Moncada IL, Burger up; Burr IL, Foster up

He’s about to be paid like a superstar and he doesn’t seem to be aging well.  I was his biggest fan on this site until 2020.  I know he plays a ton of games, but it’s not helping anyone if he’s dinged up and trying to play through “pain”.

If he's putting up 4+ WAR seasons he's worth every penny he's owed.

Moncada has always seemed to a bit tight body wise. Some yoga could do the guy some good!

  • Sorry, but having Tanner Banks, Kyle Crick, Matt Foster, Dallas Keuchel, Jose Ruiz Bennett Sousa and Vince Velasquez all on the OD roster for a "World Series Contending" team gives me some pause.

Look, I am a huge Jake Burger fan, and really want to see him do great things, but some of yall need to quit day drinking.

  • And so begins Jake Burgers ROTY campaign @Quin

Sure, but his role on this team isn't high leverage. He's damn good at what his job is, and every team would be happy to have a guy like him in that role.

Oh I agree. He's perfect if you need somebody in the 5th or 6th inning. I just hope we'll never push him to pitch the 8th like he did a few times last year.

Yeah, this won't help the part of the fanbase who thinks that Moncada sucks.

I’m more concerned about it hurting when he swings.  He’s not exactly a player that heals from something and we never see or hear about it again.

This is not season ending, obviously.

But Yoan's ability to stay healthy and productive is quite depressing to me.

Especially with $41 million owed to him for 2023 and 2024.

The guy has never played less than 80% of the available games in a given year!!!!!

stop with this!

At least now I don't have to read about how Moncada's power is "gone" in every gamethread until 3 weeks from now.

I would have slotted Moncada 8th in my lineup based off last year's numbers.  There may not be much offensive falloff to Burger.  Indeed, Burger posted a 118+ OPS in limited action last year.  Moncada was 117 OPS+.

Burger had much higher slugging and higher OPS, much lower OBP.  Batting average the same.

Yea, Jake Burger gonna put up a 375 OBP in the 8 hole.

Nope but there’s no doubt in my mind he could put up a better slugging. I’ll be honest, I’d rather see Burger face LHP than Yoan.

Where it’s going to really hurt is facing tough RHP. The lineup now gets even more right-handed, and I don’t think Burger has a prayer against righty sliders.

What will be 'fun' is when Burger comes out with his hair on fire in April and then gets slotted down when Moncada comes out cool and starts as usual.

You've been less pessimistic and more realistic of late, but your disdain for Moncada will never stop being weird.

From my perspective it's nothing against Moncada but if Burger shows he's capable, trading Moncada for young pitching would be awesome.

I think Burger is going to rake, but there's no chance he can replace Moncada's defense and baserunning. The Sox have enough guys who just hit. Moncada's complete game is needed on this roster; also need the lefty bat. I'd trade Burger if he was good because he'd likely net more given his control and price.

Yoan Moncada has played 30 more games over the last 4 years than Tim Anderson. People only b**** about one of these guys being hurt all the time.

there is no dumber argument than Moncada is ‘injury prone’ because it’s just so provably not true. Very few guys are Jose Abreu.

The shitty part is that is how it goes with oblique strains.

I suffered an oblique strain during a seizure and while recovering I feared two things: Yawns were pure agony. Sneezes were a death sentence.

If he was legit, he would sneeze and not flinch. Anyone who thought Moncada could make it through the season without being injured was fooling themself. But you had to think he could make it to the season. The one thing about Yoan is I don't think he has a very high threshold of pain. If he cut his fingernail too short, he'd make it look like someone needed to roll an ambo.

It's not a direct replacement.  But with the quality lineup already, young pitching is a need.

If Burger can net a young pitcher than I would agree.

Just depends on what they could get for each one and how much payroll flexibility they will get by moving Moncadas contract.

Yeah, I'd rather the Sox stop acting like the Rays and moving anyone once they have to pay them. Already embarrassing enough they haven't given out a 9 figure deal, if they start trading their extended core players because they start getting expensive they would be taking that absurdity to another level.

Where do you guys come up with this shit?

Welp. See you in a month Moncada.

If it helps the pitching, I'm good with it. A near CBT payroll is not acting like the Rays. The Sox are spending 100 million more than the Rays.

There's always that 1% that you have to worry about.

Exactly. Burger needs to shine at MLB level to build his rep. Most clubs are going to have their doubts about him until he puts the injury issues to rest. But yes, as long as Moncada has the position locked Burger would have a better shot at starting (at 3rd) elsewhere.

I like Moncada the player.  It just seems to be every time he has a minor tweak on the field, he makes it look like best case scenerio, he might be back next year.
