I said C because it is hard to evaluate Getz with the owner he has. Also, we have to see how the young talent develops. I agree with ptac. Getz is trying to change the organization, and Venable is a good hire. But the rebuild is painfully slow. One off season after another is boring. And in the past, White Sox rebuilds have been a mixed bag. They will get good, even win a division, but slide back and it's time for another rebuild. Additionally, if there are injuries it makes things even harder because the team lacks depth. That's why we see guys like Sheets playing right field. (Even though I have to give Sheets credit. He tried to be a decent right fielder.) One thing the Sox have to do better is acquire and develop young talent in their own system. Then they won't have tear down and trade for other team's prospects. Yet, the team can't have off season after off season not spending at least some money. Many fans don't think the team is trying to win, and they can't be blamed for that. Getz needs to establish credibility, hard as that is with JR as the owner.

Buehrle >Wood's list is pretty good. The Wise catch was a great moment.

Not even bothering with a guess. We know it is going to be a losing season. How bad it will be is the only guess. Can't even guess when this team will even get to .500.

Before talk radio took off, and long before social media, Chicago had print reporters who actually knew about the sports they were covering. Bill Gleason, Jerome Holtzman and others acted like pros. Stopped listening to the Score a long time ago. There are exceptions when someone says something worth listening to, but those exceptions are few. Bernstein just fit in with the rest.
-
I have always thought of Bernstein as an extremely bright guy but totally obnoxious. And sometimes not as smart as he thought he was. Just put him down with other Chicago sports figures with anger management issues like Dan McNeil and Ozzie Guillen.

The largest problem with the current stadium is one that can't be fixed: the upper deck. But because the White Sox made a stupid mistake doesn't mean they should be given a new stadium. A front office that has had a team this bad for 20 years has a lot of nerve asking for a brand-new stadium. $1.7 billion? They have to be kidding.

2025-26 FA Class: How would you spend Ishbia's millions?
Highland replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Start with the front office. Get some solid baseball people running this team. I have nothing against Getz but he would have to go. Said good-bye to Schriffen and Stone. Enough of both of them. Bring on AJ in some capacity. -
Not holding my breath for any news. In the end the fans will get screwed. So, screw them.
-
It does appear he is aware he can't do what he did last year. Perhaps he can improve, but right now he and Steve Stone are two reasons I won't be watching the Sox this season.
-
As I understand it, JR will still have complete control even with Ishbia buying up more shares. If I were looking to buy this franchise, I wouldn't want JR calling the shots for an indefinite period. Regardless Ishbia will have to spend. Fans are not in the mood for another owner who is not serious about winning.

This is true to an extent, but if the Sox had a deeper fan base, the decreases in attendance would be smaller, and the team could take things better. But this team has never been interested in building a base, Instead, they would rather alienate their most loyal fans and then wonder why attendance is still a problem. 2024 was a disgrace. This rebuild is a disgrace. This FO has no credibility. This is little reason to go out to the ballpark when this team is doing next to nothing to make this team watchable.
-
No upside to this. Just another indication of what a joke this two off seasons have been. What a great rebuild.

Another meaningless move in a so-called rebuild that is going nowhere in the near future. Another lackluster offseason.

Bobby Jenks dealing with stage 4 stomach cancer
Highland replied to DoUEvenShift's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Awful news. Hope he can pull through. He is way too young for this to happen. -
There are some fans who believe that Getz is going to be a good GM, and he is bringing good baseball men into the organization. They see winning happening soon. But this can't go on. You can't have one 100-loss season after another and expect fans to have confidence in this so-called rebuild. I don't expect mega-signings but money needs to be spent. Some of these prospects will not work out and so the losing will continue. It is devastating to an organization when it loses credibility with the public, in this case the fans. Perhaps Getz can move this team along. But there has to be some tangible results, or many fans will just tune out. Credibility has been long gone.

Just like last off season. Boring. If the team avoids losing 100, it will be considered a success. When will the Sox become a respectable team? When the club gets serious about acquiring real major league talent. I am not buying into this so-called rebuild. Been through it before. Even if there is success, it doesn't last long.
-
Now he's the Angels' problem.
-
Of course, this no surprise. Hard to say when this team will have a real chance at the post season even in a diluted system.

Rays even manage to outpayroll Sox now with HaSeong Kim deal

I do give credit to Getz for doing the best under the circumstances. And perhaps the rebuild will work, but it is going to take a hell of a long time. But even if the rebuild works, the team will have to spend on free agents or spend through trades. No team builds a winner on young players only. In better days, Bill Veeck did leave a corp of developing talent. Then Reinsdorf and Einhorn added proven veterans. Luzinski, Fisk, Bannister, Koosman. Now they had a ball club. The result was 99 wins in 1983. It was a team that should have won the World Series. The losing has not been a recent development. Since winning the division in 2008, this team has had almost no success. I don't have great confidence at the moment. And even if the winning eventually starts, I think this tanking is absurd. You don't have to be this bad to be good. The team should, at least, avoid losing 100 games. -
What the Sox don't seem to realize is that they are not losing so-called "fair weather fans." They are losing some of their most loyal fans. And if that is truly happening, what do you have left? Denial is strong over there.

Getz: "We are... building from the ground, up"
Highland replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No, a team doesn't have to be a laughingstock when it is a rebuilding. A veteran presence is still needed although the veterans last year didn't show much leadership. Regardless, last season was the worst baseball I have ever seen, and fans shouldn't have to put up with that. Some fans on the board are attempting to guess when the Sox will be a good team. I can't see how anyone can do that. That makes it hard to be a fan. I have nothing against Getz but I ignore most of what he says. -
What I would like to see is a better attitude. The team still may lose 100 games, and I don't want to see Robert use that as an excuse to not put out an effort. That is not even in his best interest.
