Predict the 2017 Opening Day Roster
QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 03:16 PM) And you know this...how? My opinion which is shared by a lot of people, including Ron Fowler, the Padres Executive Chairman. http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-white-so...itical-comments Oh, did you watch any of Shields starts for the White Sox last season or his start on Spring Training yesterday or his interview after that? http://www.csnchicago.com/video/shields-i-...ht-i-was-decent There is a train of thought that the Sox should lose as many games as possible. Even for those who subscribe to that theory of rebuilding, you do not want to burn up the arms of our pitching staff covering for this guy and you never want to field players that look like they aren't giving maximum effort, or sloughing off questions after poor performance. He's gotta go, at least in my opinion. Let's agree to disagree and see how this works out one way or another.

Could the White Sox be better this year?
Sox were not very good last year so it is not going to far out on a limb to suggest that they might be better this year. If you just look at the 2016 Opening Day roster it is not hard to imagine that, even without Sale and Eaton, this team could be somewhat of an improvement. There have been a lot of additions by subtraction off of that 2016 roster: John Danks, Matt Latos, Matt Albers, Austin Jackson (given that he did not play most of the year), Jimmy Rollins, Brett Lawrie... And Robertson, who blew a lot of critical leads and games will likely be traded before too long.

Predict the 2017 Opening Day Roster
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 7, 2017 -> 02:56 PM) They are not going to cut Shields, no matter how bad he is this season Sox still owe him about $10 million this year and next and are not going to flush $20 million down the drain while rebuilding. He needs to eat innings. You missed the point. Shields is not an innings eater. It is exactly the opposite. And he doesn't really want to pitch any more. You cannot have a loser like that on the mound and expect to sell tickets. Even John Danks was trying to win every game he pitched in. Shields has to go. The sooner better....and that has nothing to do with rebuilding.

Predict the 2017 Opening Day Roster
Shields may be cut before Opening Day. It almost looks like he is intentionally pitching poorly so he can get an early paid retirement. It is really hard to watch his nonchalant attitude and lack of competitive demeanor. That is what the Padres Owner got angry with him about in the first place. No way should the Sox have traded for him. So please, go ahead and cut Shields. That would actually help the pitching staff by not having to cover the remaining innings in games where he gets the hook early. Quntana, Rodon, Miguel Gonzales, Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer, and Holland (and maybe others) are all better options than Shields for the starting rotation. And unlike Shields, every one of them truly wants to win every game they pitch. The Sox made a mistake last season by having John Danks in the rotation to start the season because they were reticient to cut a guy they owed millions of dollars to. So they eventually had to cut him and pay him, but Danks left us with several losses to boot, including the Opening Day loss. Don't make the same mistake. Bite the bullet, eat his salary, and release him.

Red Sox acquire Chris Sale, White Sox get Moncada+
I would have preferred Benentendi and Devers to Moncada and Kopech based on what the team needs.

White Sox Request Waivers on Lawrie
QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 02:50 PM) Remember he is ONLY 21. I guess I was expecting the immediate impact of a hitter like Benintendi for Chris Sale. I am not concluding that Moncada was over hyped but I am starting to wonder if he will turn out to be as good of a player as his rating as a number the number one prospect in baseball. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/red_sox...ying_to_be_more

White Sox Request Waivers on Lawrie
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 02:12 PM) Based off of what? 9 spring training at bats? Yes.
-
White Sox Request Waivers on Lawrie
Mncada appears to be further away from becoming a starting player in the majors than I imagined.
-
3/2 vs Giants
I wonder what people who have had the luxury of watching the games this far in ST think of Moncada's defense (catching and throwing) as a second basemen.

Avisail Garcia: Make or Break Year
This may be a make or break Spring Training for Avi like a lot of other players. I found it interesting that Avi was listed as DH and not among the outfielders on http://m.whitesox.mlb.com/roster

Pedro Alvarez
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 1, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) lol wut This is one of the most logically backward posts I've ever read. "Logically backwards? " LOL.
-
Pedro Alvarez
One cannot want the team to tank but then suggest signing a washed up player as a LH DH because the line-up lacks power. The sooner Collins and Moncada are brought up, the sooner they start getting the experience they need. Minor league experience is overrated and can be counterproductive to players who can get too comfortable there and accustomed to lower expectations and an inferior level of competition. Collins can catch a few games here and there and get major league at bats as a platoon LH DH or pinch hitter. Moncada can share time with Saladino. The rebuilding process involves trading veteran players and bringing up the top prospects to see if they can compote at this level and to gain major league experience.
-
Pedro Alvarez
Brent Lawrie should try to play Left field , otherwise he will have a tough time making the 25 man roster.
-
Pedro Alvarez
Zack Colliins, as a Left handed DH and third string catcher would make some sense. Matt Davidson as a Right Handed DH second string third basemen might also make some sense.
-
Lopez and Kopech Starting Tomorrow 2/28
If fans are this sensitive to losing a meaningless ST game like this, how wilt they tolerate a long term rebuild? I just have the Sox logo on the webcast link. No picture or sound.

Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Feb 27, 2017 -> 09:37 AM) Roberts may think that way but the agent 's commisson is based on the bid. You are right but neither Roberts nor his agent are here for one transaction. If he makes it on the Whte Sox as a starting outfielder, which is probably more likely than it would be on almost any other team, He will be paid well, and he will be welcomed, as I mentioned, on a team already set up to make Cuban players comfortable. I'm just trying to be positive if you don't mind.
-
Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal
I am hoping the Roberts and his agent chose to sign with the White Sox even if they do not place the highest bid under whatever rules are in place. I am hoping that Moncada, Abreu and a Spanish speaking Manager will be factors as well as the fact that he has little to no competition from anyone in the Sox system for a starting position in the outfield. Do whatever possible to get him. This rebuild needs some good news.

Robertson to WASH was close, now at stalemate
The White Sox need outfielders. Any trades that involve Quintana, Robertson or Frazier should be focused on getting the best outfielder(s) possible in return. I would want an outfielder in the top 100 or close to that for Robertson and an outfielder in or near the top 10 for Quintana. The Nats need to see what kind of pitcher they can get for Severino from other teams. Good luck with that.

Spring Training Broadcast Schedule
I have it from the Offical White Sox page: http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/schedule/?...alendar=DEFAULT

Robertson to WASH was close, now at stalemate
Washington does not have a catching prospect ranked in the top ten. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/213808058/20...hing-prospects/ Anyway, Hahn is more interested in obtaining outfielders so perhaps Robertson will be traded to another team.
-
Robertson to WASH was close, now at stalemate
Teams that are going for it make trades in large measure based on what they need to have. The greater and more imminent that need is, the more they will give up in return. If the Nat's relief core starts blowing games they may have to cough up Robles for a reliever or relievers. Well OK, Robertson plus Nate Jones won't be enough to get Robles, but if the Nats get desperate for a Closer, they are going to have to unload talent to some team at some point, especially if they want a Closer that is ranked higher than Robertson. It's their problem, not Rick Hahn's. He already schtooped them. If they want it again, call Rick.

Frazier Trade Discussion
They have no reason to give up a very talented prospect unless the player they are getting is younger and/or under team control for a while. Todd Frazier does not fit that bill. If Sandoval falters, they'll have interest in Frazier, but they're not spending a lot on him. I am not following your logic. The Red Sox are in it to win it this year. Why would they want an unproven third basemen like Devers on a team like that instead of a guy like Frazier that could be a monster in Fenway? Also, Dombrowski has never been shy to spend money when he thinks hsi team is getting close to a championship run. "Devers is probably a 60 FV type is worth well more than Todd Frazier." This is not like trading baseball cards or making trades in the abstract based on statistics alone. Who would you want at third base in the playoffs or World Series? Devers of Frazier? That is the context.
-
Frazier Trade Discussion
If Sandoval has any issues in Spring Training or soon after the start of the season, Dombrowski will trade Devers and perhaps more to get Frazier. Dombropwski and Boston are not going to mess around with any under-performing player on a team that is geared to compete for the WS this year. As far as Devers, there are significant question marks about his upside per the link I posted, just like there are with most other prospects. He is not close to being on the same level as Moncada and Benintendi. I want Frazier on the White Sox this season and perhaps re-signed to a short term deal unless Hahn is bowled over with a trade offer. Toddfather's contribution to the team is not just measured in stats , and White Sox fans love that guy. 40 HR is a huge factor and I bet he hits better than .220 this season. Did you see his son doing a Hawk impression? Put it on the boarrrrrrd..

Frazier Trade Discussion
Sorry for my awkward sentence implying that Devers was a catcher, and the broken link about Devers. I'll try that again without using the link tool: http://www.espn.com/blog/boston/red-sox/po...-red-sox-system

Frazier Trade Discussion
Nick Confardo of the Boston Globe mentioned that the Red Sox would be a good landing spot for Frazier. I'm not sure Rafael Devers would be what the Sox are looking for, since they have Zack Collins who might project better and the Sox could also potentially be in play for Severino from the Nationals.
