CarGo to Sox?
Would much rather have CarGo than Moose any day. No one really knows if Nick can handle left field, and MM would take playing time from Yolmer. This year we should find out if Yolmer is a sub or a starter.

Where does Nicky Delmonico play after 2018?
QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 21, 2018 -> 11:11 AM) I just kinda think he's Ross Gload. Agreed. With his patient approach he could be effective as a pinch hitter leading off an inning, and with his gap power he could knock in some runs later in a different situation.

Moustakas linked to Sox again
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 20, 2018 -> 03:04 PM) .314 OBP to .521 SLG. League-wide walk rates have been quietly trending upward along with the explosion in homers, making his OBP well below average and the SLG not really all that far above average. He's exactly the player type that makes OPS deceiving. .521 in KC is very impressive IMO. Although 2017 was his best year to date, Moose will probably be a solid player for the next 2-3 seasons. I must admit to wanting Yolmer to play every day next year, and that wouldn't happen if MM is on the team.

Mlb.com top prospects
QUOTE (Tony @ Feb 15, 2018 -> 06:14 PM) It's also shocking considering how the Tatis trade has been beaten to death on this board. We get it, it was a TERRIBLE trade then, TERRIBLE trade now, and will be a TERRIBLE trade in 5 seasons. I assume Rick Hahn would tell you the same thing, and he absolutely deserves to wear it for that awful move. What else do you want us to do? It's time to move on. If anyone should be blamed, my choice would be Kenny Williams. I'll bet he was the one pushing that trade. Some times employees do things because the boss insists, not because they think it's a good idea.

Cold Stove - Free Agents Still on the table
QUOTE (BrianAnderson @ Feb 6, 2018 -> 01:56 PM) I get this, but at the same time ... dry powder this year might be a hell of a lot cheaper. I feel like teams have saved their cash for next years' FA market. So maybe for a complete guessing game..... What do you think Moustakas gets on the market next year if he takes a pillow contract this year? Maybe next year he gets the 5 year deal at like $75mm (15mm average). If that's the case, I don't see the issue of taking a shot at 4yr/44mm this year when the Sox have been historically really bad at plugging 3B. My other issue is I really don't trust Yolmer -- and that's coming from a really pro-Yolmer guy since like 2015 (also coincidentally after his best year in the majors). Yolmer types are better suited as super utilities or as #9 guys on teams. You can have one MAYBE two yolmer type guys on your team as starters if you're really actually serious about playing for a championship. (This is where WAR arguments are always brought up -- I get he had a good WAR last year) If Yolmer were playing 2b he really wouldn't be a marginal starter. He's only 25 and has gold glove defense. I'll bet he doesn't hit 12 HRs again but it wouldn't surprise me if he flirts with a .300 average and .750 OPS. His best 4-5 years are coming right now.

Ex-Sox Oscar Gamble has passed away according to Twitter (Heyman)
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 31, 2018 -> 09:56 AM) Sad. He hit a lot of homers, hardly ever struck out, and had awesome hair. I was 15 in 1977 and to this day, it was the best season of baseball in my life. 1972 and 2005 tie for second. After watching Deron Johnson,Bill Melton,Jorge Orta and Jim Spencer take turns hitting clean up for 2 years, "The SS Hit Men" were just what we needed.

Boras feeling the heat?
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 26, 2018 -> 03:48 PM) But this is a slippery slope, and the owners know it. Okay, let's say the owners all collectively stop crying and decide to put more into payroll. Does Boras and the MLBPA then start saying, "Okay, I think this is fair now. We aren't going to ask more than we're being paid now"? When it comes to finances, these sides are diametrically opposed. They have to constantly push against each other simply to avoid being swallowed up. If the owner's decide to give them 20% more, it doesn't erase the problem, it just means they now have to fight the exact same battle to avoid giving 25% more. I'd be cool with owners not spending on questionable free agents if they would lower prices on tickets with the savings. I always go at least once a year to a home game, but if it were a little less expensive I would definitely go more often. FWIW I'm 55 and am financially comfortable. Its got to be tough for younger less affluent people to afford a day at the park.

