They are absolutely not irrelevant. They are sunk costs, yes, but those sunk costs like Leury, Diekman, etc are definitely relevant in the realm of budget allocation.
How does that work exactly? I would assume they still owe Hendriks a portion of contract even if he is out for the season. How much money would they save if his deal is insured?
The guy who posted this “rumor” makes up a rumor every day and has never been right about anything, so yeah. Guessing the guy is 15 years old and just wants attention.
Not to be that guy as his health is obviously first and foremost, but will he miss time in the regular season because of this? Serious question, not trying to be insensitive.
The Sox had to pay him $5 million regardless. I think he only ended up losing a million by choosing to leave which isn’t that much given how much he has made in his career.
While it would definitely be annoying, the fact that his physical has been concerning enough for 2 teams to possibly pass on him shows that he might be toast physically.
Baty has to be included if Hendriks goes to the Mets. The Sox have all the leverage here. Mets aren’t willing to pay up for an elite reliever? Then you’re not getting Liam.
