2022 Bold Predictions Thread

Plate discipline, Robert and Vaughn.

(O = outside the zone; Z = inside the zone)

Robert: O-swing% 44.5%; O-contact 56.5%; Z-contact 86.4%; Swing% 61.5%; Contact% 73.6%.

Vaughn O-swing% 32.1%; O-contact 61.4%; Z-contact 90.0%; Swing% 45.3%; Contact% 78.0%

So Vaughn chases less, makes more contact outside and inside the zone, and swings less overall. If Vaughn pans out he'll probably be a moderate walk guy and high average guy. I think these two will be the best hitters on the team. Let's be outrageously bold and say Vaughn is the best hitter on the team by the end of the year.

More Robert / Vaughn comps

BABIP: .394 / .271

EV: 91.1 / 91.0

Barrel%: 12.5% / 10.9%

Jerry Reinsdorf has a Press Conference and says he was visited by the ghost of Charles Comiskey and the Ghosts of St. Patrick's Days Past, Present, and Future .

Signs Conforto, trades for Manea and Montas. Sox win the World Series. Bill Murray plays Reinsdorf in the movie version. And Tiny Tim Anderson, the World Series MVP, says God bless us, everyone !

Wasn’t Charles Comiskey so cheap that a bunch of his players threw the World Series?

My brother just asked me to post

Nicky Delmonico will come out of retirement and play RF come August ?

Daniel Palka would be even better.

Well, Andrew Miller just retired after a 16 year career (and blocking the White Sox from trading for Miguel Cabrera)...thankfully, we can't sign him.

Otoh, signing Miller would have allowed Crochet to start every week in Charlotte in order to see what we actually have in him.  Also, just noticed we lost Jace Fry to the Washington Nationals.

Should be the ghost of Bill Veeck then...even if he was a penny-pincher out of financial necessity, fans at least had fun and relished their underdog/blue collar status.

You of all people should know that Comiskey is to Reinsdorf as Jacob Marley was to Scrooge !

If you want I can explain why Bill Murray plays Reinsdorf too ;)

Yoan will be a top ~20 player in the AL again, yet 50% of game threads will have at least 1 page dedicated to debating whether he's good or if the Sox need to salary dump his contract

If Yoan’s power ever returns (98th percentile EV in 2019 before COVID) he’s probably a top 10 AL player.  Just got to hope those long hauler side effects go away at some point.

Another Wes Anderson film?

Notorious Cub fan Bill Murray played Frank Cross a selfish, obnoxious and cynical TV executive in the 1988 movie "Scrooged" , a modern adaptation of the Dicken's classic "A Christmas Carol."

Here's some Passan predictions/previews to start the season that are White Sox related.

Quote

Dylan Cease, 20-1 to lead the AL in strikeouts and 30-1 to win the AL Cy Young: Swings and misses on pitches in the strike zone provide one of the best indicators of just how nasty a pitcher's stuff is, so a specific number provided by ESPN stat guru Mike Bonzagni speaks to why it's easy to be bullish on Cease. In 2021, the top three pitchers in K-zone whiffs were: Max Scherzer, Dylan Cease, Gerrit Cole. Some pretty heady company for the 26-year-old right-hander.

Quote

Rafael Devers and Luis Robert, 25-1 for AL MVP: As long as Ohtani remains healthy, he's the clear MVP favorite. But Devers (25 years old) and Robert (24) are in their primes, surrounded by great players and present excellent value. The long shot with the best value: Toronto third baseman Matt Chapman at 150-1. His glove juices his WAR, and in that Blue Jays lineup, he could put up silly offensive numbers, too.

Quote

The Chicago White Sox will defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers to win their first World Series since 2005.

Keep it up, kid!

Think he starts walking a bit more in the second half. Not sure he catches Tim in avg, though. Guy is just a machine.

Andrew is starting to do what I think we both thought he would do in the 2nd half of the season last year on the way to a Rookie of the Year.  I'll take this 2nd year surge instead.

Mine:

  • Adolfo stays with the Sox, earns the RF spot, comes close to winning ROY in a repeat of Puigmania by hitting 25+ home runs and having highlight throws (his OBP will be lower than Puig's .391 and his strikeouts will be higher), but people love highlights.
  • Romy Gonzalez and Nick Madrigal have comparable WAR at the end of the season.
  • Anderson hits .400 going into the All-Star break.
  • Yermin is an All-Star starter, for another team.

So far, my Romy/Madrigal prediction is spot on.

Sox limp out of the gate behind subpar starting pitching driven by injuries and regression from Lynn.  Soxtalk goes bananas, everyone's worst fears about the roster are seemingly confirmed, and baseball writes off the team.

Sox catch fire in the second half behind huge performance from Eloy and a blistering breakout campaign from Vaughn, capture AL pennant.

Feeling pretty good about my trajectory!  Paragraph 2 arriving in T-minus 20 days.
