That's the simple version. The other version is they had a tougher decision to make from 28 to 26 and have a better roster/roster composition than us. They were making decisions on Dom Smith, JD Davis types. We were making decisions on Danny Mendick. They also have Jeff McNeil who can play 2b and has produced. They have Eduardo Escobar who can play 2b/3b too. Simply put we should not be as dismissive of Cano as the board seems to be at this juncture. That's not to say there aren't a ton of strikes against Cano -- age, limited position mobility, roids, etc. But take the Harrison contract out of it, or the Leury love by TLR. There's very little doubt that Cano could easily produce at the level of our bottom part of roster. For a league minimum? That's something you consider because the risk/reward is palatable.

I'd give Cano an MILB deal and stick him in Charlotte for a couple weeks to see if he can still play passable 2B. It would cost the pro-rated minimum, so less than $500k if they called him up. Not a whole lot to lose. But the problem is he can't play 2B any longer. Hard to think he'd be a better option than Yolbert at this point. Edited May 9, 20223 yr by ChiSox59
May 9, 20223 yr dont disagree, but two months ago romy was yolbert right? we change our minds a lot as sox fans. they're all "meh' options at the end of the day. maybe one day we'll get a RF or 2B. would be nice haha.

Yes, I realize he's not from there, but the White Sox have perhaps the most dominant Latino clubhouse leadership/vibe (other than TA7, Lucas and Liam) of any team in baseball.

Unless the Sox are looking for a chemist to fix their hitting woes, Cano is not a solution. They could use a 2B. It isn't even clear if Cano can still play there. They need to aim a bit higher.

I was definitely trying to convey sarcasm there. Cano sucks and if we're trying any new solution at 2B, it should be Yolbert.

He may make a play here and there and even have a good game or two, but not something a contender is going to rely on. The notion reminds me of KW's moves of bringing in an end-of-career player to get a blaze of glory in their final days. A last hurrah! Not the same thing as the Cards bringing in Pujols; that's a different case altogether. There are only so many roster spots available, this is a ridiculous idea. Maybe the Pad's can make something of him, but the Sox have no business getting into the Cano brand. Edited May 12, 20223 yr by FoxForce2
May 12, 20223 yr Maybe they have a magic elixir that will turn back the clock. It's like Pujols without the return to glorious past angle.

May 12, 20223 yr Don't even know why the Padres need him. They have 1B 3B and 2B set. I guess to split ABs with Voit at DH...and added roster insurance since Voit gets injured pretty frequently.
