White Sox Acquire Jarrod Dyson from PIT

Featured Replies

Dyson seems to be one of those KW guys.  Why not? We have some slow guys who might be on base paths late in game.

So essentially we gave up money we could have spent in Latin America, in a period that is already dried up, for the right to pay the best pinch runner in baseball for the rest of the season.  There re

You just can't have too many 35 year old center fielders who can't hit

He is not going to hit.  He is going to pinch run and be a defensive replacement.

It seems to be current period $, which is fine I guess. If they ain't using it might as well get the fastest OF in the majors or whatever.

That's good then, I guess.  Dyson is an elite defender and speedster, so I guess he's not terrible to have around to replace Eloy in LF in 9th innings if Engel is playing RF.  Also as a pinch runner in extras.

What's a "those KW guys?"

His SB career numbers are very impressive. 85% career success rate. Stole 30 out of 34 attempts last year. Is 4 for 4 this season.

With the 10th inning extra runner out there, and the extra roster spots for the playoffs, he could be a great tool as a PR and replacement OF.

Is the extra inning rule of a man on 2nd to start the inning effective in the playoffs as well this year?

Having Engel and Dyson as the back ups in the OF gives us a lot of different opportunities late in games to pinch run/replace Eloy and Nomar in the OF. Nothing wrong with it

Not in the playoffs.  But he will still fill in as  PR and D replacement.

Also keep in mind, if Engel is going to be starting more, we won't have him as an off of the bench tool.

Got it.  Thanks for clarifying!!

Pretty much a nothing burger.. meh

He seems to be a luxury on a roster with Engel already here and a smaller playoff roster.

I actually like this move. It gives us a pinch runner with speed and a defensive replacement off the bench. Also he has World Series experience which is a plus.

One of the best base runners in mlb history. Thats not an exaggeration. Hes a guy that goes and gets you a run late in a playoff game.

Even more specific, Eloy was the one negative defensive player on the team last I saw.

In Willie we trust.

Give up nothing - as this doesn't affect Cespedes or Colas - to acquire Engel Lite, which is good because our LF is Eloy and our RF is Mazara.

I'm cool with it.

Maybe with the extension of the next signing period to Jan 15, this period is being extended?  I am stabbing in the dark here.

Has to be it.

Why?

Serves the role of speedy bench piece in playoffs I guess.

Exactly. Can’t have Eloy in LF in key late inning defensive situations. Plus as others have said, he’s a weapon on 2B in extra innings.

why, I dont know.

They need a cleanup hitter? ?

So the expanded rosters will carry into the postseason?
