3/13 - Brew Crew @ Sox - 3:05 CDT - spring training
I don’t understand what happened to Leasure. He looked good at the start of last season, then got hurt and fell off a cliff. Maybe he’s still not 100% physically.

White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
I’m no prospect expert but Hope has a lot of helium recently from what I’ve read. But yeah I agree with you. Robert would be much more useful for them over the next 3 years than Hope.

White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
Hasn’t Hope’s prospect status been soaring recently? I’m not sure if they would even trade him for Robert.

White Sox asking for "top prospects" for Robert
I would say Rushing, but catcher is the last thing the Sox need now. Unless he can play outfield.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
I was at opening day the year Jacob May made the team. He genuinely might be the worst Sox player I’ve ever seen. I think he only had like 2 MLB hits before they sent him down and then he never came back.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
I would’ve been far more annoyed if they rushed him up just to sell a couple extra tickets for opening day. Optioning him is the logical and smart approach. Maybe they are actually learning how to operate like an actual MLB franchise.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
I don’t think he will ever be Bobby Witt Jr. either. But like you said, he doesn’t have to be Bobby Witt Jr. to be a productive player and integral piece on this team. I’m hoping that they rely less on these prospects with the revamped farm system and Ishbia potentially coming in. That was the problem with the last rebuild. They were banking on Moncada, Eloy, etc to all be stars for it to work. When that didn’t happen, they were screwed.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
They just announced Colson has been optioned to AAA. So much for that. Haha.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
I wonder if the velocity hitting ability is related to the back injuries.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
I just don’t think there is a need to rush Colson to be on the Opening Day roster. It would be different if the team was competing for something and/or he was lighting up spring training. Neither of those things are true. They might as well take their time with him.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
This is a very pessimistic outlook on Colson in my opinion. He was bad last season, no doubt about it. But that was the first time he had ever struggled in his entire minor league career, and virtually every pitcher he faced was significantly older than him. The reoccurring back issues do concern me a bit, as is his ability to play SS everyday. But if he’s healthy, I think Colson will be a very good player even if he moves to 3B at some point.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
True. It’s in their best interests to get the extra year on all the top guys, but at least there’s an argument that Teel has looked good this spring. Colson has barely even played. Just let Baldwin or whoever play SS until he’s actually ready.

Opening Day 26-Man Roster
I don’t agree with Colson being on the opening day roster. He hasn’t played much this spring and they should taken it slow with his back issues. No sense in wasting a year of control on him. If they are going to do that for anyone, it should be Teel.

Berroa, Carela getting TJ
Agreed. Still sucks obviously, but this season was always going to be a wash anyway.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
How do the percentages work? If Ishbia owns a higher percentage than Reinsdorf as a result of this, is he in control now? It’s kind of confusing.

ST: Battle for 29th place
I don’t see him ever being a top of the rotation guy, but I think he could be a solid 4 or 5 if he develops a changeup against lefties.

ST: Battle for 29th place
What makes you say that?

Slater oblique strain
These external guys are definitely projects too, but they have no history with the Sox. Whatever the Sox have done in the development process with Colas (and to a lesser extent, Fletcher) clearly hasn’t paid dividends. Perhaps getting new faces in here with no affiliation to the organization could benefit from a change of scenery. It’s just throwing darts at the board essentially.
-
Slater oblique strain
And all that reinforces my original point. These guys aren’t super young anymore. They are what, 26 or 27? If they are still at the point where they have to prove themselves in AAA, then why are they on the 40-man? Surely some other teams scraps have to be a better option to take up space on the 40-man than mid 20’s players who can’t even hit in AAA.
-
Slater oblique strain
The way I see it, they need to figure out what they have in guys like Colas and Fletcher by the end of the season. Either they can be part of the long term plans or they’re not. If Getz is intent on keeping them, they both need substantial MLB at-bats this season for evaluation purposes.
-
Slater oblique strain
You make a lot of fair points. On one hand, the fact that they signed so many stopgap outfielders this offseason indicates that they really don’t believe in Colas and Fletcher that much. Yet at the same time, they believe in them enough to favor them over other external fringe options like Canario, Stone Garrett, etc which feels like some degree of loyalty. I really don’t know what their plan is.
-
Slater oblique strain
Because neither of them deserve to have a spot on the 40-man at this point. Yet they are still here.
-
Slater oblique strain
Even a guy like Stone Garrett would have made sense after all these injuries. I just don’t understand Getz. He’s seemingly loyal to these fringe guys like Colas and Fletcher but not loyal enough to actually give them extended opportunities to prove themselves at the MLB level.

2025 MLB Draft
I want the best available player of course, but at some point I think they will face diminishing returns if they keep drafting pitchers in the first round. They desperately need bats. Unless they draft pitchers, develop them, and then trade them for more proven bats.

Slater oblique strain
I’m in the camp that would have rather had Canario than Slater. We know what Slater is. Even if he’s good, he won’t be here for long and will only fetch a lottery ticket type prospect at best. Canario might not ever be anything, but he’s significantly younger and clearly has some sort of talent considering he’s made it this far. It’s a shame they didn’t make a move for him considering all the injuries that have happened subsequently.
