Machado signs with Padres 10/300

Is there a debate going on that we don't need to sign him because we have too much talent? Or am I completely misreading this? The team doesn't have any MLB stars on it currently, so no reason to give up on landing one now.

No the debate started with a comment that even with Machado the team's success will lie with the rebuild and players from the minors.

The Astros built a WS champion without high priced FA.

Then the usual comments about the Sox can't develop players.

The responses were then they will suck no matter what.

Well you've also got Renteria saying that Moncada has a good chance of starting there opening day.

You missed the context merk provided afterwards if you read that whole thing as 'Likely'

See Fields, Semien, Teahen, Beckham, Viciedo, Collins (coming soon, according to scouts), Burger...

Then all the money we have invested into 1B/DH types over the last two decades, versus catcher, middle infield and CF.

No patience, or a lack of ability to “fix fielders” like Cooper could fix pitchers.

it's been bad.

Which RH had little if anything to do with.  And that's now 14 years ago.  The honeymoon period is long gone.  Remember, it was Hahn's disastrous off-season in 2015 that led to this rebuild.

He gets this year and next year.  If the team doesn't win more than 88 games next year he more than deserves to be canned.

I’ll go with the Royals’ 2013 season, leading into 2014/15 World Series teams.

Competitive for most of the year, but closer to an 81-83 win true outcome team (at least .500, and you can argue higher because of shitty division)....without a whale or major additions at the trade deadline.

He also said. "I can’t worry about who’s not here. I’ve been focused on the guys that are here. I have to move forward that way. And like any team, anything can happen. You make adjustments as those changes occur, if they occur."

It's been, what, seven years?

2 since they allowed him to start the rebuild.

6 years isn't enough.

he inherited the mess from Kw and tried to make it work at first with patching a team to be competitive.  He followed the motto that the prior GM and current owner used for 30 + years where we are just good enough and hope to start a fire. Since then he has convinced ownership to a rebuld approach  (5 years later than it should have been done) and quickly turned a historically weak farm system into one of the best right now, all with a limited budget. Now he has a chance to land a whale so lets see it play out.  He has done ok with the draft but it still is an incomplete grade to give

Managers intentionally act blind to what is going on with contracts or trades. He said what he had to say about Moncada before but as far as he is concerned he has to manage the team that is there, not the one that might be there in the future.

But it's a bad decision absent Machado signing. I think it's okay to criticize it.

Unless Jerry kicks it in the next 10 months, fat chance at that

I think Hahn and Co. should be allowed to complete their rebuilding plan.

He inherited a team that just missed the playoffs, and the team promptly cratered

Incredible inside news eyes only says John Jay is now #45. Jordan had to give permission.

So why is he moving Moncada for a guy who "might be there in the future"? (Madrigal).

We agree on the time frame. I've said all along he gets 4 years, that would be 2020.

Yeah, I get trying to make him more flexible, but if you're planning on moving him full time right now, that makes zero sense.

Who will play 2B, one of the Guillen or Williams family tree?  Rondon?

There’s such a thing as negative interest rates, where they charge you as a bank for depositing money...well, we’re heading towards negative t.v. ratings like the Astros five years ago, where they have to pay subscribers to watch.

Mission accomplished.

Fuckin hi8is lol definitely got me. I didn't look at who the last post was from until I had already opened up about 3 of them in different tabs.

Yolmer takes the spot until Madrigal is ready and they race Madrigal up to the bigs as fast as possible.

More lineup flexibility? It is the way the game is morphing into.

I do take the view that the lack of progression today is good news for the white sox.