Top White Sox Prospects, Preseason 2018
QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Jan 24, 2018 -> 10:30 AM) I love Cease and Dunning. I'd have go Dunning and Cease (in that order) above Collins. My bold prediction for this year is that Cease explodes (much like Kopech 1.5 years ago) and is a top 40 prospect this time next year. Crazy K numbers and brings the walks down. I feel the same way. Considering the WS history of developing pitchers it wouldn't surprise me to see a huge leap from Dunning and Cease.

Singleton gets 100 game suspension
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 24, 2018 -> 08:39 AM) After a third failed drug test, you deserve what you get. Weed stays in your system in trace amounts longer than booze. It is also much less harmful to the human body than booze. I don't even smoke weed but it shouldn't be tested for IMO. If you show up to work sober, I couldn't care less how you get your buzz on.

Non-roster invitees
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jan 22, 2018 -> 05:04 PM) Adams had mixed results at Birmingham if you ask me. The velocity returned and the K/9 increased, but he gave up a ton of hits again and got lit up with HR's compared to his career norms. I know he's still young, but I really don't see much there other than a back end of the rotation if he's lucky. Much rather give the invites to guys much closer at making an impact and higher on the prospect depth chart. You may be right about Adams but there is one thing to keep in mind. Spencer Adams is still 1 and a half years younger than "phenom" Alec Hansen and has always been young for his league. I think it's too early to tell what will happen. The depth of the WS organization is probably why SA wasn't invited to camp. To me that is a very good thing.

White Sox prospects who just missed our upcoming T30
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2018 -> 01:00 PM) Those guys would have been around the top 10 a couple of years ago. Probably top 5 2-3 years ago.

Adam Engel
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 18, 2018 -> 07:46 AM) They'll probably platoon like they did last year with the other coming in as a late inning replacement for Delmonico. Of course, this discussion is moot if Tilson can stay healthy (ok, I couldn't say that with a straight face ). IF Tilson is healthy and there are no further moves: C: Castillo 1B: Abreu 2B: Moncada 3B: Sanchez (can spot start at 2B) SS: Anderson LF: Delmonico CF: Tilson RF: A. Garcia DH: Davidson (some starts at 1B and 3B as well) Bench C Narvaez IF/OF Garcia OF Engel With this set up, they can go with an 8th reliever or carry another bench player (Saladino maybe). I wonder what kind of football player AE could have become with his blend of size, speed and quickness

Adam Engel
QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 10:57 AM) I would almost rather let him get everyday ABs in AAA and see if he can develop anything resembling an average hit tool. It would also have the added benefit of keeping his service time down because I think even if he can never hit in the bigs, he could be a valuable piece when we are contending as a late inning defense and baserunning guy with the expanded roster and playoffs. AE is 26 already. fine glove, great speed. 25th man at best. Why such a deep discussion about a very mediocre talent?

Interesting Quote...
QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Jan 14, 2018 -> 02:12 PM) The Blackhawks wouldn't partner with the Cubs, because IIRC Wirtz/Reinsdorf have a pretty good partnership due to sharing the UC. The Cubs, will in fact, be on their own because the Hawks and Reinsdorf teams are more in line with each other than they are with the Cubs. Bears really don't matter, because the NFL is purely national broadcasts. I'd love to see this fail spectacularly because they don't have anyone else to put on their channel. It would be pretty funny if the Sox won a couple of world series right when the station launches and the Cubs go down a bit and miss the playoffs.

Sox randomly linked to JD Martinez for some reason
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 12, 2018 -> 08:33 PM) He supposedly has 5/150 waiting for him but doesn't want it. The guy hit 45 HR's in just 119 games. That's a ton of HR's. Him at the GRate would be perfect. Too bad it's doubtful the Sox would really be interested unless that 5/150 is BS . For that kind of power the "where would he play" question shouldn't matter even with Eloy on the horizon. He did hit a lot of homers but so did about 100 other guys. It was a juiced ball year and MLB sometimes de-juices the ball a little after a huge year. As much as I like Yolmer and Leury, it would really surprise me if either one matches their HR totals from 2017. This isn't a slam at JDM. He is a good hitter, but that looks like a career year to me.

