  1. The decisions are expected, but the timing also gives it the air of a cathartic scapegoating w/o Hahn and upper management taking responsibility. GM Hahn was also responsible for not fortifying the staring pitching, picking up Mazara , Encarcion and then staying with them all season . Where was Hahn all season? He said nothing to Renteria? He stuck Coop with 2 starters? Come on Rick, take some responsibility. Renteria had to go and so did Coop, but personnel decisions were not exclusively in their domain.
  2. After listening to the podcast with Stone (where Stone laid Renteria's shit bare) I don't see any way the Sox bring back Renteria. I would not want Getz promoted if that is what their thinking is. Getz reminds me of Ventura in some ways.
  3. If anyone thinks Hahn is under pressure consider the Yankees situation: "Not even the addition of ace Gerrit Cole for a $324 million, nine-year contract was enough to make the difference. Now general manager Brian Cashman faces a series of key decisions. Big league batting champion DJ LeMahieu is eligible for free agency along with pitchers Masahiro Tanaka and James Paxton. New York has a $17 million option on pitcher J.A. Happ the team made sure would not become guaranteed and a $10 million option on 37-year-old outfielder Brett Gardner, the last link to the Yankees’ 2009 champions. Giancarlo Stanton is expected to keep the remaining $218 million and seven guaranteed seasons left in his contract rather than opt out, and reliever Zack Britton appears likely to stay under either player or club options. " Despite an $84 million payroll as adjusted for the shortened season, third-highest in the major leagues, the Yankees lost to the $29 million Rays, a team whose spending was third from bottom. Tampa Bay beat the Yankees eight of 10 times during the regular season,..." https://www.pantagraph.com/sports/baseball/professional/disgusted-and-dismayed-yanks-face-big-decisions-for-2021/article_68f0ff30-ae99-5dd1-93d1-60e8002b2e56.html Giancarlo Stanton is expected to keep the remaining $218 million and seven guaranteed seasons left in his contract rather than opt out, and reliever Zack Britton appears likely to stay under either player or club options.
  4. Realistically, Ricketts will open up father Joe's fat wallet (filled with unlimited Ameritrade profits) and pay Theo some exorbitant unprecedented salary. KW stays as long as JR owns the team and that means no Ozzie.
  5. I would like to see JR secretly interview Theo to see if he would be interested in taking KW's gig . Then Theo could fire Renteria and replace him, again..
  6. I don't think Vaughn is a prototypical first basemen, unless one considers Prince Fielder to be the prototype. Vaughn has some hefty thunder thighs, short arms and short legs. Definitely not the body type that one would consider to be best suited for 1B. Catcher or DH perhaps.
  7. Agree with Dominikk. Getz thinks he can play 1st base: "Andrew hits the ball from pole to pole, consistently has good, quality at-bats, works deep counts and always squares up pitches," Chicago farm director Chris Getz said. "He's a combination of hitting and power. There wasn't too much of a focus on things he needed to improve offensively at the alternative site. It was more a focus of facing upper-level quality pitching and on a daily basis. We moved him around from first base to third base to the outfield to build some athleticism and keep his feet moving. At the end of the day, it's more about the bat and just finding a home for him. He can play first base." Vaughn might win a spot on the roster during Spring Training
  8. Eloy is my favorite player because of his positive attitude, his demeanor, and his appreciation for key moments in a game where he excels at serving up dramatic game winning hits and home runs. Add to that the fact that he is the Cub Killer, and he loves loves that role.
  9. That plus the Sox letting harry Carey go to the North Side and the foolishness of the Veeck's who believed that the only way to draw fans was to make a circus out of things. The attendance at games is not necessarily an indicator of the percentage of fans in Chicago and the suburbs. There is no doubt the White Sox have made some major leaps in fan interest since 2005 and especially in the last two years. Moving forward the impact of covid-19 may well impact fan attendance at professional sports venues for several years. Now that people understand that droplets and aerosol can carry any number of infectious bacteria and viruses, it may be several years before people cram into bars and stadiums in the same numbers as they did previously.
  10. Words of wisdom and experience. Having said that, I think most of us expect tho hear that he will need TJS. I dream of Kopech and Crochet dealing at the top of our rotation, or one or the other at the end of our bullpen of Closing. We need a break when it comes to injuries in 2021 so the Sox can have everyone aboard and make a run.

