Cubs a lock to reach WS; ditto Cleveland. It's destined to be a rematch and Cleveland fans shouldn't assume revenge is complete. Cubs will be loose if they get that far and win it again.

Then we'll be looking at a possible threepeat? My gawd. Bartman would finally come out of hibernation if Cubs win their second in a row. Who the hell would do anything but hug him then?

Firing bosio seemed odd

My take: Cubs ran into the real Dodger team, not the one that lost 11 in a row. Cubs were lifeless, almost as if they'd run out of gas (if you want to take the cliche avenue for why they lost; not just crediting Dodger pitching and the redbearded star hitter).

Zobrist is suddenly over the hill; no magic this series. My take: Cub pitching coach unfortunate scapegoat, but since I don't even know his name, who cares?

At any rate, Cubs looked like a dead team; could be it was the Dodger pitching making them look that way. It does appear they are another 85 Bears though. Cubs one and done; just like the Sox. Only one WS for Cubbies. Now it's Sox turn again.

Now greg, I was told by you it was a LOCK that the Cubs would be back in the World Series. I was told not to even think twice.

So why should we take your prediction of Cubs “one and done” seriously?

Bet the house, baby.

Sounds like a scapegoat so that Maddon can reunite with his old pitching coach.

Well, even the best gamblers only win 60 percent of the time. Who would have known the Cubs would hit the brick wall after the big elimination game win over the Nats? If all the Cubs were as consistent as Rizzo the last three years (almost identical stats) they'd have won it all, though he also blew chunks in the Dodger series. Cubs magic is gone. Now they are just another team. I thought they'd have a Blackhawks type run with 3 titles in six years minimum and maybe 2 straight and 3 of 4 right off the bat.

Not good to have scapegoats. Maddon may lose the clubhouse over this if he did it for personal reasons and if players liked the old pitching coach.

You are a fascinating human troll.

Fixed

Chili Davis new Cubs hitting coach, and they have a new 3rd base coach as well. Wasn't it about a week ago they basically said their entire staff would be back?

Don't understand how SF benefits from that. That would be the ultimate bail out for the Cubs.

Saves them around $30 million or so.

Salary Dump for Salary Dump. I feel like Shark would do really good in a return to Wrigley

They need someone who can cover that outfield so he at least would help prevent runs. And as mentioned, it could save them money.

That is a very interesting trade rumor. As a Sox fan, I wouldn't want to see it happen so the cubs remain stuck like pigs with Heyward's contract. As a baseball fan, it's makes sense for both teams.

Yeah I'd rather they have to trade one of their younger guys due to the glut than unclog it by dealing Heyward.

I wonder if it makes cash room for Stanton

Heyward is owed: $140 million over next 6 years- $28.2 (2018), $22.5 (2019), $23.5 (2020), $23.5 (2021), $24.5 (2022), $24.5 (2023).

Samardzija: $19.8 in 2018, 2019, 2020 for a total of $59.4 million

Melancon:$13 million (2018), $17 million (2019), $17 million (2020)

Do the Giants need the $$ to take on Giancarlo Stanton's deal? Heyman has them as the frontrunners.

This deal would save Giants: $5 million in 2018, $14 million in 2019, and $13 million in 2020.

Jesse Rogers apparently brought up the same trade discussions on ESPN1000 today as well.

If they acquire both Heyward and Stanton, depending on the money going their way, they would definitely need to deal both Span and Pence.

I don't see how this deal makes sense for the Giants.

All three contracts are bad but the Giants contracts you could eat some salary and move both guys for $0.50 on the dollar. The Heyward deal is an albatross.

The Giants in total also take on about $30M in extra salary.

This assumes nobody opts out and the cubs don't send money the Giants way.

Since the Giants are looking to free up some money, I'd do a James Shields for Hunter Pence/Heliot Ramos swap. :D

I hadn't seen that. Makes more sense now as they'll be trying to get every penny for Stanton. I trust WSD so I'm going to assume there have been advanced talks on this. This would help the cubs pretty nicely.

Cubs have a worse time with the truth than they do with their bullpen

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/rosen...1027-story.html

Bosio's firing was interesting, as we saw Maddon relying on him all postseason in regards to when to go get a guy.

And yet, the hiring of Jim Hickey clearly shows the Cubs gave Maddon wide latitude in regards to who was to replace Bosio. Also makes you wonder how much Arrieta's imminent departure, and whatever hand Bosio may have had in turning him around played into the decision.

Rosenbloom seizing on the transparency issue though is pretty laughable.
