Sox @ Royals 8/16
1) It doesn't take much to see that the organization doesn't think highly of Baldwin. Being pinch hit for in the 5th inning for Taylor is brutal. Wouldn't surprise me if Baldwin was moved in the off season. 2) Why pitch Vasil late in the game when you're losing 6-0. You would think he would be used in a better situation. Why waste him in a game that's a lost cause? He has been the best pitcher in the bullpen this past season.

“The 78” is alive and well for the Sox, Bears are 'advancing' Hammond development
If a team pays for a stadium the government usually pays for the infrastructure. The owners of the Bulls and Blackhawks paid for the United Center and the government paid for the infrastructure. I can't help but wonder, if the Bears pay for their new stadium and the government doesn't pay for the infrastructure, what will the Bears ownership do? They don't want to stay in Soldier Field. Would they take an offer from northwest Indiana?

“The 78” is alive and well for the Sox, Bears are 'advancing' Hammond development
Everybody makes mistakes in life but if you're a MLB owner you can't make mistakes like JR did with the present White Sox stadium. I've always thought the stadium situation (where it was built and how it was built) has been JRs biggest mistakes of his ownership. JR didn't realize what he had with the new stadium. When the new stadium opened JR thought the new stadium would draw 2 million fans. He was surprised when it came close to drawing 3 million fans the first year in 1991. The fans and the media (led by Sun Times writer and White Sox hater, Jay "Woman Beater" Mariotti) hammered the new stadium because of the dreadful upper deck.

The original design of the present stadium didn't have the second level of suites. JR had the design changed because he wanted the second level of suites, which in turn has ruined the stadium.

Tigers vs White Sox at Rate Field 8-11-25.
You made a comment about the attendance in St. Louis. Baseball is losing its popularity in this country. ESPN is dropping its MLB coverage after this year. ESPN then announced they bought 2 NFL stations. MLB announced that this years MLB All Star game had its highest viewership in years. It only drew 7 million people. A fraction of what it used to be. The MLB World Series TV ratings haven't been much better. I'm really worried whats going to happen if their is strike or lockout after the 2026 season.

if the Bears and White Sox owners pay for their stadiums and the government pays for the infrastructures, it will be a done deal on both accounts. I read recently that the city of Jacksonville will pay 55% of the cost of the new football stadium for the Jaguars. Obviously some view new sports stadiums as a positive.

Somebody told me once you have to work at it to be a White Sox fan. First of all there is nothing wrong with the stadium on the lower level. The upper deck is for the birds, but the lower level (where i sit ) is great. The White Sox Bar and Grill, adjacent to the park is a good place to hang out. The bars on 33rd street (Cork & Kerrys and the other places ) are good. Grandstand is within walking distance if you want White Sox stuff cheaper than the stadium. Last but not least if you like pizza Connies is a 5 minute drive from the park. That being said I hope they build the new stadium in the South Loop.

8/10 Cle at Sox
I went to last nights game and attendance was announced as over 17,000. I went to todays game and the attendance was announced as over 19,000. I think I'm a good judge of the size of crowds. It seemed to me there where more fans at last nights game and todays game. Perhaps there not announcing fans who get free tickets. All I know is that both days had bigger crowds than what was announced.

Nobody seems to be talking about this but going to a White Sox gam is much cheaper than going to a Cubs, Bears, Bulls or Blackhawks game.

8/9 Guardians @ Sox
I thought the Veeck promotion was strange. Veeck hadn't owned the team since 1980. After he sold the team he spent all of his baseball viewing at Wrigley Field. I don't think he went to one White Sox game the rest of his life after he sold the team. The White Sox promoted this event relentlessly the last few weeks which tells me most White Sox fans didn't care about Veeck. They might have had a bigger crowd if they staged a Disco Demolition Night Part 2.

8/9 Guardians @ Sox
The younger people don't know who Veeck was. The older fans weren't exactly fond of Veeck The only reason I went was because I collect the bobbleheads.

I've wondered what would have happened if Dorothy Rigney had sold to Charlie Finley instead of Veeck. Finley actually offered Rigney more money than Veeck did.

The last I read is that it would take $900 million of Tif money for the infrastructure at the 78. I don't think that type of money makes sense for 20 soccer games a year. It needs a baseball stadium at that site also to justify that type of expense.

The Future of the White Sox TV Broadcast Team
In all fairness, I don't think too many young White Sox fans know who Bill Veeck was. The advance ticket sale for tomorrows Bill Veeck night is not good.

The Dodgers moved to LA because the City of LA gave the Dodgers a great deal . They gave prime LA real estate to O'Malley for $1.00.Bill Veeck said it was a land grab on O'Malleys part. New York couldn't/wouldn't match the offer. New York did offer to build the Dodgers a stadium in Queens which they would have leased. A few years later the Mets took the same Queens offer that the Dodgers turned down.

Better franchises have moved than the White Sox. Many years ago the Brooklyn Dodgers (who were the 2nd most profitable team in MLB) moved to LA. The Cleveland Browns sold out their games forever and the team was moved to Baltimore. Both the Dodgers and Browns moved because both cities offered them better deals. I don't know how much money the next White Sox owner has. I've read different amounts. Rather than spend $1 billion on a new stadium in Chicago, could you blame him if he moved the team if some other city gave him a sweetheart deal? I would feel better about this situation if some announcement was made about the White Sox stadium situation. Even if the announcement was extending the present lease. As far as me becoming the White Sox GM. All I wanted was an interview with JR. I would have given him the most memorable interview he ever had. Maybe he would have been so impressed with me I might have been hired.

Youtube commentator Brodie Brazil has a interesting video about the White Sox maybe moving out of state to Nashville, Salt Lake City and Portland.

Some fans on this site criticize the parking at the stadium. I think its one of the best things about going to a game there. In addition JR has to be making a ton of money from the parking.

The Future of the White Sox TV Broadcast Team
I don't understand the hate for Sciffen. I think he's more than competent at what he does. It has to be difficult to some degree to announce for a team that keeps losing 100 games a year. Every now and then I watch a Cubs game. I think their main announcer (Boog Scambi) is brutal and boring. I've often wondered what the Cubs fans think of him. I read an article in the Sun Times a couple of weeks ago about Steve Stone. Evidently Stone left the Cubs on bad terms with the previous ownership. The writer said the present Cubs ownership should kiss and makeup with Stone. Sounds like a good idea and maybe Stone will go back to announce for the Cubs.
