At least they hired someone with no connection to the White Sox and a man who has a good resume. Change has to start somewhere. A winning team? We don't know when that will happen. I'd feel even better if JR lets Getz build this team even with recent results. No Tony LaRussa or other weird controlling behind the scenes. It appears that Venable is a good man.

I won't be watching the Sox on TV next season. I refuse to listen to those two fools in the broadcast booth.

I thought when Vaughn first came here, he would develop into a solid hitter. Hasn't happened. Time to move on from him and Sheets.
-
Then Jerry and other business people can do the developing. Many times stadiums do nothing to develop a neighborhood. JR has had one free stadium. He doesn't deserve another. A businessman shouldn't be rewarded like this when he has run his business into the ground. If he wants help from the state, he needs to put up some real money. And then show a real effort to put a team together. He shouldn't get a new stadium for a team that loses 100 games. This isn't about developing a neighborhood. This is about JR making himself richer than he already is.

This franchise has lost 222 games in the last two years. Why should it be given any public funds with this record?

Jerry Reinsdorf open to selling the White Sox per Britt Ghiroli

The 2000s were great. The team had a lot of talent, and they actually won something. But everything fell apart after that. Ozzie did his disappearing act in 2011 when they should have fired his ass. Then there was the strange hiring of Robin Ventura who looked clueless. Things only worsened since then. Hard to believe how far this franchise has fallen. And it can't get up. -
Good to see no wild card making it to the Series.

Jerry Reinsdorf open to selling the White Sox per Britt Ghiroli

Usually, when a public figure leaks something to the media, he wants to accomplishment something. I don't know what JR wanted to accomplish, because I am no mind reader. However, as usual, he did more to hurt his and his organization's credibility than anything else. When there is no sale and no move, it will become obvious this was a BS move. And if JR thought the idea of a move will help him gain leverage for his new stadium, he's living in the 1980s. Like I said, this was a joke. So, when Chris Getz tells us he is on the right rebuilding track, I won't believe him. Hey Chris, how is the sale of the team going? -

Is this a really good time for the Stewart group to buy the Sox? The team is in horrible shape. There is no stadium in Nashville if they want to move. A new stadium in Chicago isn't happening, at least for now. Other than using Nashville for leverage, I don't see why this story was leaked to the media. Don't know what Reinsdorf is trying to accomplish with this. -

It is hard being a White Sox fan. I don't see the team improving that much. Contention is a long time away. JR only cares about his new stadium and television network. Forget the team. -

Since when have the Sox had a good backup plan? This is nothing but another fiasco further ruining the team's credibility. They just lost 121 games. Improve the damn team. -

This is a good question. And how would a new Sox ownership operate in Chicago with the fans thinking or knowing the team is going to be moved to Tennessee as soon as a stadium is built? The situation would be worse than Oakland giving MLB a huge black eye. If this is nothing but a ploy, JR is hitting a new low. `Instead of speculating about some new players coming in to rebuild a sick team, we're talking about this nonsense. This is getting more than tiresome. This franchise is barely existing. -
Even with his faults, he's a hell of a lot better than Schriffen. I can't listen to Schriffen.

What Tray said and then some. For so long this organization had been on auto pilot, and it floundered. It used to be that the team had some talent even when it didn't go to playoffs. It reached the point where the club had next to nothing. The 2010s was the first decade since the Seventies when the Sox didn't go to the post season at least once. And back in the Seventies, there were no such things as wild cards. A team had to win their division, and had to be a solid team, not some 80-win anybody. Finally, in the Seventies, the ownership had no money and were lucky to put a team on the field. Getz apologists say he is trying to rebuild the organization's infrastructure. Maybe he is. But there's no excuse for putting a minor league team on the field. I don't expect the Sox to go to the post season any year soon. But they should at least put a credible team on the field. How about 75 wins? The organization has sunk to new depths. Empty promises won't win anyone over. Schriffen certainly won't win anyone over with his totally unbelievable BS. Stone Poney can take a hike, too.

I agree. Sheets has had plenty of opportunities. I think he has tried hard to improve himself, but the ability just isn't there. Vaughn is a disappointment, too, since he was so highly rated as a hitter during the draft. The least the Sox can do is make an attempt to get some offense on this team. One way is to get Sheets out of the lineup. Either improve the offense or look forward to another 100-loss season.

What are you looking forward to this off season
Highland replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Actually, I am already disappointed. I don't expect anything, but I would like a team that develops a winning tradition. -

I am not looking forward to anything. I have no expectations. None whatsoever. -
The last six games does not wipe out the memory of the previous 156. 80 games under .500 is amazingly bad.

Spare us the words. Spend some money.

Schriffen is no dummy, but I doubt that he will figure things out. I didn't see any improvement. I finally stopped watching. It was the combination of a bad team and its play-by-play guy insulting our intelligence by trying to sell an awful club. He also needs to learn more about White Sox history because he knows nothing about it.
-
When I hear the "patience" line, I take it that the Sox are going the cheap way. Getz said he doesn't want to do shortcuts, but the biggest problem is that he doesn't have a major league lineup. This team just isn't competitive, and another 100-loss season is on the way. Hard to be patient. The franchise is in horrible shape. Any kind of talk won't do it. The organization is plain out-of-touch and tone deaf. But they have a great play-by-play man!

So much for knocking the Tigers out of the playoffs.
