a Judge fan really. I'd prefer Rutherford as a third piece in a Yankees deal I see mlb pitches eating Judge's 6'7" 275 lb strike zone alive, resulting in loads of strikeouts I would take the deal due to getting Torres and Frazier back. Judge would be a guy we could start in the OF right away and see if he can hit, but the other 2 would be the prizes in the proposed deal (though I think very unlikely).
-
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 12:22 PM) I am not a Judge fan really. I'd prefer Rutherford as a third piece in a Yankees deal I don't see New York being willing to deal Torres + Frazier + Judge/Rutherford/Mateo/Kaprellian/Sheffield for Quintana though I see mlb pitches eating Judge's 6'7" 275 lb strike zone alive, resulting in loads of strikeouts I doubt they would be willing to deal Torres and Frazier in one deal honestly.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 12:07 PM) It's largely due to how expensive free agency has gotten Cheap seasons of young major league talent is very valuable vs. shelling out in free agency Many will disagree, but I tend to side on the proven major league talent almost always being superior in value to prospects. Quintana is a proven a well above average mlb starting pitcher, and his 4 seasons of control warrant 3 elite prospects True.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 12:01 PM) http://dawindycity.com/2017/01/12/chicago-...x-three-trades/ What do you guys think about these proposals? Sox Asking price for Quintana is currently "3 Elite Prospects" = Yankees: Frazier (OF), Torres (SS), and Judge (OF) Pirates: Glasnow (RHP), Meadows (OF), and Diaz © Astros: Reed (1B), Martes (RHP), and Tucker (OF) Rockies: Rodgers (SS/2B), Jeff Hoffman (RHP), and Tapia (OF) Todd Frazier Athletics: Holmes (RHP) and Chapman (3B) Braves: Sean Newcomb (LHP) and Kolby Allard (LHP) I don't see either of these deals as being realistic for one season of Frazier Abreu to the Rockies Rockies: Riley Pint (RHP) and Tom Murphy © I don't love that deal for the White Sox. Thoughts? I really love that Rockies, Pirates and Yankees one for Q. I would probably take either of those deals for Frazier. Probably no on the Abreu one.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 11:58 AM) It is somewhat annoying that there are not many stupid organizations left in Baseball. 10 years ago some team like the brewers would be inexplicably involved because "you need an ace" Yeah it sucks that so many teams value their top prospects so much more now. Before it seemed like you would see so many blockbuster trades around the trade deadline and during winter meetings.
