Obviously, at this point it doesn't matter and is all speculation, but the playoffs set up pretty nicely for the Sox had they got past Houston. Would have had homefield in the ALCS and World Series against Boston and Atlanta.

Houston was a bad matchup for the Sox but had they survived, could they have gone all the way?

No because you could see the pressure get to our starting staff. The Red Sox would have teed off on us just like Houston did. Can't win many playoff games when your starters piss themselves on the mound and cant go more than 2 innings.

For the Sox to have advanced against any playoff team, they had to have a healthy Rodon. They didn't have a healthy Rodon, and, unfortunately, may never have a healthy Rodon.

Man, watching how good those teams have been in the playoffs, it’s hard to imagine that our White Sox as currently constructed could hang with any of them. It’s like we’re not even in the same league.

And a reasonably fit, two-kneeed Lynn.
A fielding scheme that actually plays against the tendencies of the opponent or at least a defense that plays well as a unit wouldn't hurt.

I long thought that if this Sox team got out of the first round, they'd make the World Series, and from there it would be a toss up....but I also didnt think it would be Atlanta.  Nothing against the Braves, they have played great.

They were mediocre after the All Star break and sad to say I wasn't confident about them beating any of the playoff teams.

It was really really hard to watch the whole pitching staff piss the shit out of itself.  
 

Houston’s lineup is really good, but I was still expecting way more dominant stretches.  
 

FO has some work to do no doubt.

 Sox would have destroyed them both I think. They're very lefty dependent. Astros were the match up from hell for us.

...and we saw a significantly better version of the Astros than even the BoSox did, as they were able to throw Lance McKryptonite at us twice in a five-game series.  

I know regular season results only matter around here when we're talking about the Sox/Astros July series in Houston, but we did play Boston really well this year.

Rodon was throwing 99 in his start against Houston.  Who knows how he felt the next day but the reason he only last 3 innings wasn't his health.

Conditioning is a major part of health.

On their best night, the Sox could beat anyone.  

So the answer is yes.

Braves pitchers didnt start shaking on the mound and actually pitched well in houston. Wow. Must be nice. Thats even with losing their starter for the series.

Its amazing what happens when you hit the ball in the air and dont walk everyone.

Algebraically, losing McCullers and Morton is a cancelling action. A primary task for the Braves now is to keep the wet blankets thrown on Altuve, as he is often the catalyst that gets the big innings going.  If Fried beats the Stros tonight - the Series gets really interesting.
