Is this a serious post? Moncada needs to learn how to make adjustments to drastically reduce his strikeout rate and hit better from the right side. He does not need some sort of "competitive challenge" from his own teammate. If anything, he should look around baseball and see younger prospects like Torres, Soto, Acuna, Albies, and Meadows all playing better than him and strive to catch up. Eloy needs a couple hundred at bats in AAA before he is called up.

This ain't church tough guy. -
So back to Giolito talk, the kid only has 25 career starts. Nobody seems to be that concerned with Moncada's struggles and is willing to give him 1500 at bats before they pass judgement. Shouldn't Giolito get 75 or so career starts before he is written off?

I'm willing to listen and understand others' points of view. One could say that you are not willing to listen to any viewpoints that are critical of the white sox or its underperforming players. One of those Nats prospects could bust out... -

How do you guys know this was a mediocre package? You need to wait at least 3-4 years before you can pass judgement on any trade. -
Are there any recent examples of a guy with a near 40% strikeout rate after 500 plate appearances turning into a perennial all star?
-
I really don't know what to say if you guys honestly don't think Kopech or Moncada are very important cogs in this Sox rebuild. What you describe with all those players has about a 5% chance of happening.
-
Way too many ifs in this statement for my liking. The Sox need Moncada and Kopech to be studs if they are to become a mini powerhouse in two years. There is a big difference in expected outcomes between the Sale trade and say the Swarzak trade. Getting hosed on trading your biggest chip is how you end up in a never ending rebuild cycle.
-
I'm not certain what your argument is. Cano had better numbers overall than Moncada after 500 career plate appearances. One went on to have a great career. The jury is still very much out on Moncada. The general consensus around here seems to be that Moncada is fine and that there is absolutely nothing to worry about with him. Let's hope that is the case as the flipside is too frightening to contemplate I suppose.

Moncada is at 523 Plate Appearances in his career. Cano had 551 at the end of his Rookie year. The number of PA are pretty close albeit spread out over 3 years for Moncada. Moncada has been compared to Cano from the minute he signed with Boston. The Sox pumped article after article about Moncada "the #1 Prospect in baseball" after the Sale trade was made. The Sox traded away the best pitcher in franchise history and a future HOF for Moncada. The kid was brought here to be a perennial all star. In what bizarro world is a 40% strike out rate considered good and not a giant red flag?
-
Cano had a 778 OPS at the end of his Rookie year. Also, Moncada is no longer a Rookie. Cano only struck out 68 times his rookie year in over 500 plate appearances. Moncada is sitting at 97 in mid-June.
-
He is playing like a Kia right now. Looks a lot more like Emilio Bonifacio than Robinson Cano at this point in his career. Let's hope he starts playing better soon. It is frustrating to watch other prospects come up and play well right away. It just seems like the Sox can't have nice things..
-
I'm not burying him completely . I asked a question on how he can turn it around and hope that he can. He is being surpassed by prospects that are younger than him and that is concerning though.
-
Way too late for that my friend. Moncada's hit tool is being exposed big time by major league pitching. He has an OPS under 700 and and an OBP under 300. We all know about the horrendous K rate. How does this all magically turn around for him? The Sox billed this kid as a Porsche in all the press that came out during and after the Sale trade. After 500 major league plate appearances, it looks like the Sox got a Kia instead.
-
I think the Sox would make this trade in a hearbeat if Cashman would agree to it. You wouldn't know it by following the Sox, but sometimes highly ranked prospects actually come up to the Show and produce right away. Crazy to think that Moncada was pretty much ranked higher than this kid by everyone a year ago. My how the tables have turned..
-
Moncada and Kopech for Gleyber Torres. Who says no?
-
The Cubs and Astros have been both lucky and very very good at identifying talent.Whoever has been scouting Latin America for the Cubs over the past decade is a fucking boss.
-
Was Sano ever the #1 prospect in baseball? The expectations for Moncada should be sky-high. The Sox need him to be a stud. He is one of the anchors of the rebuild. If Moncada pulls a Sano and ends up back in the minors then Hahn and company should be given the axe.
-
I do think Albies is the better player. He is also two years younger which doesn't seem to matter to you. Do you also think that Moncada is a better player than Torres from NY?
-
My original point that was Moncada's stock is down from this time last year when he was the "supposed" #1 prospect in baseball. I hope he turns it around soon, but his arrow is currently pointing down while younger dudes like Albies and Torres have leapfrogged him.
-
Dude Moncada has a 556 OPS over the last month. Albies is also two years younger than Moncada and has already leapfrogged him. Albies only cost the Braves 350K too.
-
Do the White Sox have too much starting pitching?
footlongcomiskeydog replied to Dam8610's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You can never have too much pitching is the correct and boring answer. Half those guys are gonna flame out. Some already have or are well on their way (Gio, Fulmer, Guerrero, Clarkin,) -
So Michael Kopech is the right handed version of Randy Johnson? Very interesting... I guess we can already say that Hahn won the Sale trade then.
-
Ozzie Albies just hit homers in back to back games this week. The kid is only 21 and is already a better ballplayer than Moncada. Moncada was a lot more fun last Summer when he was on top of pretty much every midseason prospect ranking list. He was even ahead of Gleybar Torres on most rankings which seems preposterous now. Too bad that you actually have to play the game and put those #1 "tools" to use.
-
That is a line that would make "Wild Thing" Charlie Sheen proud. Kopech is closer to AA than the Show right now unfortunately.
