  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 05:10 PM) This is such a tired accusation of every Cuban player at this point. Every. Single. One. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 05:12 PM) Was just going to write that. That is so ridiculous. I'm disappointed in Abreu, but the guy has been a class act since he's been here and tried his all on a decent contract. Grow up, it's just baseball. I like Abreu as a person. I really do. I like him as a ball player too. But 29 year olds typically don't break down as quickly as he has. That's why I'm skeptical regarding his true age.
  2. I want Abreu gone ASAP. I think he's older than he says he is and it's obvious that he's already breaking down physically. The Sox need to trade him before he turns into Avisail Garcia Jr.
  3. Am I the only one that thinks that the Sox could get more for Sale and Q if they traded them right now as opposed to in the offseason? There are several teams out there that think they're one ace away from being able to win it all THIS YEAR. That sense of urgency doesn't really exist in the offseason.
  4. QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 10:16 PM) I know it's sacrilege to suggest trading Sale but the Sox should at least listen to teams this offseason and see if some team can blow them away with an offer. I think Sale would bring back more than Q and the Sox have Q under contract for one more year than Sale. There's an argument to be made that if the Sox can get a haul for Sale, they can be contending again by no later than the 2018 season. On a personal note, fireball pitchers always scare me too. Sooner or later they seem to get injured and personally Q seems like a safer bet to avoid that type of injury. If the Sox can get a combo of 5-6 mlb ready players and or high level prospects for Sale, it may solve a lot of their problems. Sale is hardly a fireball pitcher. He tops out at 95 or 96 these days.
  5. I don't remember if it's 2018 or 2019, but one of those years supposedly has a stacked free agent class. In an ideal world, I'd like the Sox to trade everyone off now, and sign a superstar in 2-3 years when all the guys they'll acquire from these trades now and/or the draft are ready to make an impact at the big league level. If Hahn plays his cards right, this team could be very good in 2 or 3 years.
  6. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 08:38 PM) Sale to LAD for: Urias, De Leon, Seager, Holmes, Bellinger, and Pederson. Q to TEX for: Profar, Brinson, and Tate That's what I'm asking for if I'm in Hahn's seat. Too much for Sale, too little for Q IMO.
  7. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 08:25 PM) For the sake of the rumor mill, it would be nice if Dave would drop some team names and players just so we have something to nibble on while we wait for the deadline. Agreed. It's kind of annoying. Why post that they're interesting in selling if you're not posting the specifics?
  8. Seager and Urias for Quintana? I'd do it, the Dodgers probably wouldn't.
  9. 1-5 road trip. Season over.
  10. Abreu is so washed up it isn't even funny.
  11. Here comes the black hole with 2 guys on base. I know how this AB will end.
  12. Quintana doesn't look particularly sharp today.
  13. These game threads are so barren nowadays.
  14. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 07:37 PM) Sale + Robertson for McCullers, Joe Musgrove, Kyle and Preston Tucker, JD Davis, Teoscar Hernandez, and James Hoyt I'd quit being a Sox fan if this happened.
  15. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) Your view of Dunn is clouded by his time in Chicago. If Gallo draws Dunn comparison, that's a compliment. Adam Dunn was a combined 18 win player in Cincinnati. I'm not sure he does, but I'd rather have a cost-controlled poor-man's version of Dunn than the bloated contract we had with the real Adam Dunn. Take Robertson off the table. I would do Quintana for both and a couple of prospects in a heartbeat. Who would the other prospects be? There is no way that I'd trade Q for just Profar and Gallo. He has way more value than that IMO. At this point, I'd trade Robertson to the highest bidder.
  16. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 12:01 PM) I think Texas would have to throw in another piece to make it balance, but the White Sox would immediately upgrade at middle infield and would potentially have a future 1B. Profar is on the block, ATM. Gallo is a younger version of Adam Dunn that K's even more than Dunn ever did. No thanks.
  17. QUOTE (SI1020 @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 11:57 AM) I agree. I would also like to add that apparently according to the hidebound modern day "book" of managing you gotta let the closer close even if he's in a bit of trouble. You wouldn't want to hurt his feewings and make him go run and hide in a safe space. As the inning unfolded I thought there was more than a good chance Robertson was going to blow the game and I would have taken my chances on someone else getting that last out. If that failed I'll take the heat but I am so sick of the "book' which often shackles a manager's ability to actually manage. Agreed. I would've liked to have seen Robin bring in Duke once Lind was announced, as it was pretty clear that Robertson had absolutely nothing from the start, but of course Robin has to manage by the book.
  18. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 11:26 PM) To me Peter is just another utility guy like a Saladino. I doubt he becomes a starter that can actually contribute enough I agree, but those guys still have value. Imagine having 2 super utility guys that can hit and play great defense. That would be nice.
  19. Sale is a future hall of famer in his prime. Ventura should have let him START the inning at the very least. His command started to fade in the 8th inning, but he has earned the right to finish what he started. If he let someone get on base, then pull him, but give him a chance for the shutout. On the bright side, he was throwing more changeups last night than he had all season and he dominated...so hopefully he continues that trend against Detroit on Saturday. As for Robertson, I've never really liked him. He's a slightly above average closer making elite closer money. I'd definitely move him if there is a taker and let Jones move into the closer role.
  20. You guys are insane. There aren't any meetings going on, because none of these guys are accountable about anything.
  21. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 11:34 PM) No. He was erratic. This was the right call. He's a $50 million closer. Do your job. Rusty but get it done. Yeah, no.
  22. Of course Sale is the one that got screwed over. What a joke.
