Luis Robert signing official

Featured Replies

Latest rumors seem to be concentrated around the Cardinals and White Sox, but no official word is out, despite low level twitter reports claiming otherwise.

Alright fellas get ready for the ride, just temper expectations to in case. Will ease the let down if he signs elsewhere. That said go get em Hahn!

I didn't see this last night, but it sure seems like McGuffey believes it will be the Cardinals

Yea he says the Cards offered more money. No reason for Robert to not take top offer; especially someone his age at the beginning of his career.

I also read this morning one column (I thought it was Heyman but I can't find it) that said Hahn may be "pulling back" from Robert.

Who is Ryan McGuffey?

Cardinals also signed one of his really good friends a few months ago I believe.

CSN producer. He's done some really great stuff of Garfeins podcast about our minor leagues, did a long embedded trip with each.

He's gotten decent info, probably similar sources as Garfein.

Jose Adolis Garcia.

695 ops at Springfield, AA Texas League

But he's also tight with Ynoa, who was one of his agent's first big international deals and part of the same intl signing group that produced Miguel Sano.

If his connection with Ynoa swayed him toward the Sox, I will personally write Jeff Samardzija a thank you note for bringing us Robert.

The only way you could prove it is if he takes less money and cites the player (Ynoa/Garcia) as a factor in his decision.

Any ideas on Plan B for the Sox if they can't land Robert? They appear to have all their eggs in his basket so I'm not exactly sure how they pivot if they are outbid.

Yeah, they move that money towards a future MLB expenditure.

Sounds like Robert is plan A-Z. As far as we know the Sox aren't connected to any other players. They can go after Otani next off season but he would appear to be an even more difficult player to land than Robert.

he better not be....

Huh? Doesn't he say "could go either way". Not getting how he believes it is the Cards from that conversational thread.

Because Fathom always reads the worst case scenario into everything

Jon Greenberg, from the McGuffey thread, does claim his source says our offer will be "phenomenal", FWIW.

I mean, pretty good odds he goes with best offer.

Getting ready to put it all on Hahn, I see. Citing articles you can't find

Certainly, but to this point there is nothing more than rumor and innuendo as to who has made that offer. From all the information available it seems that both the Sox and Cards have been pretty aggressive with Robert. There is no point in sensationalizing every tweet made about the situation.

Or there is. Whatever. Haha.

In case anyone didn't know, the Instagram DM thing was from a "create fake Instagram DM's!" application. The biggest sign is that the messages were at the top of the screen rather than the bottom, which is where they go when a conversation first starts.

He did not say that. He said the Card's offer is significant. He says nothing about the Sox offer, but two lines down, Jon Greenberg say the Sox offer is "phenomenal".

So you are left to read between "significant" and "phenomenal" from two different guys.

People read what they want to read. It is no surprise GreenSox wants STL to sign him so he can spend the next few years b****ing about it. He lost the ability to b**** about trading for Kahnle.
