2024 was the first time in over 40 years that I didn't attend a Sox game. It wasn't a form of protest; I just thought the team was not watchable, and I was not going to waste money on them. I stopped watching on TV as well. The team was just bad, and the play by play was worse. I know that fans not attending games does not affect Jerry Reinsdorf. But why should I go when the FO is making feeble attempts to build a winning team? I am not miserable, but I am disappointed. The team continues to sink to new lows. There has been a huge disconnect between the fans and this team for a long time. JR has never understood Sox fans. At this point in his life, he never will. I remember JR coming to Sox Fest and actually talking to the fans. If I had been at SoxFest, I wouldn't have yelled at him. I think it is a real shame there is no relationship between the owner and the fan. Perhaps there never was one, and that has been a big problem forever. You just can't demand fans attend games. You have to do something to get them there.

Getz: "We are... building from the ground, up"
Highland replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The problem I have with the JR style of rebuiding is he feels he has to strip the team to the bare bones in the process. Tanking is absurd and now team had the worst season in MLB history. In the late 1990s, the Sox could have brought up young players without that stupid White Flag Trade. I don't expect a contender for a while, but there is no excuse for a 121-loss season. And now it looks like another 100-loss season is on the way. -
There were only five from the 05 team who came to SoxFest for the 10th anniversary. Ozzie wasn't even in the country.

Tim Anderson agrees to minors deal with LAA
Highland replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I was always concerned about Tim. I am not one who goes for theatrics. Competing at the major league level is serious business. A player needs to be serious about it. -
Game times announced. 6:40 is the new standard start
Highland replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Not a bad idea, but it doesn't matter to me. I'm not going. They can keep their 100-loss seasons. -
A great baseball man and a real decent man. A big loss for the Sox and their fans.

I have some big-time issues with the Chicago sports media. It is very clannish. But Schriffen is awful. And he is not going to improve.

A funny guy who did a lot for baseball. Left behind some great memories.

As the 2023 season ended with 101 losses, JR didn't talk about improving the team. Instead, he went to Springfield to lobby for a new stadium. The result? A record setting 121-loss season in 2024 with another 100-loss season in the 20th anniversary of the only World Series championship in 108 years. Conservatives like JR preach about people "pulling themselves by their bootstraps." No government handouts. But there is JR with a handout for an obscene amount of money. Instead of the team improving, it worsens. Getz supporters say he will eventually turn the team into a winner. But until that happens, Getz and the White Sox will have no credibility. I've been a Sox fan for a long time. I don't listen to promises anymore, and JR can build his own stadium.

I know that throwing money around doesn't necessarily solve problems, but I'm tired of hearing the rebuilding excuse for fielding an awful team. The Sox were rebuilding in the late 1990s, but they had young talent like Carlos Lee and Magglio Ordonez. I see no such talent on this team. I've heard the rebuilding promises many times. I tune that out now. It's team to act like a major league franchise. I won't go to the ballpark until the White Sox stop the 100-loss seasons.
-
I agree. Sox rebuilds have had some success, but since 2008 the franchise has floundered. And 121 losses is not showing any progress. Things don't seem right. The team has a detached CEO and a GM who knows he will have little financial backing. We fans can't expect much for the next two seasons at least. Is there any reason to be optimistic? There is some hope, but I have almost no expectations. It is pretty bad when fans think 70 wins is a good season. Real success seems so far away.

There are some fans who think that Getz does have a viable plan. Like TImmy U wrote, it isn't sexy. The real rebuild is rebuilding the infrastructure. Getz fans say he is getting rid of the incompetents who dragged the team down for the last 20 years. He then is replacing them with good baseball men who know more than he does. One drawback is that Getz has a CEO who doesn't want to spend. No matter how anyone rebuilds a team, eventually real money has to be spent. Young teams don't win championships. One more drawback is that older fans won't have patience and will be skeptical of the whole process. They've the rebuild stories before. And the Sox have been bad for too long. Perhaps Getz will succeed. Maybe he is smarter than we think. It is just hard to put up with more 100-loss seasons.

Only three from the World Series is a shame, but it is not surprising. I would never expect Ozzie come, 2005 is fading away. Of course, younger fans know nothing about it. The record losing season is overshadowing everything.

At one time, the Sox at least had some talented players. For some reason, they didn't go the post season all that often, but there were times they could provide some entertainment. But since 2008, they have been a complete disaster. There is little reason to the ballpark to watch this team. When this will change is anyone's guess. You have to go back to the 1970s to see a team this bad. It is amazing to see how this FO continues to let this team reach new lows.
-
The Sox have some pitching, but I don't see that many position players in this so-called rebuild. We have at least two more losing seasons ahead of us. It appears that Getz is trying to bring some good baseball men into the organization, but progress is slow. The team eventually has to invest in the free agent market. In the long run, the cheap plan is not going to work.

You can't have disappointments if you don't have expectations. Same for the White Sox.
-
The White Sox made two blunders regarding the broadcast booth. The first was obvious: Hiring Schriffen. The second was keeping fan-hating Steve Stone for another year. It doesn't get any worse than this.
-
I don't know anything about these four players, but all I've heard is that this is a good trade. Also, I think Getz is doing the best he can under the circumstances. But the fact remains this is a last place team and will remain so for a while.

This quote is significant. It just demonstrates that any threat to move made by the White Sox can be ignored. So, no new stadium unless the Sox pay for it.

The 2024 Bears are like the 2024 White Sox: Not watchable.
-
Looking at Allen's career stats, one can make the case he's not a Hall of Famer. But if you actually saw him play, you would say different. As I have said before, you haven't seen a home run until you see a Dick Allen home run.
-
The most talented player to put on a White Sox uniform. Dick Allen could do it all and do it better than anyone else.

Many people fell asleep listening to Bob Elson. I remember watching Chanel 32. They had a hard time following the flight of the ball. They'd show the center fielder when the left fielder was making the catch. Otherwise, Comiskey Park was empty and the Sox were getting their ass kicked on a regular basis. Brings tears to my eyes. Ah, the memories.

Bears offensive game plan: Get in third and long situation. Get QB sacked. Then, of course, punt. Go to the bench and watch your defense let opposition run up the score. At post-game press conference, have coach look and act stupid. End up last in division.
