Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go

Featured Replies

I would be slightly disappointed if the Sox were to trade their 3 best chips and only come away with 1 "elite" position player prospect. Value is value, but I would greatly prefer a Tucker++, Frazier++ etc than a deal centered around Glasnow.

  • Guys...I feel like losing Quintana would hurt the most. What is everyone's thoughts on keeping him? Maybe he can be the Ace of the next good Sox team.

  • http://m.yankees.mlb.com/news/article/2123...white-sox-talk/   Official site of the Yankees reporting that the earlier reports of Robertson being included in trade talks was false.

I'm not really buying Tilson being a capable defender in CF, at least not on an everyday basis. And he does not have the bat for a corner job. His future role is 4th OF and nothing more IMO.

Lagares would be perfect...would cost the Sox almost nothing other than salary, as they want to find a healthier player who has a better OPS against RHP to give everyday playing time.

They could flip him, and just his defense alone in CF would really benefit the young pitching staff, and make the corner outfielders better by their knowledge he always has the gaps covered.

I have a feeling the hold up is less about Meadows and more about the Sox wanting Bell in the deal while the Pirates would rather include Glasnow. The lack of denial regarding Meadows involvement in talks or labeling of him as untouchable is a pretty telling sign that he's in as the prize.

This may be a case where the Sox have to break their rule about not moving multiple trade chips in one deal. Specifically giving them Frazier to play 1b (and mash 40 HR) to offset the loss of Bell. I am 100% fine with this by the way.

Don't think there's any way Meadows is available

I'm not sure the Pirates have the money to afford both Quintana & Frazier and adding a 1B option on a one year deal doesn't make a lot of sense for them IMO.

I like him plenty as a secondary piece. Likely limited to first or DH though.

He does look like he will end up at first base. His eye and hit tool really intrigue me, to the point I'm not sure if I would prefer him or Hayes. Something about Craig's eye and hit tool makes me think he could move faster than normal through the minors.

I'm fine with a package headed by Glasnow and Bell, just not sure what the other piece(s) I would like. Would like to get Glasnow, Bell, Newman and Craig but that might be stretching it a bit.

If encarnacion signs with Indians, I expect the Astros to come crawling back.

Rick Hahn must be the happiest person on the planet -- right now!!

Been watching the Pirates farm for about 1-2 years now and the Pirates have been very high on Meadows the whole time. That doesn't mean he cannot be had, like Moncada, just that Meadows is quite valuable to Pitt. It may take another teams offer to get Pitt to include Meadows. Who knows, maybe that's what's going on.

Why do you think an Indians signing of Encarnacion incentives the Astros?

So spread the happiness, Rick.

Bell will end up as a DH

I've been traveling all day, anything new? Or just still a lot of speculation?

Just that Pirates still interested despite signing Nova

About 400 posts of bulls***. A wasted day. Lots and lots of cock teasing.

Gotcha. Thanks guys.

Exactly.

The problem for the Astros is even if they decide to now acquiesce to the Tucker-Martes-Musgrove demand the Pirates or Yankees are both in positions to easily beat that deal. The cost for Houston now likely either (a) includes Bregman or (b) 5 prospects of the Sox choice. The market for Quintana after appearing to stagnate for almost two weeks has now exploded. Pretty much every team that is even thinking of contending in 2017 is picking up the phone.

The Pirates and Yankees flat have better pieces than Houston to offer, and if one them becomes a truly motivated buyer there is almost nothing Houston can do (short of Bregman) to get Quintana.

Crazy idea I had this morning was offer Frazier for McCutchen as part of the trade provided the Pirates offer an additional piece for Q. This allows Pitt to make room for Meadows and add power to the 3B position while removing McCutchen's salary from their '17 payroll. McCutchen would be a good risk for a rebuilding team like the Sox to take. If the gamble works, come July McCutchen would fetch more in a trade than Frazier thus giving the Sox a chance for a pretty nice haul. If McCutchen got off to a strong start, his '18 option for 14M+ would add value in a July trade.

If the Pirates are offering say, Glasnow/Bell/Hayes, offer the Frazier for McCutchen idea if they throw Craig into the mix for Q. I'm just using Hayes and Craig as examples, other prospects could be used in the deal to augment Glasnow/Bell.

It's just an idea and nothing too serious. Just trying to think outside the box.

This is likely all speculative bulls***... just like the 400 posts preceding it... my posts included.

Oh the joys of message boards. :)

I think Hahn would see McCutcheon as a distraction to the rebuild idea. He probably argued for years to tear it down, and if he brought in McCutch, and he lit it up, got the team to around .500, Reinsdorf would say "let's go for it" and halt the rebuild.

If I'm Hahn I want no,part of any high dollar veteran help.

Seems to me that there is more reported interest in Q than Sale. Reported is the key word there. How cool would it be to get near equal value or more.

I think there are more teams because the price isn't as high.

Well, that's one way of speculating about it. My speculation is that Q's price started just a tick below Sale's and now with all the interest is at an equal place.

What the f*** do I know thou?

I don't think Musgrove will be involved. All of the teams are trying to make a playoff push. They aren't going to trade players they are counting on for the MLB roster. That's why the Sox settled for Moncada and why turner was not available. It's also why Meadows won't happen if the pirates are still trying to trade McCutchen.
