March 14, 20242 yr That mlb trade values site has the padres group of players valued at a total of 44.5 and had Cease at 42.4 FWIW. I was hoping for slightly more of a premium than that but seems like a fair deal for both sides.
March 14, 20242 yr 8 minutes ago, Bob Sacamano said: With it being the Padres, who have a shitty lineup, you think they would maybe give a little more and try to get Eloy too, no? Eloy would put them into the tax. Pretty sure they’re trying to avoid that.
March 14, 20242 yr Not adding Head or DeVrieze tips it slightly to the Padres' side. Then again...who knows, maybe Wilson shocks the world, but SD has tons of questions across the bullpen and wouldn't have included him if they liked his upside all that much. Reunited with Tim Hill.
March 14, 20242 yr I will be honest, I am surprised another team didn't beat this. I probably would have went into the season with Cease vs this.

March 14, 20242 yr How is one of the top pitchers in the game at a ridiculously low price with extra control not worth top prospects?

Track record in the last 30 years is terrible for the profile. I hope I'm wrong, but he seems like a better version of Jonathan Cannon. I mean we all celebrated dumping Mena over the fastball and he throws harder than Thorpe. I almost put Zavala ahead of him for upside. Kid had a 18.6% swinging strike rate. That's some elite swing and miss stuff.
March 14, 20242 yr 3 minutes ago, fathom said: Thorpe is headline with his stock rising. Yep. He is also ranked 56 on Baseball America, and 73 on Fangraphs. Both higher than where MLB Pipeline have him. He is a good get.

Wow… Let’s just be happy that poster isn’t making roster decisions or Cease would have been moved for half this value 4 months ago.

March 14, 20242 yr I would have held onto him, put the best D possible behind him every start (even if that means Brett Phillips makes the roster and plays RF every 5 games lol), and checked the offers in June/July. Edited March 14, 20242 yr by Bob Sacamano
March 14, 20242 yr I feel like San Diego is just going to flip him at the deadline for Cowser and Mayo

March 14, 20242 yr "That's a slightly painful trade, probably because I heard the (good) Cease news before I heard (the bad) who we gave up. Thorpe, Iriarte, Wilson, and Zavala. Thorpe is the tough one. BUT.......we get Cease for two years, and our front four will match up with anyone. The Padres are a better team in 2024 than they were an hour ago." go to gaslampball.com for Padres' fan reactions
March 14, 20242 yr Replace Snelling with Iriarte and this deal feels much more like what we were expecting. Ultimately takes two tango. Pretty obvious to me Getz lowered his ask this week.
