It's inconsistent to complain about people's overreactions but also use Machado's worst season as indicative of a bad contract.

Zack Wheeler: To the Phils (5yr 118); Sox had made BIGGER offer
Superstar Lamar replied to Soxnfins's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The Sox also think they had the highest offer for Machado. Don't be fooled -
poorly. for yet another year

Not falling for the banana in the tailpipe again I don't want to hear who they are interested in. I only want to hear who they sign.

Sox in on Marcell Ozuna? I mean, maybe. Or not.
Superstar Lamar replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm going to continue with my unglamorous suggestion of Ben Zobrist on a one year deal. High OBP, another switch hitter for the lineup, played 84 games in the OF in 2018 and 64 the year before, high character guy. -
There are people here still quoting that high school kid who has never gotten anything correct

WHITE SOX SIGN Grandal 4/$73, Palka DFAd
Superstar Lamar replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Should help us selling our team to free agent pitchers, Ryu in particular. I wonder if this is any indication on Sox direction for FA SP -
sounds like an agent is using the white sox available money to boost the value of offers to his client

Predict the Market: FA Contracts
Superstar Lamar replied to Look at Ray Ray Run's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I would like to see Rich Hill signed as the second pitcher on a short term deal but only if they are signing another more dependable starter as well. Let Hill take 15-20 starts to keep the innings down on Kopech and Cease. -
I think my method of operations on free agency this year would be to aggressively approach pitchers but sit back and let value come to me with fielders. Those Puig numbers aren't horrible. Maybe being around fellow countryman will inspire him to be his best or at least shame him into not being his worst. Giving him three years is a little concerning with his lack of dedication. Still, those three years are ages 28-30 where he should be his best.

I'm not playing this game again this season off season

I wonder how quickly an Abreu contract is announced once this season wraps up. My guess is they are respectful of the WS news cycle and leave an announcement to the middle of next week

Steve Stone not returning to the booth next season???
Superstar Lamar replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Stone's been desperate to be in management for decades but either the market doesn't find him to be as smart as he thinks he is or he is a difficult co worker. -
Zack Wheeler 5 year deal Rich Hill 1 year deal Hunter Pence 1 year deal

realism sucks

Unlike some, I don't think the first signing will be a high end pitcher. It seems from recent past that second tier guys at a position (for example Wheeler) are keyed in to the amount the top tier receives. The top tier meanwhile, plays a game of chicken to see who signs first. Boras always seems to wait it out when he represents the top tier, then after someone on his client's level signs, he looks to beat that number. As everyone has agreed, Jose signs first. On some level it may have been brilliant for JR to announce that Jose will never wear another uniform with Jose subsequently supporting the statement. That should retard the offers he receives as teams won't waste their time on a futile gesture. The first non Jose I think will be a relief pitcher. You can move pretty quickly in FA to transform a bullpen.

I'll admit it if he doesn't opt out after 5 years. If he plays well enough to opt out in five, the cost would have neither prevented them from signing additional free agents nor extending their emerging core.

and the Packers lost as well It might be wise to play the lottery today

Maybe. He sounded like he would in the right situation in the quotes from him in today's Tribune. He said he feels great and thinks he has more baseball in him. I would imagine being able to stay in Chicago would be attractive to him.

There is no reason to take team stats and extrapolate them as indicative of anything in the future with the 2019 White Sox. There are maybe 3-4 players who will be here in 2021. If you limit it to Moncada, Anderson, Jimenez and the numbers are troubling, then there is cause for concern

I am going to continue to beat the drum for Zobrist on a one year deal with a team option as our RF next year: switch hits, high obp, low K, may be rejuvenated after most of the year off, veteran leadership and movable should a minor league OF develop. He can bat leadoff and played 100+ games as a corner OF last year. Get Wheeler as a front end starter as your big(ish) signing. Sign Cole Hammels for the back end on a one year.
-
some far outside the box thinking: Ben Zobrist on a one year deal. He'd be a placeholder who provides lots of veteran leadership. He played over 100 games as a corner OF for the Cubs last year. He switch hits, doesn't strike out and gets on base better than anyone one the team currently. My guess is he wants the stability of staying in Chicago and would probably come cheap.

I still consider him to be until he has pitched a full MLB season as I expect he will have the peaks and troughs of a developing pitcher
