Diekman to Rays...

Featured Replies

The MLB Trade Rumors site is reporting the Rays are finalizing a Major League deal with Diekman.

Watch that organization figure out what's wrong with him and turn him around.

My first thoughts.

I'm thinking Allstar game for sure!

They definitely saw something.

Meh, whatever...it happens.  We've done it, too.

I mean he's 36 years old with a career ERA of 3.96, I'm not worried about it.

He’ll sign there, pitch exclusively in games they feel they won’t came back in instead of burning out other arms, then release him in a couple weeks.

Burdi to Sox?

Cash considerations.

Diekman and international $$$ for Gordon Beckham long term contract to announce?

Kind of like the Sox signing Colome (who, thusfar, has pitched a lot like Diekman).
Then there was Hector Noesi, whom the Sox tagged him for a pile or runs one afternoon.  The Rangers released him the next day, then the Sox signed him and he was actually decent decent for the rest of the season.

Cash handed the Sox the Sunday game saving arms.  Diekman will be the guy that they use without caring if his arm falls off.

LOL Rays gonna unlock his superpowers

Hope they’ve got their turd polishers oiled up.

Simply replacing Garrett Cleavinger, who just hurt his right ACL.

"Over those 13 outings, Diekman allowed 14 runs — 10 earned — on 11 hits while he walked 13 and struck out 11, facing a total of 58 hitters.

Although he is in the twilight of his career, Diekman still features a fastball in the upper 90’s that he mixes with a sweeper and a change-up. Thus far in 2023, his change-up usage has surged compared in year’s past and he hasn’t enjoyed much success while throwing the pitch; meanwhile, he is depending less on his sweeper and fastball."

Bet you start seeing more sweepers cutters and sinkers/two seam fastballs.

Diekman is one guy I'm not concerned about turning around. He's just not good.

Last lefty reliever the Sox completely turned around was Matt Thornton.  Damaso Marte before him.

I think this is a great case study to see if the Rays really do have magic pixie dust to scrap nobodies into a great bullpen. We know he sucked with us this year, kind of interested to see if the Rays can get something positive out of him.

Not an empirical study, just more fodder for our online arguments.

I wouldn't be shocked one bit if they turn him around.

It would be just another in a long slew of examples, of how inferior and dysfunctional the White sox organization is compared to the elite clubs.

Best pitching coaches Sox ever had were Ray Berres and Johnny Sain.

No one has really come close to those 2 especially Berres.

Good luck to him, the Sox are doing playing the Rays this year.

Wait no love for flava flav.....

Nardi contreras

I wonder if Diekman will win more games for the Rays in their uniform than he did in the Sox uni.

He’s left handed

He sucked before he got here and he sucked for us. He's 36 years old and is what he is. He's lefty and that's the only reason teams still give him a chance. The Rays will use him ultra low leverage situations and maybe a spot where Cleavinger would have pitched. Total meh move.

My old man texted me this same sentiment over the weekend, my gut reaction was to tell him he's crazy, but maybe he's on to something...

Man he sucked.. him and Kimbrel cursed this team.  Rays probably finish under .500 now or he turns into Cy young