    McCann

I think letting the zMcCann thing go for now is a good idea. Let's see what the Sox actually do with McCann and then comment. As to Vaughn, let's stop projecting him at 1B or in the outfield until we see him play more next Spring. Did I see him run? Yes, he scored from first on a gapper. Did you see that? The Sox bench were laughing their asses off.
  12. I think RR deserves to be fired. Will they do it? I don't know. I would be fine with Ozzie but I doubt the Sox will hire him. It is hard for people to let go of old grudges. Not sure who would take over but maybe Big Frank would agree to do it.
  13. Dude, why not respond with some text? Looks like you have the proverbial carmine derrier. ?
  14. Mazara and Collins for Benintendi. Resign McCann. Sign Bauer Bring up Vaughn as DH and let let's see what he can do. Leury and Engel stay. Maybe Dyson as well. Renteria gets replaced.
  15. What's with the sports savant shit? My opinion is based on common sense and my own experience with sports injuries. Several games back, Eloy hit first base awkwardly and hopped around to take weight off it after he passed the bag.. He was trying to walk the pain off and wincing. Renteria then came out to talk to him. After a brief discussion Renteria decided to leave him in rather than opting for a pinch runner. . Eloy then had to run the bases hard. He came up lame and had to leave the game. Eloy re-injured the same ankle a few games later. The re-injured ankle caused him to miss most of the play-off series. Fuk Renteria. He makes bad decisions left and right. I hope they can him.

    McCann

I don't think Vaughn is "serviceable" replacement for Jose Abreu or Grandal at 1B. He is short, lacks reach and has not demonstrated that he can pick the ball out of the dirt on short hops. At this point. he looks like DH, and no one would have a problem with that if he proves that he can rake. EE is probably gone so that roster spot will be open.

    McCann

OK, as a counterpoint, link us a video of Vaughn playing D or running the bases. I am not suggesting he will never play 1b/3B or outfield at a major league level nor have I read that coaches believe he is ready to play one of those positions in the majors. I just want to see the evidence that cause some to project him at any position on the field.
  18. tray

    McCann

I then questioned where Vaughn would play Vaughn has not proven that he can play defense at any position at a major league level. He is a tank that lacks the speed required to be an outfielder and the flexibility/reach required at 1B/3B. He is a RH version of Jake Burgur...a possible DH, but not a position player. If Vaughn can hit well enough to be a full time DH, he will be added to the roster to fill EE's spot. Then the issue will be whether Collins/Grandal can perform better offensively and defensively than the tandem of Grandal/Collins, Stated another way, are the WSox willing to replace productive and proven veteran players with prospects on a team that is in their competitive window.
  19. Mindful of the following caveat: "2. Anything politicians do concerning coronavirus is fair game. The Biden / Trump mask on Memorial Day story is fair game, legislation discussed is fair game, racial disparities in the handling/impact of coronavirus are fair game. " what are the parameters for discussing Trump's Covid-19 infection ? This is a huge story that potentially impacts all Americans. Would a separate thread be advisable?
  20. "Sox having a 72.4% win probability after Laureano struck out in the bottom of the 4th. " Which is bulshit given the fact that 5 innings were left against a team that was starting to hit in their home ballpark and Crochet and Bummer were already used.
  21. Renteria did not take Eloy out after he initially injured his ankle stepping on first base. Eloy probably aggravated that injury when he ran the bases following that. Renteria made a farce out of the last game with his foolhardy decisions, like issuing an intentional walk in the midst of a 5 walk inning. I can't focus all of my ire toward Renteria though. Keuchel had a terrible game 2 which allowed Oakland back in the series. Michael Kopech also has to be mentioned. Game 3 could have been his game. He let the team and White Sox fans down because he could not get his own affairs in order.
  22. I think they will fire Renteria and I hope they do.
  23. FWIW I looked at the video of Crochet leaving the mound and he did not appear to be in pain. Not sure that means anything but I thought i would mention it
  24. My guess is that jerk will be asymptomatic. He will then go out and claim that it is no big deal, he has great genes, no problem, who needs masks, etc.
