Minnie Minoso, Buck O'Neil and Four Others Elected to the Baseball HOF; Dick Allen Screwed by One Vote

Featured Replies

When the guy said there were 4 new on the one ballot, I guessed Minoso, Hodges, Kaat, and Allen. Oliva was deserving too. Hopefully Dick Allen will get in too someday. But my lord, enough with putting dead people in. Figure out who belongs per era, put them in while they can enjoy it with their family, and move on.

  • Obviously he should have been in long, long ago and enjoyed it himself. He was second best AL player 1951-1961, after a late arrival to the American League for obvious reasons. It’ll be nice when they

All my White Sox homerism aside... well as much as it can be.... Minnie and Allen are the two biggest snubs in my opinion.

He has always played in challenging home run parks. Comiskey Park was 352 down the lines (with 12 foot high walls), 375 to the alleys and 410 to CF. Cleveland Municipal Stadium was 395 to the alleys a

So happy to see Minnie in, very disappointed for Allen.

What a shame Minnie couldn't have seen this day.  Anyone who didn't vote for Allen must not have seen him play.

Yep.

Appreciated Tony Oliva and Jim Kaat as players.

In addition to Dick Allen, John Donaldson was also worthy of induction with this HOF inductee class. John McGraw who managed for decades called John the greatest he'd ever seen. John Donaldson lived his post baseball career here, passed in Cook County Hospital, and is buried in Alsip (Burr Oak).

I’m with @ron883 this almost makes me more mad rather than happy.

Sox had a weird history of trading their star players. Minnie Louie Harold Nellie.

It is about damn time Minnie got into the HOF. Congrats to his family and fans everywhere. ?

That late 60s, early 70s era was so offensively challenged that for some reason a lot of guys that should have been obvious took forever to get in, or never did.  30 homers a season then is like 50 today. A .270 average is .300 today.

Anyone who could make wearing a helmet in the field look cool deserves to be in the HOF for that alone.

So happy to see Minnie get in, but so sad he was not put in while he was alive!  Kaat well deserved also.

He instantly lost me with the whacko Baines obsession.

With the addition of Kaat, the 1982 season now has 43 future hall of famers. That’s kind of a lot. Baines, Morris, Trammell, Lee Smith, Ted Simmons got in on committee votes.

And disappointed for John Donaldson's family. Over 400 wins. Great scout. Another man who broke barriers while with the Sox.

But hearing them announce Minnie was even better than Frank.

Took too too long for Minnie.  Well deserved.

About time! Remember he use to always be at the games walking around when I was young lad.

So happy Minnie is finally in - should have happened years ago. Once of the nicest players I have ever met. You could tell how much he loved the game and the White Sox.

Cannot believe that Allen continues to get screwed over.

Recognizing the Negro Leagues as major leagues is just about the only good thing Manfred has done.

Buck O’Neill is also on the ballot, another criminal omission.

Dick Allen Allen not making the hall is afucking  joke. Didn’t he have the highest  ops from 1964 to1974 of any player?

. And for the racial crap he had to put up with he should be a lock.
