  1. QUOTE (pablo @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 02:13 PM) Unfortunately, I'd have to agree as well. To me, there are such obvious holes at the front end of their rotation and the back end of their bullpen that both Q or Jones/Robertson make a ton of sense for them. They spent a ton of money this offseason for good reason to bring back Jansen and Turner. After Kershaw it's a bunch of 4's and 5's. Urias has a chance to be really, really good, but you might waste Kershaw's prime waiting for it to happen. Exactly. He seems like the kind of guy who should still be in the minors building up innings since he's never really thrown many in his career over the course of a season as opposed to being on an MLB team hoping to win right now. He really shouldn't be that relied on. Say if the Dodgers moved him in a deal for a pitcher under control for a while and could throw over 200+ innings right now (cough cough Quintana cough cough), I would assume the acquiring team, if rebuilding, would keep him in the minors for close to a season. Dodgers may be in need a starter in July if not sooner (Ryu, Hill or someone else) can go on the dl and miss significant time.
  2. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 02:46 AM) I checked again today, and the cheapest tickets through American Airlines now are $430. So I think I did well. Groom thinks we can get our AirBNB place at the MGM for about $120 a person for the 3 nights. So we are talking under $300 for my flight + board, with access to MGM pools. My stress about this has changed to excitement, for sure. I went to Vegas in early October for a bachelor party. Was a great time. I recommend getting a cabana at a pool (any pool but we were at the Flamingo). Also, can you link me to where you saw cheap tickets for Vegas? Every time I look, it's around $450 round trip like you said. Thanks.
  3. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) That trade along with the infamous Dave Stewart trade aren't the best examples. What I mean is you can't always count on finding a sucker. Both of those trades had alot of baseball people scratching their heads. If Hahn can find a sucker that's great but I'm not counting on it. Plus, part of Giles value was his age, years of control, cheap salary and a Closer, all of which made Giles more valuable at that time than Jones is now. Jones is a setup for the Closer. Now, if Robertson is traded before the season begins and Jones can become a successful Closer, then we can start aiming higher towards the likes of the Giles trade. But not at this point. Put it this way. Would you trade Alford, Urena, McGuire and Tellez for setup arm? I sure as hell wouldn't and would be pissed if the Hahn did something like that. Even the Indians-Miller deal isn't a great example. A team with a pretty deep farm made that deal. Traded 2 guys in the top 100 for him (along with a couple other pieces) and still had like 5 guys in the top 100 post-trade (I think it is 4 now).
  4. QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) My mistakes cost me a small fortune but the ONLY worthwhile return on the investment was that my son was protected quite a bit. Thanks for the sentiment. Edit: You know it's a slow time in the offseason when we're talking about my personal s*** in a Quintana thread. : It's the most recent news in this thread in about 2-3 weeks lol Here's to a better life
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 1, 2017 -> 09:42 AM) Nah, I still feel like Quintana gets traded in the next 10 days. Hopefully six months from today, we're liking the 7-8 trades total they've made. So far, they'e turned Duke (it started then), Sale and Eaton into Moncada, Kopech, Giolito, Lopez, Basabe, Tilson, Dunning, Diaz. Pretty good start.

  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 04:33 PM) Or we come into a thread hoping to see updates from twitter, etc., only to see the 500th trade proposal asking for Cubs prospects or Meadows Yeah I come here hoping to see something new.
  8. QUOTE (MDWhiteSoxFan @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) I absolutely hate this thread... I come back every single time I open Google Chrome, to read the same things over and over thinking it will be different this time. I see 2 pages since last visit oh it's going to be different, something new has to be happening. Nope same thing. Curse you thread curse you. I know I should just stay away but I can't help it. That was me last Wednesday. Went to a meeting for an hour and there were 5 pages added in that time.
  9. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 03:01 PM) Man, I know its all we got right now but how are you guys still interested with offering up hypothetical's for Q? Havent we already ran through about all the possibilities like 1000 times through, if not more, for each possibility multiple times? Yes we have and no I'm not interested in making up deals that have been discussed for almost 2 months (if not more really).
  10. QUOTE (oneofthemikes @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 02:40 PM) What did we decide about the InsideBaseball6 twitter account? Legit or not, yesterday he tweeted that the Yankees and Sox are still talking occasionally about Q and Robertson. I don't know. But I wouldn't doubt it since the Sox are probably talking with at least 5 teams about Q. We don't need tweets to know they are talking to someone. We are beyond that at this point.
  11. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 02:28 PM) Good point and that would be a Yankee kind of thing to do. It's kind of a similar approach to signing big named free agents except that they make an offer so big that very few teams, if any, can match or come close to the Yanks offer. Call me crazy but I get the feeling Theo is sitting on the fringe with Cashman waiting to see what the offers are to decide if they want to meet or exceed the offers. The cubs have the hitting prospects that are for the most part blocked at the big league level so the cubs could easily part with them without affecting their 25 man roster. It's probably more wishful sinful thinking on my part because I admit I really like Happ, Candelario and Jimenez as prospects. Me too.
