He also showed clips as to WHY Nomar was better in the second half because he was cutting down on a lot of unnecessary movable mechanics. He says if he could get them cut down even more so as to improve his timing , and get it more consistent, that we may REALLY HAVE SOMETHING. He said that he REALLY likes this move for The Sox. He also said that he has what would be called "stupid power" and showed the 500 footer that he hit against us this year. Even Joey Gallo said in an interview that in batting practice, that he was putting balls on the roof. WHO KNOWS? If they can cut down his mechanics, shorten his swing and harness his power, we may have something. Certainly worth a shot when only giving up a AA player when we already have 4 other minor league outfielders that are ahead of Walker in their progressions

Maybe Menechino does whatever he did with Marcella Ozuna and suddenly the Sox get two years to decide to extend a Mazara who realized his potential, or maybe one of the minor league outfielders breaks out. To spare people looking up the numbers, Nomar's second half splits were .287/.320/.859. I'd certainly take that with his power. Now he gets The Cell and LOOGYs are gone. This is the most positive take possible and doesn't address that you'd like more walks out of the guy, but hey, it's nice to look on the bright side occasionally.

The thing I liked was he gets burned on advanced stats probably because he played in Arlington, but his home road splits are really similar. What his numbers have been really could be a floor. And as awful as people want to make them, they really aren’t all that bad. Lifetime, he is a .754 OPS which isn’t awful for a 24 year old. He averages 24 homers per 162. Whether he improves , who really knows, but the talent is there.

The clip that I saw that showed his swing and parallel to Harold was when Verducci was sitting on the high stools in the MLB Studio with 2 other guys. Sorry... don't have a link. Given his natural power there is no reason he cannot focus more on contact and still hit home runs. You may have a point with the lefties and I had only considered the pitching perspective. Guys like Nomar are not going to see relief specialists as often. Just a little Koolaid appetizer.

December 15, 20196 yr I think the best thing we could hear is Mazara headed to AZ this winter to work with Menechino. Unlocking him really is just about approach and we had such great success with Moncada last year.

Engel to me is the real important part. IF he continues raking against lefties, that platoon will be 3+ WAR between the 2 of them. I wish Mazara had OBP to go with power, but buried in the 7 or 8 hole should be okay I guess. No more LOOGY's really is going to make a big deal for innings 6-9 going forward, and I am interested to see how Nomar reacts to a change of scenery.

He didn't break out till he was 26. He started out with the idea that he couldn't believe other guys were so much better than him. He studied his own swing and studied the swings of guys like Trout , Pujols, Miggy (all RH like him) and said my swing doesn't look like those guys swings. Then he proceeded to revamp his swing and tried it out in Venezuelan winter ball and couldn't believe how he started hitting in a way he had never hit before.
