Kim Ng walks away from Marlins

But Kim Ng on the market just reinforces what a stupid hire Chris Getz was.

Ng, James Click and Chaim Bloom are all available. I'm sure there are plenty of other GMs that would be able to learn an org in under a year.

They probably don't retain Grifol because they don't have the Royals connection. Suddenly you can interview real managers.

She should IMMEDIATELY be hired as VP of OPs, but that makes too much sense. So, we'll just truck on forward with.........*checks notes*......Chris Getz.

In the Athletic article there is rumblings about her joining the White Sox.

“It remains to be seen if other organizations will make front office moves or if Ng would be considered for a president role, with some rumblings in the industry that perhaps the Chicago White Sox  —  with whom Ng served as an assistant director of baseball operations from 1990-96 — would be interested in her overseeing newly promoted general manager Chris Getz.”

— Tyler Kepner and Ken Rosenthal contributed to this report.

Does JR immediately go back on his word about having a singular decision maker? Cuz bringing Ng in makes Getz completely irrelevant and unncessary. Not that he wasn't already.

You just somehow made an argument that Reinsdorf is better than 16 MLB owners.

I don't think Jerry will go back on his word. I would not be surprised if Kim gets to be added to the payroll as some special consultant and hang out while opportunities present themselves.

A bit of a side note but still not totally convinced Ng would be some great hire but obviously is not in the white sox so that's positive.

That would be a good move but contrary to what JR himself said he wanted. And if something like that happened I wonder how Getz would react. He could be put in the same position as Hahn having limited authority.

Not really, since he has 19 more years under his belt than the next closest owners on the list (2000 purchases by Rogers and Nolan).

Would say Tampa ownership is the best on the list, because even though they won't spend money, and made a poor decision building a new stadium in St. Petersburg, he at least has the sense to hire competent staff which have an executable plan in the highest payroll division over the past few decades.

Jerry's baffling decision to exhume Tony La Russa to serve as manager gives me hope for Ng. I think he pines for any employee who leaves and has success elsewhere.

Would love to have Kim Ng back in Chicago with the White Sox. Bring Burger back as well.

Getz promotion  was an unforced error and regretful example of the Peter principle.

Maybe reverse the wheels, hire Kim as GM and find another job for Getz.

Mellody Hobson buys controlling interest, hires Kim Ng and once and for all they Thelma and Louise this b**** right off the cliff.

We’re not already off the cliff? Could have fooled me.

No chance of JR signing her.  Getz has hired his own team and was promised to be the decision maker.  This is all speculation.  No chance she comes to CWS.

Just insane to not even give yourself a chance at seeing what was on the market.

Why not just make Getz interim GM, so at least you could see who was gonna be available? You could always fall back on promoting him to permanent GM if you didn’t like what you saw. There’s precedent for it and you’d have a clear leader managing the offseason so you wouldn’t have a rudderless ship in the meantime. All upside, no downside. Then — get this — you could add someone from outside the org that had to “learn the whole system,” but you’d have Getz there anyway the whole time to help! You’d be literally NO worse than now in terms of “knowledge of the system.”

I cannot get over this. Reinsdorf firing his FO and then promoting their fifth in command without even considering interviewing anyone else might actually be the stupidest, least defensible business decision I’ve ever witnessed. Complete and total unforced error; he literally could had his cake and eaten it too simply by calling Getz and interim leader and delaying the decision until he had more info.

Absolute clown show. Unbelievable. I’m searching for hyperbole and cannot find it.

He also didn't know Kim Ng would become available at the time and you know how he loves his White Sox alumni

Well, except Francona Leyland Dombrowski, etc.

It would definitely be worse with Haber from all reports about his pretty outlandish "stats geek" style and personal low EQ approach.

Hostetler...probably worse.  Hard to say.

We still don't know the ultimate fate of either one of those guys.

Would honestly take Paddy running the whole show if you gave him a real budget to run things how he sees fit, which would never happen in a million years.

We'd rather spend millions on the Leury's and Emilio Bonifacio's of the world.   Or Friends & Family Plan.

Way to undercut Getz, lol...clown show.

Any other organization, he would be somewhere between 4th and 6th in the pecking order, at best.

Yeah I doubt it. She's not taking a backseat to Chris Getz; nor should she.

You left the part where Reinsdorf said that he had to do that because of the fans!

I suspect that the Athletic's source is this board.