  12. At least they didn't wait to trade Zack Duke last season. That would truly suck.
  13. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) It sickens me that we are having to trade Q/Sale to get top 100 prospects and we traded a top 100 prospect in Tatis Jr. for James freaking Shields Agreed. Can only really blame the false hot start to the season. The best we can hope for is that Shields turns in a good first half and a team is looking for a guy to help eat innings during a playoff push/help preserve young arms. Of course, we'd also have to toss in any money going our way already from the Padres.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 07:28 AM) It is. It's the Cardinals "Competitive Balance Pick". Oh ok I thought that one was the other pick they got. Thanks for clarifying.
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 07:23 AM) I think something like Tucker, Martes, 3rd piece, 75th pick is fair. I'm not sure Rick Hahn agrees or this would probably be done. Is 75th pick a pick in the second round? I don't think that would be tradeable.
  16. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Jan 31, 2017 -> 02:02 AM) I wonder what role musgrove plays in the Q deal with the astros? musgrove is probably penciled as the astros 5th starter so it would hurt the stros rotation depth. of course a MLB ready prospect is attractive for the sox too since he gives you innings now and still has upside but I wonder if the deal can be done if you don't ask for an MLB ready piece. so something like tucker, martes, reed, fisher and hernandez still would be attractive without attacking the astros MLB depth. would the astros do that? would hahn? Trading Musgrove doesn't hurt their pitching depth since yhey are receiving a pitcher to step in at the top of the rotation.
  17. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 06:31 PM) If the Sox don't get an offer they like, what about an alternative. Consider, 1) Q has been a great teammate and never b****ed about anything publicly. 2) He has been good and durable. 3) Could he be a great mentor for the young guns coming and anchor the staff? He has a four year deal with the last two being options that are considered team friendly given his production. What if the Sox guaranteed those two years (good for him) added two additional option years at a reasonable/slight discount (good for Sox). You could give him a slight signing bonus now or have moderate buyouts on the options to further sweeten the deal for him and to provide he doesn't get jerked around with rumors a full no trade clause for a couple years and then maybe limited no trade after. I hate to say that I prefer trading him but if the offers really aren't there wouldn't this be a viable alternative? You could also do this after this season to minimize the Sox risk but if he has a bad year it hurts everyone. I think they should trade him, but in a hypothetical extension, they'd basically have to restructure his current deal giving him more money over the next 4 years to even make it tempting for him to give up additional potential free agent years.
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 04:59 PM) Farm system, sure. But how are we an improved without Sale and Eaton? Lol...thats a good point.
  19. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 04:25 PM) After Vlad Jr., Reid Foley, Alford, Urena, Tellez their farm system drops off considerably At minimum one of those four players would have to be in a deal The three best prospects are Vlad Jr., Reid Foley and Urena, which all grade as B+ prospects Honestly, I'm not sure I see a deal getting done right now unless they wow us Robertson could be one of the better relief options at the deadline, and multiple suitors could drive up the price I do feel like the Blue Jays will not end up paying the cost and am willing to bet Robertson is here until mid-season (assuming no injury).
  20. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) I could see the Sox eating 6-10 million of the contract, but that also will increase the return It will all come down to what prospects are coming to the Sox, who need the young talent far more than they need salary relief Well that kinda goes without saying at this point. Considering how much we've all talked in circles here the past few months.
  21. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 04:13 PM) If the Sox eat the entire contract I would expect a pretty massive prospect return No way we pay $24 million for him to pitch for the Blue Jays without getting a haul More than likely, I could see the Sox being willing to pick up some of the contract in exchange for a nice prospect return Yeah realistically, would you say $10 mill? 5 this year, 5 next.
  22. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 04:05 PM) https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/why-the-ro...-185827010.html So far we have now heard the Nationals, Yankees and Blue Jays have shown interest in Robertson Sox do not really need salary relief and are much more interested in acquiring impactful talent in exchange for him Eat the whole thing if you have to
  23. Here's their top ten: 1. RHP Sean Reid-Foley 2. OF Anthony Alford 3. 3B Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. 4. RHP Conner Greene 5. RHP Jonathan Harris 6. SS Richard Urena 7. RHP T.J. Zeuch 8. 1B Rowdy Tellez 9. C Max Pentecost 10. SS Bo Bichette
  24. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 30, 2017 -> 03:57 PM) I'm not all that knowledgable regarding the Blue Jays system. Who should we be hoping the Sox get if this deal does happen? Sounds like if a deal happens, it'll be a good haul for us based on the Sox not wanting to deal him after a down year. I'm not too familiar with their system either.
