  1. This is not my point. If the Sox actually had some talent on this team, Cease and Crochet at the top of the rotation would be a real weapon. But the Sox don't want to pay either one. And if a franchise doesn't pay for real talent, it never becomes a winner. Trading for prospects gets old. Some prospects never pan out. Some do well but take a long time to develop. Every time the Sox get someone half-way decent, there is a speculation about flipping him. Well, the Sox flipped people last year, and they lost 121 games. A fan can't expect this team to be turned around in one season. But if the club doesn't spend some money to get some talent to make the team a little better, there is no reason to go out to the ballpark to watch what is essentially a minor league team. To hell with rebuilding and trading for prospects. If a franchise isn't willing to keep talent like Cease and Crochet, it isn't serious about winning and it will be rebuilding forever. This team is years away from even being a .500 team. It may never be a .500 team. I could care less about prospects that may never be quality major league players. Meanwhile, we have another 100-loss season to look forward to.
  2. Think about this: Cease and Crochet at the top of the White Sox rotation.
  3. Thanks for interest, but it is out of print. Melton gave me a great interview. Talked about when he won the HR championship on the last day of the 1971 season. Didn't even remember when he hit a home run in each game of an opening day double header in that same year. Was also gracious to fans at Sox Fest. He will be missed. Have a book on the 2005 team coming out in the spring.
  4. Great guy. Provided a lot of great memories. I remember many of his upper deck home runs and his great opening day of 1971. Interviewed him for a book I was doing in 2000. Very open and honest. One of my all time favorite Sox players. Sad day but the memories are great. Will always remember him.
  5. Looks like a repeat of last offseason and more loss of credibility. Is this a major league franchise?
  6. I doubt the shareholders care all that much. The Sox have been on the downslide since winning the WS. in 2013, when the team was on its way to its worst season in over 40 years, board members were saying "let Jerry handle things." Well, he is still handling things and another 100-loss season is coming.
  7. In essence, the Sox have been rebuilding since winning the division in 08. Tried a number of things and they haven't worked. The most frustrating thing about the rebuild is they actually picked up some real young talent, but things still didn't work out. I don't have any idea what their strategy is now other than slashing the payroll.
  8. I do think Getz is attempting to bring good baseball men into the organization. But if a team is going to truly contend, it can't stay in the rebuild mode forever. And that is the problem. JR doesn't want to spend on free agents and there is nothing Getz can do about that. I don't know what the plans are for this off season, but this team, as of now, of on its way to another awful season.
  9. The Sox are not getting much for Robert right now, and they certainly won't get anything close to a "haul." Trading him for prospects? Really? You don't have a major league roster now. To hell with prospects already. A lot of them end up stinking up the place anyway. Screw the prospects.
  10. Sox Fest used to be a good event. This is a joke.
  11. Rushing a player to the big leagues is something that the Sox have done for years. Hasn't worked. Glad the player has ambition, but he has to prove he is ready.
  12. Maybe the Sox would have a deeper fan base if the actually tried to build one. And Cub fans? They're idiots.
  13. What Dick Allen said and then some. Right now, all JR cares about is a new stadium and his new TV network. Building a winning team? Not so much. And all this nonsense about "being open to selling"? That was nothing but crap. When will the team be a contender? No one knows and that includes the White Sox. Fans are being scammed as always. What a joke.
  14. No, keep Crochet and try to build around him. Trading him seems to me like constant rebuilding that leads nowhere. Are they trading him to get value or are they trading him to save money? In the future how many more budget moves are made while the team goes nowhere. Sorry, I've been a fan for a long time and have had enough of rebuilding. This team should be keeping and developing talent instead of trading it away. I will not assume that they will get a good return.
  15. Allen was scarred by his experience in Arkansas. He is still the most talented player I had ever seen play on the White Sox. He had his issues and under-achieved. I think he enjoyed his experience in Chicago. He really should have a better career.
  16. On the surface, this doesn't make sense: Trading a great talent with little guarantee the team will get a good value in return. There is nothing like a rebuild. How did that last one go?
  17. No fan has seen a home run until he/she sees a Dick Allen home run.
  18. Getz supporters are saying he is slowly bringing in good baseball people into the organization. He then believes that the organization will acquire and develop talent. He keeps warning fans that it will take a long time. When will the team contend for something? One can only guess but expectations are low for the immediate future. I am one that believes a manager is important. And so is the remaining franchise infrastructure. Bringing in knowledgeable baseball people can only help after years of incompetence. But money still has to be spent, and free agency cannot be ignored. The team has to at least show some kind of progress. Promising a great future while losing 100 games will get old. Just what is the 2025 roster going to look like?
  19. No need to worry. Like the Sox, the Bears are rebuilding. They will return to the Super Bowl when the Sox return to the World Series. Each will have a new stadium.
  20. At one time, the Sox had a talented group of young players consisting of Robert, Eloy, Cease, Kopech, and Moncada. Four are no longer with the team, and in reality, only one lived up to expectations. I wonder if the FO ever asked itself what happened. But don't worry. Another 100-loss season is on the way. Perhaps two.
  21. Considering the White Sox have been rebuilding for a long time, I found the "no shortcuts" line condescending.

Hopefully not on the White Sox. The team already has enough problems.