Most valuable prospect out of the Top 15
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 08:29 AM) Maybe we'll see him as the starter in CF at some point. I like luis gonzalez. #3 pick last years draft. Started a little slow but finished strong. Will battle Collins for minor league walk leader. Between gonzalez, polo and basabe it could be a dog fight for center field.

Brewers Acquire Christian Yelich & sign Lorenzo Cain
QUOTE (KnightsOnMintSt @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 05:31 PM) This is how I look at a potential Yelich trade: Moncada, Giolito, Lopez, Jimenez, Robert, Hansen, and Kopech are all off limits. But after that, I think I would be willing to do about any 3 players, plus a lower level prospect. So if they would accept something like: Rutherford, Cease, Dunning and Hickman, I would do that for sure. Dunno about Cease. He might end up being great. I do get your point tho.

Sox Sleepers
QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Jan 3, 2018 -> 10:26 AM) My top 5 Evan Skoung (Winds up being our best C prospect after this year) Luis Gonzalez (Solid #2 hitter potential) Bernardo Flores (Turns out to be our best LH prospect) Jake Burger (I think he will blow up this year and make the top 100 mid-season) Dyaln Cease (yes I know he's a top 10 already but I am predicting that he will make the same sort of crazy jump Kopech did. Predicting he brings he control in while keeping his rediculous K numbers and just dominates the minors and moves into the top 25 prospects by year end) These are my 5 under the radar with their bold predictions attached. I like your list although I don't have a clue about Skoug. All four other guys could really make the Sox into a great team when they join the big club.

2017-2018 MLB player movement rumors and reports
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 29, 2017 -> 03:46 PM) What happens if you raise the minimum rookie scale from $500K to $1 mill? Seems like that's the biggest exploit from the owner's perspective. It wouldn't put an end to extreme spending for high end talent, but the value of WAR seemingly goes up (and thus, teams and analysts justify costs) because a team like the Yankees just paid $500K for 8 WAR for Aaron Judge, or $62,500K/WAR. If rookies begin taking on a larger share, it seems to me, at least, that the costs would be spread out a bit more and we might not be discussing $25 million for a player in Darvish who has had Tommy John surgery and is coming off a 3.5 WAR season. Raising the rookie salary is a good idea IMO. Getting to the majors is incredibly hard and being rewarded for it seems quite fair. It would really help guys who only play 1-3 years in the bigs most of all. These guys take a risk by trying to make it and it would stabilize their futures quite a bit for a small amount the MLB pie. Once in a while a long time minor leaguer makes it up to the show and helps a team win a world series[Pablo Ozuna].

2018 Hall of Fame ballots out today.
QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 3, 2017 -> 05:06 PM) The Winter Meetings begin a week from now with the announcement of the Modern Baseball Era voting results. https://baseballhall.org/modern-baseball-era-ballot-2018 Quite a few of these guys I'd have no problem getting in, but I'm partial to Dale Murphy and Alan Trammell. I think murphy was a great player at his peak, but I'm not sure he was productive Long enough to get in. kind of reminds me of dick allen's career. elite numbers but 2-3 years short of some other guys.

Winter Meetings 2017
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 01:23 PM) I would think Carlos Gonzalez is a solid option if it seems likely that Garcia is going to be traded. He would not make sense otherwise as I don't expect Jiminez down for long. I think he'd be good to have around in case Avi falls back to his previous form. If Jimenez looks like he's ready in june or july, and Avi is still hitting,he might be a good trade chip. If Gonzalez is out of gas you can pay him the buyout and move on. Delmonico at DH,1B and LF could still get 500 AB's.
