  1. Age is much less of a factor for a DH. Nelson Cruz hit bombs into his late 30's. Mercedes Benz have been known to last longer than American made vehicles.
  2. Yermin: Something that looks like it is too good to be true probably isn't. Is that the case with what we are seeing from Yermin? Has Yermin ever hit baseballs 485 feet and pounded out hits at a .500 clip before...at any level? If so, how did he fly under the radar of mlb scouts? If Yermin can hit anything like he has, he is the Sox DH, at least for this season. Vaughn: It's too early to tell if he will be all he was cracked up to be. He has power, but can he also hit for a decent average against major league pitching? Will he make the adjustments necessary after he gets scouted and pitchers try to exploit any holes in his swing? Defensively, he can handle 1B but that is it. Not sure there will be a place for him on the roster if things continue so positively for Yerminator and Collins. Vaughn would have to do what those two guys did to get regular playing time - prove he deserves it. Left field : Whatever and whoever until Engel returns. I am holding out some hope that Eloy makes it back before the end of the season. That would be an incredible boost to the team. Madrigal: I think he has not fully recovered from Left shoulder surgery. Ptac would know better as a pro trainer about how long it takes to build back muscle after that operation and whether muscle memory can be impacted. I think he will work out if the Sox have patience with him .
  3. It is a guy out here in the suburbs who was running for Mayor, but will remain nameless.
  4. I love that a certain candidate lost his election. So what? It has nothing to do with baseball.
  5. I guess a few placed laugh emoticons on that. Tell me why. Have some balls.
  6. Vaughn was on the roster because the Sox needed to try to replace some of Eloys power and hitting. If Mercedes keeps hitting and Vaughn struggles, or if Engel hits when he returns, then we may see Vaughn gawn until September.
  7. I thought politics was not a proper topic here. If it is let me know and I will respond.
  8. LaRussa needs to keep Vaughn out of LF if he can, and he knows that.
  9. Here we go again. If this game has to be delayed more than 2 hours, maybe call the thing.
  10. Maybe you should have been a teacher. They usually get off around 3 as I recall. I have a lot of friends who were teachers and early retired at 55. Some moved to Florida and AZ but the ones who still live here in the Chicago area are always available, it seems, to attend games.
  11. What Boyer said is a joke. Ask people who went to the 2018 and 2019 Openers. It wasn't long ago that Brooks and the Sox management allowed fans to wait on a rainy day for well over an hour (maybe longer tha two hours as I seem to recall) before calling the game while they collected Beer money from them. I have been to over 30 Openers and that was even worse than the Snowpener. I have no issue with them trying to get the game in, but do it in a reasonable way. Don't make rain-soaked people wait all day out there.
  12. Yes, I believe that was, the year after the snOwpener. What the Sox management did was inexcusable. After several hours of selling beer and concessions, the Sox announced that the game was postponed. Went the next day and got soaked again, but they got the game in. No way an I going today. I sold my tickets last night because I did not want to go through the Opening Day rain game situation again.
  13. Tony should have had Bummer warming up, but with the three batter minimum rule, that decision was delayed. That was a mistake andI think Katz was partially responsible for it.
  14. Misplays by Madrigal, Vaughn and Collins in one inning....so far.
  15. Vaughn boots one. That was Eloy ugly.
  16. Vaughn made that catch at the wall yesterday but it looked pretty shaky. I don't know about you guys but I will still be holding my breath every time a ball gets hit to Vaughn out there.
  17. FWIW, Gameday line-up has Collins catching tonight , Vaughn in LF and Yermin DHing.
  18. I wonder who owns all of the parking lots around the stadium. The Sox have added parking over the years and there is more land in the neighborhood that they can still probably acquire at reasonable cost as Bridgeport continues to gentrify and the South Loop - Halsted corridor continues to improve. I would like the Sox purchase the small housing development to the South or possibly construct new housing in the area and arrange a swap for it.
  19. Sox have not produced much offense in the 3 L's so that will likely impact how TLaR makes his line-up. Yermin is hot so he will stay with him as DH . Perhaps Vaughn in LF with Hamilton as a late inning replacement. The loss of Eloy took part f the heart and soul out of this line-up. Luis Robert needs to take every pitch that is middle out. He needs to hunt pitches that he can hit and just give the pitchers the outer half.
  20. I have not seen an update about Eloy post-surgey, i.e., the standard line that surgery went well and he is recovering well.
  21. Listen, pitch calling is minimally the responsibility of the Manager and Pitching coach. That is the responsibility of the pitcher and catcher. They should study and respect scouting reports. However, a glaring mistake should have been called out so that it would not be repeated, but it was, and it cost the game.
  22. LaRussa can't call every pitch and he doesn't hit. I was wondering why Grandal called for a fastball on 2-0 count to Jared Walsh who kills fast balls, especially from a RH pitcher. OK, that was a mistake, but then he makes the same mistake on another 2-0 count to Walsh and he hits the walk-off home run. So Walsh gets flat fastballs served up by Sox pitchers but Luis Robert gets nothing but dirty sliders low and outside. Maybe Collins or Mercedes can call a better game.
  23. Matt Vasgersian kept referring to the White Sox as one of the heavyweights in the AL, right up with the Yankees as favorites to go the the World Series. They aren't, especially after the loss of Eloy.
  24. Tim looked like he pulled a hamstring.
