  1. Fulmer for Happ. Make it happen.
  2. If the Sox were solely looking for someone to eat innings, then Santana makes more sense since he's a veteran. But they already have Nova to do that job. The potential upside is just so much higher with Banuelos. Not giving him at least a couple starts to audition himself would be silly. Like I said, the odds of him figuring it out aren't all that high but you never know. Nobody thought anything of Jose Quintana when the Sox signed him either.
  3. While the odds of it are slim, Banuelos could provide some sort of value to the Sox heading forward, as he's still fairly young and has a lot of team control should he figure things out. Santana is a 36 year old who is only here to eat innings and get flipped at the deadline. And it's not like they would get anything of note for him anyway. Banuelos should get much more of an opportunity.
  4. The rotation obviously has a number of question marks, but man, this team is really going to hit. We'll probably see a lot of 10-8 games this year.
  5. The Sox will get one of Rutschman, Vaughn, or Witt no matter what. Not a terrible spot to be in.
  6. I literally have no recollection of him ever being an All Star.
  7. Goldschmidt is signing an extension with St. Louis.
  8. I never really expected it to happen, but I was holding out a sliver of hope that he would come back. This sucks.
  9. This thread wasn't meant to trash Burger at all. I love the guy and hope he succeeds as much as he possibly can. He just looks bigger than I remembered, that's all.
  10. Is it me, or does he look really...big?
  11. I'm really close to losing all hope for Giolito. He just isn't good.
  12. Eh, it's just a mock lineup. The point is that they should still be able to put together a good lineup looking forward even without Machado/Harper.
  13. It's tough to put together future lineups, but here goes. LF: Eloy CF: Robert RF: JD Martinez/Nick Castellanos 3B: Moncada SS: Anderson 2B: Madrigal 1B: Vaughn DH: Abreu C Collins That really isn't that bad on paper, and not all that unrealistic either.
  14. This Eloy deal would look so much nicer if he was hitting behind Machado in the lineup, but whatever. Draft Vaughn, sign Castellanos/JD Martinez and suddenly this lineup looks pretty good heading forward.
  15. All in all, this certainly doesn't make up for missing on Harper and Machado, but it is a step in the right direction. I'd rather have them do this than have the money burn a hole in Reinsdorf's wallet.
  16. Depending on how he performs this season, I'd like to see the Sox do a deal like this with Moncada as well.
  17. I'm assuming this will buy out a couple free agent years, right?
  18. Moncada walked but took 2 close pitches that could have been strikes. Wish he would be more aggressive.
  19. He's such an enigma. He looks fantastic one inning and awful the next.
  20. Peavy44, Caulfield, and Greg
  21. I've been thinking about this all day and I'm torn. On one hand, I'd rather have the Sox spend money on a potential star rather than blowing it all on more mediocre players (like they did this offseason), but the terms Hector mentioned don't make a lot of sense to me. Spending that much just to get one additional year of control seems like a questionable move. I'd have to hope there would be 2 or 3 team options tacked onto the end of it. That would make more sense from the Sox perspective.
  22. This place is going to be unbearable god forbid Eloy struggles out of the gate
  23. This forum is something else
  24. I love Eloy and think he is going to be great, but why give a guy 100 million when they weren't willing to give a superstar in Manny Machado an extra 50 million to get him to sign here? It makes no sense.
