This will be blamed on Bolton, guaranteed.  If we had Dr. Stiever (malaria specialist) and Tom Bossert back on the job, it would be like having two more Tony Fauci’s.  People don’t realize that Dr. Fauci is 78, he can’t sustain this level of effort indefinitely without some more expert support.  
 

It’s definitely not coming from Redfield, Azar or Seema Verma.

I believe we have to take this seriously and quit with the denials. However, I also saw an example of overreaction and panic at my hometown grocery store this morning. There is nothing wrong with stocking up some, but this was absurd. People had their carts over filled. The store had to put a limit on purchasing toilet paper. (Although I can't blame people for stocking up on that.) The point is people were hoarding when I don't see a reason to. To my knowledge, there has been no concerns about grocery stores not getting merchandise.

I figured I would have least a two-hour wait to get to check out. I didn't have that much, and it wasn't completely essential, so I put everything back and left without buying anything. Another reason I left is that some idiot in front of me was espousing conspiracy theories and I felt my blood pressure spike. 

I'm old enough to remember the energy shortages of the 1970s. Tensions ran high, and there was violence in gas station lines. We don't need a repeat of that.

I'm all for what major league sports is doing at the moment, and I am for other safety measures. But we need a real national discussion so we can cope with the danger of this crisis. What was happening at the store was insane. If people overbuy, they are depriving others of buying. And it wasn't really good to have a huge crowd in that contained space.

One more thing: present day conspiracy theories are giving other viable conspiracy theories a bad name. That's frustrating.

The other problem is waiting in a long line isn’t the healthiest place to be either. 

 Let's try everything we can to flatten the curve on infection and see where we are at by April 15 or perhaps May 1. Then we go on from there depending on what we have learned in the next 4-6 weeks.

In the meantime stop acting funny, espousing conspiracy theories, hoarding toilet paper and calling a serious virus a "hoax".   This isn't a political football that is easy to throw back and forth.  We pretty much need to work together on this one and pretend that we are all on the same team for a change.  Buckle up buttercups. Maybe work on cleaning the garage or shed out,  starting a new project , painting the house, reading and learning about something that interests you.  Maybe by May or June we have baseball again.

Not to mention, in a situation like this, you have a crowd of people packed together in a closed in space. That's not good in a crisis like this.

I hope things work out so we can have a baseball season. We need a distraction from this stuff.  We need some relief as well.

I completely get why this is all being done, and I am on board, but dammit why'd this have to happen when I am the most excited for the team than I've been in years ?

That’s pretty clearly a reaction to CDC warning about gatherings of 50 or more through May 15.  2-3 weeks to ramp up beginning sometime in the first week of May or last week of April.

If it’s July 1st and baseball still hasn’t resumed, do you guys think they would consider just giving up on the year and focusing on 2021?

Pretty low likelihood...you’d see the NBA and NHL cancelling their postseasons first.

How likely is that?  

They could still start an 81 game season around late june so until then they don't need to cancel.

So if they could start a shortened spring training june first and then regular season june 24th or so they could play 81 games and a normal post season.

If they can't start anything (not even spring training) by mid July there might not be a season.

I believe there will be a season albeit a truncated one.

Pretty late, like if they couldn't start until after the traditional post ASB type late.

If that were the case I'd hope they at least try something fun like a huge WBC like tournament with all teams and the truncated season a seeding play and do away with a world series this year as a season that short to me wouldn't qualify.

Man if it’s bad enough that they can’t start the season up in June baseball will be the absolute last of our worries.

Many said same thing about March Madness. 

Right, but that’s the kind of sport where you can’t just have kids waiting for 2-3 months and playing again when it was already the end of the season...plus you have to think about exams, that the athletes are not getting paid, pre-set semester schedules, etc.

The Masters seemed more realistic, but they care so much about the patron experience down there.

I wouldn't mind them going to a 90 game season this year. That's 30 three game series', 28 with your league, and 2 inter league series. 84 games against 14 teams would mean a home and home with every American League team playing everyone 6 times. Then every team could be their interleague rival 6 times or whatever. That would match up well since there always has to be an interleague series going on. If they'd actually do this I'd prefer to do away with the divisions for this year and take the top 4 teams in each league to make the playoffs since this would basically be a super round robin schedule.

There are 15 teams in both leagues, don’t think your proposal will work.

They should be ready by June 15 or forget it. I suppose they could transform the AFL into an MLB experience.

Why cut it off so early? So if this all blows over by August 1st, why do you think they can't play from there? Even if you have a 50-70 game season, how is that not better than no baseball at all?
